Delta Herla are a strange bunch. Since they live closer to the Swamplands and the Power Plant than most, they are more prone to mutations. Many of the Herla who live in this lush, marshy area are almost amphibious. Many Herla tell their children to avoid this place because of the bogs, hidden sinkholes and strange carnivorous reptiles that live there. If you are familiar with Delta life, however, it can be a fun and wonderful place to explore.

User Image..... Xiphi silently paced along the damp earth, her ears and nose ever alert. She was feeling vulnerable, maybe because she decided to leave her skull mask behind during her travels. Or, perhaps, there was a deeper reason to be fearful. Her dull vision and the thickening fog didn't boost her confidence as she roamed the Delta.

When a deep body of water appeared over the horizon, Xiphi knew she was wandering into someone else's territory. Hopefully no one's home, she thought to herself, reluctant to turn around. If she was lucky, there would be an empty thicket to rest in for the night.

The gray doe lowered her head, quietly yawning. What made her decide to take on such a tedious journey, anyway? It was a spur of the moment decision, she reminded herself. She expected this to be more exciting. Wild bear chases, discovering new and dangerous creatures... or even being swept off her hooves by a brave young buck. Xiphi rolled her eyes. No, not that kind of adventure.

The doe snapped out of her daydream when she realized she had arrived at the swampy lake. After a short inspection, she concluded that the area was uninhabited... at least for the moment. Trotting along the minimal vegetation, she searched for suitable bedding, when a glint caught her eye. A gap beneath a oddly placed boulder contained a collection of glittering treasures. Excitement flurried through Xiphi as she pawed at the mud, making the hole a little bigger. She wriggled her head into the cove, examining the miscellaneous objects with joy. This is what she came here for. Surely the Herla who lived here wouldn't mind if she borrowed their fortune. She began to greedily gather select items, becoming completely absorbed in the thievery.

Heret yelped out in surprise and then cursed loudly as he tripped and stumbled into a muddy puddle. Another muddy puddle. Already, the buck's golden coat was streaked and spotted with the thick, dark, sticky mud. The blind herla grumbled and with a groan of frustration, struggled up, out of the mud, and back onto solid land.

This, was one of the many things he hated about being blind. He was lost. So lost, he couldn't even begin to try and figure out where he was. It had all started out with a simple wander through the woods and it had turned into a four hour long trek to where ever he was now. For all he knew, he could be on the otherside of the kingdom or only a little ways from his home.

Being blind sucked.

That was when, as he walked forward a little bit farther and fell into a pond of mirky water up to his shoulders. "DAMNIT ALL!" He yelled loudly as he struggled back toward the shore, his ears flicked back and fat against his head in his distress.

User ImageTaz jumped carefully through the Delta, taking great care to avoid the water. Min and Max clung to her rig fearfully; they didn't like the Delta anymore than she did. It was too wet and too hot here. She couldn't wait to go north. She was only here for the treasure. No stones formed here naturally, but the delta was tough enough to claim more than it's share of bounty. And today she had found a good piece. It wasn't Tanzinite (her favorite), but a beautiful band of gold, slightly dented sure, but it was big. Swamp Lizards had probably gotten it's previous owner.

Reaching a part of the swamp with surer footing, she trotted back to where she had put the rest of her findings. And stopped dead in her tracks. There was a herla she didn't recognise pawing through her treasure. Not for long. Nearly spitting fire she charged forward with a great "GET OUT OF MY TREA-" Wait. Who was that herla? Without the mask, Taz nearly didn't recognise her. Could it be... "Xiphi?"

Suddenly anouther herla splashed her. Xiphi and Heret? Dammit, was her hunting ground a party zone? No longer quite as mad, she called to the struggling herla. "Hey Heret! Get out of the lake!"

The shout from Taz caused Xiphi to jump. She swung her head up to face the new arrival. The purple doe looked vaguely familiar... but it didn't matter. She was probably there to steal her stolen treasure. Xiphi couldn't let that happen. She stood motionless, thoughts racing as she came up with multiple escape routes and battle tactics. Escape would be simple, the opponent was obviously not well equipped to the Delta terrain. Battle... well, that huge horn is rather intimidating. But first, she had to try and talk her way out. That would be tough, considering her mask would no longer hide her emotions. Xiphi cursed in her mind, why did she leave it behind?

