Lethargy was as foreign as it was unpleasant to the masked sentinel, but today it had found her in full force. A heavy sigh heaved through her body, seeping out through the cracks in her mask, making it rattle ominously. She shifted her grip on the branch-fierce talons digging into the soft wood, fitting perfectly into well worn grooves from repeated use.

The tree was almost done. That meant she'd be moving soon. With a quick glance around to be certain no one was near to see, she Willed her mask up and away from her face, revealing both of her eyes to peer at the remaining blank space. It already had the gentlest suggestions of the shape of a face in the natural grain of the wood. She'd noticed it the day she'd moved in, and had been saving it...something special should go there, she'd determined. Alas, nothing and no one had come to mind...

Wondering if a little forced work could drive her to inspiration, she hefted a nearby rock, sharp and dusty from use, and began to scrape out the rough likeness of a beak in the wood. Hmmm...

Doom and gloom...

As much as the area was rather depressing in atmosphere, the pale form that glided ever so silently was content to be here. The trees were tightly pressed, despite being away from Deep Woods, and it was always a favorite haunt of his. Unfortunately, due to the storm, keeping the chirops straight, and visiting Mallow, the snowy male had not been able to come out to this area for some time. It wasn't the best of territories and was a little ways away from Deep Woods, so it was no surprise that some spry youth had yet to claim it.

What a surprise it would be to find a sentinel had found it inviting.

Moth flew silently before him, guiding him as she had always done so faithfully. He followed her with equal silence and felt a wave of relief wash over him as the trees grew closer together and the bright light of the moon faded and was replaced with the darkness of the trees.

"Ah, s'good to be back!" He hooted aloud to himself as he perched on a wide limb at the edge of the area that he used to frequent so often, completely oblivious to the fact that a certain quirky crafter had taken to staying here.

She really wasn't feeling it. A shame too. At least the beak had come well. She sighed and let the rock drift gently down to rest in a natural groove of the branch. No sense working more when she'd just be making herself do it. The face would be ruined, and it had to be just right. Maybe she could work on some masks...oh, wait, she'd just finished the lat one she'd been asked for, and it'd been taken the day before. Well she could always hunt up some dinner, or go gathering...

Thankfully a diversion soon presented itself in the form of a distant hoot. "Visitor?" She wondered aloud, her own mask slipping back into place as she leapt up from her perch. She never paid mind to tresspassers. The lands she took for her own were rarely sought after, and it was little to no problem. Usually anyone wrongly in her area was simply lost.

And alerting them they were in her place would ruin the fun.

With a flap she was away, dark form melding into the gloomy trees she flew past. Visitors, visitors...They weren't far off too. Just a tree or two away. She lit nearby, just across from the easily spotted fellow who'd come by. "Back?" She called, the voice strangely muted because of the mask.

He heard the voice before he spotted the sentinel, which was usually how it was. Only this time he didn't expect to find any sentinel here and the oddly muted voice startled him to the point that he nearly took a spill right out of the tree.

The vibrantly white sentinel jerked back and teetered precariously on his perch for a few rather frightful seconds, but quickly righted himself with beats of his large wings. His pale talons latched tightly to the bark beneath his paws and his husky frame settled, albeit was still fluffed up and his eartufts were low against his skull. His pale pink eyes were wide with alarm as he quickly looked to find the Shadow type that was before him. Was that a mask over her face? That was pretty weird. He was far from a position to judge, however.

"Y-yes, back. I u-u-used to come here often, but there wasn't anyone living here, then. S'n-not exactly the most desirable, you see." He stammered his words in his low, soft voice, but did his best to regain at least a little bit of composure.

Ename couldn't contain the cackle of delight when the poor fellow heard her, nearly flying off the branch and out of his feathers. Ahh, she did know how to make an entrance, didn't she?

He was a mist, or so she guessed, given that his stark white feathers stuck out like a sore thumb amidst the dark trees and gloom. Of course, even more interesting were his eyes. Not gold, or any normal color, but pink. A mystic's trick perhaps? Interesting nonetheless.

"Aaah, I see. You must have been gone long. I've been here a healthy few moons. And I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. This land is quite fine, quite fine indeed! Yes, quite, quite fine," She chattered, old voice a bit hoarse and scratchy. It was safe to say that most of the talking she'd done of late was in her mind and to herself.

"Oh yes, it has been many moons! Not since the before the Thunderbird's last most noticable visit, you see." The stammer in his voice faded away as he replied to the Shadow's chatter. He had intruded, but she didn't seem angry, really. The way she was talking was certainly a little different.

He merely had to assume that she, like he, did not get very many visitors. The chirops made fine chatting companions, but perhaps she wasn't quite as lucky as he to have their presence.

"I've always found it pleasant, but others don't seem to think the same. I'm glad to see that it has found a proper owner who enjoys her stay here." He couldn't help but to have a small glimmer of happiness in his voice. "I'm afraid I haven't exactly had much time to care for and protect it."
