Here's a thread for the little things you've discovered through playing the game or just your obsessive fangasming >w>

Warning! These will likely contain spoilers!

~Zidane was born in 1783, making him born in the year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese Zodiac. Even more humorous, Kuja was born in the year of the Monkey xd

~While looking for the potions to "cure" Regent Cid of his Oglompism, asking a particular man in Lindblum about the potions will make him shout, "Dammit Jim! I'm a doctor, not a miracle-worker! Ask somebody else." An obvious jab at the famous catchphrase of Dr. McCoy from Star Trek.

~Amarant's Japanese name was Salamander, but the English and International ports of the game do not allow enough spaces for him to be named that.

~Zidane's name was originally intended to be "Gitan", the French word for Gypsy. However his Japanese name was spelt "ジタン" ("Jitan"), and was incorrectly translated to "Zidane" likely due to the Zi and Ji sounds being phonetically close to each other. Thus his name is correctly pronounced "Zhee-dahn" in English. wink

~Kuja's name is rumored to be derived from the Hindu name for Mars (the red planet visibly similar to how Terra is seen from Gaia), or, more humorously, a derivative of "Kujaku" (Japanese for Peacock).

In the weapon shop of Alexadria if you talk to the "Buster" swords on the far left (I think) Zidane will say "I remember guy with spikey hair who carried something like that..." Which is Cloud (Maybe Zack) from FF7, Showing that Zidane knows Cloud. (Then again who doesn't?) Of course this was just purely a joke by Square to have fans scratch their heads to Zidanes statement, but its been recently announced that Most FF are all apart of a timeline but the timeline is spaced between hundreds of years and different planets/worlds/universe/etc.

e.g. Square once told fans that FF7 is 500 years AFTER the events of FF10 but in a different universe...weird right?Im not sure if its REALLY true but thats what i heard. Also one of the Tetra Master cards, Masamune (Im not sure how to spell it) Is actually Sephiroth's sword

There are a lot of repeated events between Final Fantasies, mostly as a nod to different games for the fans.

I believe there is a phonograph in the Black Mage village that once certain requirements are met, it will play music from Final Fantasy III.

(As an added note, "Cloud" also has a shop in Esther in FFVIII)

It is kind of amusing that you've always got little nods to the other games in almost all of them. i love old game easter eggs. Its really something that Enix screwed up on after they took over. Among other things... Ugh!

i find it funny that in vivi's house scratched on a wall is his height, and wrote next to it is - "still to small to eat" - wrote by his "loving" grandpa xD

It is kind of amusing that you've always got little nods to the other games in almost all of them. i love old game easter eggs. Its really something that Enix screwed up on after they took over. Among other things... Ugh!

Speaking of nods to others, as Zidane walks through town, he always seems to turn his head and the young women around him as he walks by xd

And what's up with Kuja's choice of real estate? I mean, I can understand the whole evil villain's fortress thing but... MONSTERS. IN HIS BEDROOM.
HIS PALACE IS HEATED BY LAVA PITS.
Death wish? Or giving other villains a run for their money?

Mildly amused by the fact that you have to fight the four Guardians of the Elements. Patiently waiting for Prince of Terra to touch down at the Earth Shrine so I can start blasting Hyadain's "Four Fiends of the Elements" for hilarious reasons.