Xiphi breathed a soft sigh of relief as the blind, stumbling buck stole Taz's attention. While Taz's back was turned, the gray doe slyly and silently pressed down on one of the treasures, and it sunk deep into the mud below. If all else failed, she could at least end up with that gem.

Heret grumbled to himself, struggling toward the shore. "If I could get out, do you think I'd still be in?!" He yelled back towards Taz before the buck took a mistep and crashed back into the water. The delta lands could be tricky for the seeing and unfortunatly, they were moving just too difficult fo Heret to navigate on his own. The blind herla thrashed as he tried again to make it on to shore, but it didn't really help much.

Damnit. Balin was going to die laughing when he heard.

Rather than try to pull himself out of the water again, Heret instead stopped and listened to the other two. "So... Taz, Xiphi, one of you mind helping me out? I'm afraid I'm stuck." This was embarassing. Oh well, thus was the life he was stuck with.

Taz was torn. She didn't really know either herla very well. Should she rescue Heret or her treasure? She had risked her hide for some of those gems. But Ivy would probably screech at her if something happened to Heret. And she could always find more treasure, where as if Heret was eaten by the crocodiles she knew nested in the area she couldn't replace him. Bother.

"Two steps back from the gold, please!" Glaring at Xiphi she went to pull Heret out of the lake. Min and Max leapt off her, they didn't want any part of that. Scurrying up to Xiphi, they chattered at her for bein so close to their treasure. "I'm coming, Heret. What are you doing walking around the Delta, anyway?" she asked as she pulled him out. He was a mess from the water, and now she was muddy too. More fun.

Xiphi rolled her eyes at Taz's command, and found the chattering mions a nuisance. "Shoo," She whispered, flicking a hoof at them.
She reached for a sack of treasures, ignoring the Mion's constant jabber. She stepped back cautiously, and waited for Taz.
For the moment, she was distracted with assisting the hopeless buck.
Xiphi prepared herself for Taz's raging return.

"I didn't get here intentionally. I got lost. Really, really lost." Heret admitted as he gave himself a light shake to get rid of some of the filthy swamp water all over him. "Thank you for helping me." The buck added with a warm smile before flicking an ear toward the bushes just moments before Balin, his older brother, jumped out of them, looking very worried.

Balin rushed over to Heret, not even smiling at the fact that the other was covered, almost from head to toe, in mud and other filth. "There you are! Where have you been, Heret?! I've been looking everywhere and I-" Balin stopped midsentence and glanced around to the two females near them. "....Well, at least you have some nice company."

"Yes." she answered Heret with a small nod before seeing Balin jump out of the bushes. Good, someone to take care of Heret while she... Turning back to Xiphi more or less calmly she started "Now I d-" before seeing the sack Xiphi was nudging. A sack. A sack!? How dare her finding be carried in a sack! They would scratch! And bang together and break! Her eyes practically changed color, like the gem of her namesake, to a bloodthirsty red and Tazmin almost charged at Xiphi right there.

It was only with great effort that she stopped herself. If she chased, then Xiphi would run. And that wouldn't solve anything. Unfortunately. So she tried a different tactic. "Xiphi, why thank you for finding my treasure!" she started with as much enthusiasm as she could get between her gritted teeth. "I would be happy to give you some of it as a reward for returning my meager findings to me."

Xiphi glanced toward Balin as he leaped out of nowhere. His appearance left her startled, but he didn't seem to be a threat for now. Xiphi returned her attention to Tazmin. How peculiar. She thought as the eyes of her opponent seemed to turn a raging red.
The gray doe let out a snorting chuckle as Tazmin offered a reward for the gems. "Mmmh.. nah. You know what they say... Finders keepers?" She smirked. Mud slipped off her hoof as she lifted it away. Her stance let everyone know she was ready to dart. "But, how about a race?"
