Ouranos' sheepish smile returned as he realised how far he'd wandered whilst thinking. "Ah er... oh" he harrumphed, a little flustered. "I guess I should try not to be so distracted... heh".

'Came into her care' - not hers, then? But she was looking after them? It warmed his heart to see, to be truthful. Things were hard for pups out in the world on their own - especially those who couldn't hunt even the smallest creatures by themselves. He wondered what their circumstances had been but didn't want to ask in their earshot in case it upset them.

His eyes met Evadne's and evinced warmth in return at her honest appraisal - Ouranos positively melted in the presence of young ones. He was taken aback by Indeygo, though, for a second. It had been so long since anyone had mentioned his ear and other things had distracted him... he had almost forgotten about it.

In his youth, it had been something he was self-conscious about but now... who cared? He smiled and turned to Indeygo. "Yes, it is... it's what can happen if you don't take care to listen to your teacher!" he winked over the pups head, towards Cala. It was true, sort of.

"Indeygo," she chided gently, but Ouranos seemed to take the pup's comment in good humor and Calandra let the matter drop. Pups were naturally curious, and Oura seemed to understand that. She returned his wink with a smile and ducked her head briefly.

Realizing that Indeygo's fur looked even worse than his sister's, Cali sighed and stepped back to expose the little pup, sitting back on her haunches and leaning her head down to start picking leaves from his fur with her teeth. Pups were always a handful when they were old enough to move and talk, and hers seemed intent on being as energetic as possible. They were good children overall, though, and as she continued her work on Indeygo's coat, Calandra kept an eye on Evadne. There wasn't much trouble she could get into with two adults near-by, but Cali was hoping that manners would prevent the trouble she was sure Eva's mouth could run if the girl didn't think before she spoke.

"Is everything all right in the Glen?" Calandra couldn't think of what else could be distracting Oura, unless it was pack-related. He probably couldn't discuss pack business, but she could at least glean if she could help from his answer or if he needed a willing ear.

"What?" Indy question, now somewhat worried that his comment had offended the strange wolf "I just thought it was neat" he whispered to Cali as she stepped back to expose him, the purple colored pup for for a moment looking at Ouranos and then attempted to skitter off back behind Cali but in his haste tripped over his own paws and went sprawling - which meant he had little choice but to submit to Cali's ministrations.

Huffing sightly he looked for his sister and tried to squirm away to join her when Cali's attention turned back to the buff colored wolf.

"Things are fine" he answered, thoughtfully. "Everything's quiet, everyone is well..." but there was nothing for him to do. No young to look after and the next generation had grown up and were faster, stronger - had better eyes for scouting, patrolling and hunting.

The big wolf just didn't feel himself without young around - but that had changed when he bumped into a familiar female with her charges. He smiled.

"I guess I'm just getting old and my mind is wandering" he said, only half-jokingly. "Weren't you supposed to be hunting?" his gaze took in the pups as well as Cali "I don't see any tasty rabbits here!" he added, with mock seriousness.

"We can't hunt rabbits yet!" Eva exclaimed. "We're not big enough! We're doing squirrels today, and Cali says if we do good at that the next few times we can try rabbits after that. Right, Cali?"

Eva turned her head to look back at Calandra hopefully. She was sure she would do well, sure of it, and then they could hunt lots of things whenever they wanted. The hunting was fun and Eva fancied that she would be rather good at it once Calandra taught her the tricks of it, so to speak. She moved her eyes to her squirming brother after a few moments and scrunched her face in a frown at him, sticking out her tongue.

"Maybe, if Ouranos would agree to come with us, we can try rabbits now," Calandra suggested, turning her eyes back to Indeygo long enough to yank one more leaf from his fur before she let him roll out of her hold. That done, she looked back to Eva, even though the girl was no longer looking at her. The blue pup's focus had gone to her brother possibly even before he'd been coming her way. "Ouranos teaches the young of his pack how to hunt, so I'm sure he could think of a way for all four of us to hunt small prey if you asked nicely."

"Would you?" She mouthed to Oura, eyes echoing the question. She didn't want to push him into it, and the soundless query kept her pups from noticing the adults have a conversation above their heads.

Indey, at long last freed from his mothers attentions made a beeline for his sister with a half-hearted growl at the faces she was making at him. He considered attempting to pounce at her - but that never seemed to work out quite the way he expected it too and with the talk of hunting it was probably best to mostly behave if he wanted the adults to actually agree to hunting the larger prey. "Rabbits will be waaaay more exciting then squirrels" He whispered to Eva while casting the adults a hopeful look.

"Not big enough for rabbits?" he gasped in faux surprise, his eyes meeting Cali's as he suppressed a grin. "Well, I think I might be able to remember a lesson or two, I suppose" he said, looking upwards, as if pondering a weighty idea. "Yes, yes I think I remember how to go about hunting rabbits!" his smile, let loose, conveyed his pleasure and willingness. It wasn't something he could ever be forced to do, he thought, he enjoyed it too much. It really had been too long since he'd had little ones around - to pamper and care for and help grow.

He crouched down, looking eye-to-eye with the pups. "Do you think you can remember any rabbit holes nearby?" he asked them, trying to engage them in both hunting and the idea they would have to, one day, track their food.

Yes, it was good to have little ones to teach. He smiled at Calli as his lesson began, feeling something of the weight of his past, just a little, starting to lift from him.
