Here is a lists of holiday philosophical questions I was hoping some of you Christians and more importantly non-Christians to answer.

I add this to the religion forum because, as we should know, the original function for Christmas was to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, regardless if Jesus truly was born on that day. This now no longer is the case. I have atheist friends and even Hindu friends who are celebrating Christmas nowadays. The questions I ask are:

1) Why are more people outside of Christianity celebrating Christmas?

2) Does this show a subtle domination of Christian philosophy (if not Christian religion) in American culture?

3) If it is merely a commercial holiday, how were non-Christians initially enticed to embrace it? Did corporations do this, and if so, how?

My other question involves the role of Santa Claus in today's world. After finding out Santa was not real in my own childhood, I was devastated. At that age you might as well have told me that Santa was dead. It was then my position to never advocate Santa Claus to small children (I wouldn't flat out say he did not exist, I just never made up the lies that supported he did exist). However, in recent years my position has been changed because of some well made arguments. I wonder what your thoughts are on:

1) Should the fiction of Santa Claus be perpetuated or should we start by telling our children that Santa Claus is just a symbol?

2) Is it equitable that the myth of Santa Claus is being held with concrete and steadfast devotion, while more and more often the trend of modern culture is to pass off the stories of all religions as mere parables?

3) Does teaching the existence Santa Claus benefit children in any way?

4) What is the role that Santa Claus plays to modern American society? What is the role Santa Claus should play?
