"Tilki is just responding rather badly to the cleanser I put on her hands, the pain is brief and she will be fine," said Kristin.

She took the berries from Selina and rinsed them quickly before handing out breakfast. There was eggs, bacon, berries and pieces of bread on each plate.

"We'll pack up right after breakfast, and then we must head off..."

Ombra almost fainted dead away when he took her arm and began to lead her towards the medical tent. As she had feared more than several people had turned their attention to their leader walking arm in arm with a lowly laundress. The looks were curious from the males and a mix of envy and judgement from the women. Her face continued to glow and she couldn't bring herself to meet Lrak's when he asked her about the weather in so casual a tone. He was simply too kind and couldn't possibly know what his words and actions were doing to her internally. Her voice when she found it was faint, "Yes sir. We should be able to cover a lot of ground." Ombra worked tirelessly and would never dream of complaining about the weather when it came time to move camp, and secretly felt many of the soldiers and followers were too opinionated by half.

Tilki felt that Kristin was sorely understating the situation though she was too busy wrinkling her nose, trying to lessen the burning sensation to voice her opinion on the matter. As the silver tongued mage handed out the breakfast, Tilki eyed it with far more suspicion than previously though she did eventually take a tentative nibble on the berries that Selina had brought. The girl seemed harmless enough and didn't seem the type to want to burn her. Delicious! Eyes lighting up in obvious pleasure she began popping them into her mouth with abandon, then moved onto the rest of the tasty meal. It went a long way to mending her relationship with Kristin - perhaps the mage didn't have a sense of smell? "That was excellent my friends - thank you so kindly for the nurishment. And Kristin, I forgive you for almost incinerating my nose - I wasn't aware of your 'condition'. The look she gave the mage was one of sympathetic understading.

Lrak let out a laugh at the woman's simple answer. It was true it was simple question, but their task was much more then that. Moving 5 thousand people across a continet was never an easy task. Harder still was keepin them secret. Lrak didn't need or want the artrocsy knowing his movements. One attack would wipe him out and cause him to start over. It had happened once arleady in Sourthern Ignis, but here in the North, the nobility was much more tyranical and the peopel more receptive to his story.

"My dear, how long have you lived her in the North," Lrak asked. Poor Dlin couldn't stay mad at him if he atleast learned of more town that would bring in more arms.

Selina smiled as she sat down, happy that Kristin haddn't mention this sanitizer stuff to her. She didn't want to end up making a funny face like Tilki's afer all. The first half of her bancon was gone before a person could blink, but then she remebered she didn't have to eat so fast. She forced herself to go at a slower pace, but still manged to finish her food quickly.

"Where are we going, Kristin? Is Tilki comeing with us," the little girl asked.

Ombra wanted to wince at Lrak's laugh. She didn't find anything humerous in her answer so she could only imagine he found her response lacking in some comical way. She found herself torn once more between pleasure and dismay when he continued their conversation, further asking into her life. Large as the camp was, they had almost arrived to the medical area and she quickened her step a bit.

"All of my life Sir. My mother cared not for Ignis and so lived as far from its forests as possible." It was an understatement for her to say her mother simply cared little for the province. She loathed it to the point of distraction and would at times rave about the debautched Royalty. When they reached the medical tent she breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly tried to take the remaining bandages from her leader.

Tilki perked up at Selina's questions and stopped stretching to move beside the young girl. If she had been in fox form she would have been all but curled around her. Giving Kristin her very best kitten eyes, she silently implored the mage to allow her to join in their journey. After a moment she gently elbowed Selina in the am and motioned her head in Kristin's direction, indicating that she too should offer up a look of her own. It couldn't hurt.

"It saddends me to know a flower as bueatiful as you grew up in a bitter home," Lrak said as he easily relequished the bandages, "But I must ask, do you know of any villiges on the road to Ignis that would be willing to listen to our cause?" He took a sidelong glance out at the crowd. Most of the soldiers had gone on thier way, but others that worked with Ombra still watched. Dlin was march over, quite red in the face, but that was of little concern to him. He wanted to keep this girl under his wing, she could be a much need source of information.

An unknowing spy, the man smiled sweetly at the thought.

Selina was so suprised by Tilki that she quickly inhaled. She watched as the older girl seemed to beg at Krisitin. Even in the sewers, where begging was one of the best ways to get food, Selina couldn't agree with the act. It seemsed like such an unsavory way of getting things, but companions, good companions, where much harder to come by then food, and Tilki hadn't proven not to be good. She had even made her laugh. So, when Tilki nudged her, Selina turned her best big eyed look at Kristen, blinking inocently at the older girl.

Kristin handed Tilki some of the leftover food she had cooked, "Yes, Tilki may come with us To Aquillo... I do not currently see the harm in it."

Kristin started to pack up the belongings, swiftly using her belt to do so. The camp fire slowly started to burn out until she pushed its own ashes to smother the fire.

"The quickest way to Aquillo..." she tapered off, suddenly remembering her mother and the fight they had.

Selina smiled up at Tilki. She was glad to have another comapnion and Tilki seemed like she would be more fun then the down to buisness Kristen. She watched the young woman make the blankets and things disapear with her belt. Selina wished she could help but the Aquillian hadn't taught her how to use the belt slung over her shoulder just yet. Without much thought, the once sewer dwealer snatched a small peice of the extra food given to Tilki before she heard Kristen trail off.

"If you dont' want to go to Aquilo, we could go someplace else,like Humus," Selina said. It was out of her mouth before she had even realized it and she covered it in suprise. Had the other her....Had Shadow said that just now?

Kristin caught her breathe when she heard the slight difference of tone in Selina's voice. Perhaps she was just imagining it. Kristin wanted to head to Aquilo at first, but now.. She found herself dreading their re-union... or lack there-of.

