Saphen

FLAT! thought the bard in his mind as his opponent began to tear through his beloved plant. The arrow landing harmlessly past him as he watched in growing annoyance.

No no no! this music is too flat...too bland! it was no surprise to the musician that his opponent was breaking apart his would be Elegy to the swordsman.

THATS IT! the idea was so simple!

Make this note Sharp

Reyin had lifted himself out of a lot of dirt before performing his little acrobatic feat. This meant that he was nearly level with the bard and it was right when the swordsman landed on his feet that the musician decided to strike.

TIME FOR YOUR CADENCE!
(song starts at 1.44)

The first flurry of notes occurred as Reyin's body was in the air. Saphen had used his hidden talent...and he hoped it was worth it. The bard had switched modes with out the use of a charge and at the very moment when Reyin's feet touched ground...the very moment Saphen brandished his blade enforced bow...Saphen would thrust forward.

In similar fashion to a fencer the bard would lunge at Reyin's midsection in an attempt to pierce his right thigh (very close to the waist). If his opponent had some type of leg armor it would take a very small adjustment to pierce into Reyin's waist, typically in this area is where armor pieces met and thus was an easier target.

After the stab would occur the bard would quickly withdraw with his legs in a side stance. Leading with his right he would keep his bow forward, the violin back and gripped with the instrument above his left hand just as one might hold a sword and dagger.

Maybe it wasn't too late to write Reyin's Elegy thought the bard, he knew that Reyin has never seen this talent before...and was curious to see how he would react.

It was hard to keep track of an opponent when the entire arena was being used as a weapon. Reyin was good at thinking on his feet, and that was what had kept him conscious up 'til this point. When he tried to keep a bead on Saphen as he finished with his acrobatics, Reyin noticed something rather odd in the bard suddenly changing his tactics, leading with a charge and a stab.

Poor Reyin didn't even get a chance to spit out a one-liner before he was trying to pivot hard on his left foot, swiping his hunting knife down towards the incoming point in order to try and swat it away.

Reyin wasn't completely successful, the point of the bow stabbing into his thigh, narrowly missing the femoral artery and sending a splash of blood out the opposite end of his leg, meeting no resistance at all considering Reyin's only protection was in the form of a pair of athletic shorts.

No time to concern himself with that, even as his pivot caused the bow to rip out the side of his leg, worsening the wound. As Reyin completed the pivot, he turned the point of his toe down, bent down at his waist in order to balance himself for a roundhouse kick, aiming to smash the heel of his foot against Saphen's left temple before the guy could completely retreat from the stab. Following the roundhouse, Reyin would turn himself so that he was square with the bard, sheathing his hunting knife and moving to draw his longsword.

At this point there was no way for Saphen to stop his backward momentum as Reyin attempted to assault his most sacred of body parts.

This requires some Capriccio

However his left arm was in perfect position to defend himself. If his opponent had decided to back kick it would have been much more difficult to dodge but with a wheel kick there were options for the bard.

As Reyin's heel attempted to bring down the Walls of Jericho Saphen shot out his left arm. The violin pressed against the leg (slightly beneath it, on the calf near the ankle) and the bard pushed the leg upward allowing the momentum to flow. At the same time the bard bent at the knees more as he finished his withdrawal step, ducking his head but not losing sight of his opponent either.

Presto!

The violin would give the leg one last push over before releasing it, what this would do is allow the leg to pass over the bard harmlessly but that was not all.

At the same time Saphen would lift his bow, gently pressing it against the calf of his opponent's leg as it passed over him. This would meant that a single smooth slice would occur over Reyin's calf and shin area as the kick finished its journey.

As the bard released the swordsman's bodily weapon the musician went back to playing his own. The violin spun quickly back into playing position as he continued the vicious and powerful song. Still in a side stance and ready to move his bow forward at any second Saphen smiled beneath his mask.

Sometimes the only way to honor a warrior
...thought the bard...was to become one.