At the same time, she had been warned not to trust Selina's decision. What to do...

"Well... Humus would be closer..."

Ombra Actually found herself choking at his compliment and feared she would expire on the very spot. After managing not to swallow her tongue it still took her several moments to answer his questions. Gah! He must surely think her slow in the head! ”Yes Sir. There are many who are discontent with the status quo and would take to the truth of your message. You must proceed cautiously though, for there are those who would relay your purpose back to those who are best left in the dark for now.” It was the most she had said to him at one time since first meeting him in his tent. Gods, it was the most she had said to one person since joining with the camp.

She was clever and though she did not possess a malicious heart, Ombra’s mother had groomed her to be able to survive by cultivating her wits. She just found it hard to locate them when Lrak was present. She had not seen her place of birth as her mother had fled Ignis while she was still a babe though the woman had talked about it with malic incessantly. It was uncomfortable but she had grown used to her mother’s ravings and it was all she had ever known. And those ravings had prepared her to know the weaknesses of her unseen homeland though she didn’t think of it as such. She was simply pleased to be able to give Lrak the information he asked of her.

Tilki Tilki watched the conversation between the two while munching on the leftovers. Ah Kristin was a fabulous cook! It really was too bad about her nose. It mattered not to her where they travelled for either way her wanderlust would be satisfied. When she finished she began to raise her hand to lick her fingers clean and with a sidelong glace at the mage thought better of it. She didn’t want to be subjected to any more of her vicious ‘sanitizer’. She settled for simply wiping them on the grass and stretching out her body to ease her muscles. ”Wherever you lead my new friends I will follow.” She began to eye them speculatively and toyed with the idea of changing into a fox so that she might beg to be carried. She was at times filled with boundless energy and others…well….lazy. Deciding that perhaps she should get to know them a bit better first, Tilki convinced herself to wait.

"Lrak, you pombus a**" Dlin yelled at the edge of the crowd. A soft chuckle escaped Lrak as he glanced at his red faced advisor. The man stood a good distance away, muttering curses under his breath. He was glad atleast he he would get a favorable resepction in the Far Northern villiages of Ignis.

"It would seem we both have to get back to work now. It was a plearsure speaking with you again Ombra, and I'm sorry if this should cause you any trouble," Lrak said. He gave the girl his most charming smile and a short bow before parting from her company. He would have to take his time before calling on her again. He didnt' need rumors of social visits floating around the camp and he didn't need her being watched.

"YOU need to stop doing this. One of these days, those poor girls are going to get wise to you're charms," Dlin said as he fell into step beside his Commander. Lrak just let out a laugh.

"It's the best way to practice politics, my dear friend," Lrak said as the soldiers made way for their leader.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unbeknownst to Selina, a black diagnal line crossed the iries of each of her red eyes. The young girl still couldn't believe she had spoken. She didnt' want to question the older girl and going anywhere was fine for her. Not only that, but why Humus? Of all the places to pick, why that one?
We have to go to Humus, Shadow said in the girl's mind.
Why? The young girl asked herself. She could sense the other girl's frustration.
Just look at her. She doesn't want to go to Aquilo. Why make her, Selina? Shadow asked in return. Selina looked over at Kristen and saw what Shadow ment. Her brow was furrowed. She didnt' seem to be focused on putting the camp up anymore and while she didn't redily smile, her lips seemed to curve downward more then usuall. The worst part was that deep down, Selina wanted to go towards those dark cloads, which she gathered were over Humus. Shadow seemed to smile in her minds eye at Tilki's comment on the situation.
Even the newcomer has no complaints, Shadow smiled triamphant.
"Tilki.....you said you were from Sero...right? Have you even been to anywhere else?" the dark haired girl asked her new companion.
Ombra could only not dumbly as he make his courtly exit with his red faced assistant. She was familiar with Dlin as every other person in the camp was. It was a well known fact that Lrak would slip the demanding subordinate at every chance. As they made their exit she watched after as Lrak seemed only too pleased with himself and Dlin continued to berate him. Tries as he might to bluster it was clear the other man believed in their leader’s cause and was loyal to its ends. Shaking her head, Ombra turned into the medical tent and came face to face with the lead male. It seemed that Lrak’s presence had in fact saved her from a scolding as the cleric simply took the rags from her with little more than a shake of his head. When he indicated the he had no further use of her she hustled off back to the cooking area to help prepare the evening’s meal.
Tilki looked up from her sprawled position to regard Selina. It had taken the foxling no time at all to make herself comfortable in the grass while she let the decision making up to her comrades. Shaking her head in the negative she answered, ”No, I’ve never left its borders before. The wanderlust has arrived though and I have answered her call. Adventure and new experiences await me.” Here she gave a thoughtful tilt of her head. ”Hopefully tasty adventures.”
Thinking this decision over a bit more, Kristin finally made up her mind. "No... Humus must be too dangerous, and we need more information. There must be another way to fight these... shadow monsters. Wind will have the answer. We can talk to her in length at Aquillo..."
Kristins eyes casted over. As long as she didn't run into her mother, everything would be fine.
"Lets get walking to the ship. It'll only be a day's course."
((Sorry! Work kind of ran away with my time and energy. I'm skipping a few days ahead when the group arrives at Aquilo.))
Selina stared up at the metal tower in awe. She had never seen anything so tall and to think anything could rise up above the seemingly dead volcanic rock was even more amazing to the little sewer rat. Though she was looking less and less like one. The day on the ship had proven a good one for the little girl. Through some mechanism, that Kristin was happy to describe at length in technical jargon the girl had no hope of understanding, the boat managed to float above the water and even move across the ground.
"Kristin, did you grow up here?" the little girl asked.
