Perpetua stood in the Wildflower Meadow, the site of many adventures when she was a child, with a heart that was still aching from her last meeting with Alaric and his brother. But she couldn't think of that right then. She had too many things to do, one of which was to care for little Prioska who had come into her life at just the right moment. Pet had no time to dwell on heartbreak.

"You know you need to talk to him Pet," Her guardian Saint told her, before continuing. "you can't go on just ignoring the fact that he hurt you and that brother of his almost killed you with no repercussions."

"Saint. . . I know. But. . . Prioska has to come first. She needs someone to take care of her. She had such a retched life with the other Gotlings." Perpetua said, attempting to sidestep the most current urging by her Guardian to go find Alaric.

"Yes dear, I know this, but sometimes you need to put yourself first, instead of the Gotling." Saint replied.

"I do put myself first sometimes. . . " Scrambling for something in which she was truly selfish, Pet stopped for thought before continuing, "Like when I go off to look for new marvels!"

"Nice try dear, but I know what you're really looking for and so do you." Saint scolded her gently.

Perpetua didn't reply to this last accusation, she just continued on her hunt with Prioska for something pretty to look at. The little Gotling shared her awe of beauty (or so Pet thought) and so she tried to take her to different places that had pretty flowers everyday to cheer Prioska up. So what if she was secretly hoping that she'd run into Alaric?

"Pet." Prioska said, rubbing her small head against Pet's side to get her to stop. She wanted to let the much larger female know that she appreciated what she was doing for her, but she didn't speak the female's language very well.

She could understand her perfectly, but she just couldn't get the words to come. Prioska wanted to help the other female as much ash she'd helped the Gotling but had no idea how to do so. Because of this, she just went with the other female when she needed to get away from her family.

"Yes dearest?" Pet stopped and looked down at her little love. "What is it?"

"'M sorry." Prioska forced out.

Knowing it would frustrate her, Pet didn't ask her to elaborate. She simply replied, "Don't be! That silly Saint is just meddlesome is all." and she stayed looking out at the place she'd played with Alaric as a child, willing him to come to her.

More time had passed than she was willing to admit. The last time she'd seen Alaric, he was an adult. This time, it would be Alaric to be left dumbfounded by her appearance. Perpetua had finally stepped over the threshold that marked the end of her yearling days to the beginning of her adult years, and she was both relieved and intimidated. The world was much crueler to an adult female who surely had built up her defenses, than to a weak yearling who most wouldn't bother.

And with her newly found adulthood it seemed her demeanor had changed as well as her appearance. Saint had told Pet the garment they had found for her was a kimono and it had taken both Prioska and Perpetua almost a whole day to attempt to put it on correctly and Pet had the feeling that something wasn't quite right about it. But she had a lovely flowing ribbon that trailed behind her as she walked.

And the other contraption she'd found was apparently called a parasol. Again, with Prioska's help, the two had managed to tuck it into her ribbon thingy that held her kimono together. This allowed her the ability to be beautiful and shaded at the same time, though she wished she could find an easier way to do it. . . Maybe she should just start leaving it behind at her thicket, but. . . it was just so beautiful!

Shaking her head, she turned back to the task at hand. Prioska needed cheering up! Spotting a gorgeous purple flower, she went closer to inspect it. "Look Prisoka!" she exclaimed with mock glee.

The Gotling didn't know what Perpetua found so fascinating about flowers, but at least she seemed happy when they were around them. "'S nice!" she forced out. Perpetua, oblivious to her discontent, started to inspect it more closely, bringing her nose closer to the blossom.

Alaric hadn't been to Wildflower Meadow in a long while. He wanted to say it was because he was too tired, too busy--with what? Moping? No, the truth was he had been avoiding what was once his favorite spot. Wildflower Meadow, this place was full of fond memories for him as a fawn and yearling. But now, as an adult, the memories only hurt.

Another truth, Wildflower Meadow reminded him of Perpetua. He shambled through the tall grass, slowly glancing around at the flowers. Alaric hadn't seen her in a long while, too. But even these flowers provided little comfort. He didn't want memories, why was he here? He didn't want to think about her after all, not like they would be okay together after all that.

Abruptly becoming upset, Alaric turned to leave, when he spotted two figures that stood out against the grass. He straightened up, pricking his ears and straining to see who. No, what did it matter if it was her? He didn't want to talk to her, not now- And yet Alaric felt himself moving briskly forward to get a closer look.

Stopping to study the hind, so too did his breath stop. Perpetua? She looked so different, yet he recognized her instantly-And once again, he felt a jolt of surprise as he noticed Prioska with her. Did she have a fawn? No, no, that wasn't a fawn... What was it?

Alaric realized he must have looked silly, his large brown form contrasting so greatly with the meadow. His gaping like a fool didn't help. Not keeping his eyes off of Perpetua, Alaric once again began approaching, though more calmly. Though his heart was pounding and his eyes were wide, he looked much more composed than before. No longer did it look like his horn, or his troubling thoughts, as it was, was weighing him down.

Head held high and completely focused on Perpetua before him, he didn't know why he was moving towards her when before he was all too ready to leave. Third truth, Alaric wasn't really thinking at this moment. He just felt compelled. He needed to see her again, so she wouldn't just be another memory that hurt. Hopefully.

Perpetua was concentrated on the delicacies of the flower so she didn't notice Alaric approaching until she heard Prioska gasp. Jerking to attention, her white locks swayed as she swung her head to see what was causing her friend to be scared. Her eyes widened when she saw Alaric, and her mouth dropped open in surprise. "A-Alaric?" she whispered in shock before trying to compose herself.

It was true that she'd been coming to the Wildflower Meadow hoping to see him, despite the hurt that remained from their last meeting. But now. . . Now it was just so nice to see him. Holding back a carefree smile, she turned to Alaric to greet him. "Hello Alaric." She said gently, smiling at the other herla. She couldn't show the happiness and sadness she felt at seeing him. She had to stay calm and collected, otherwise all would be lost.

Prioska shivered at her side, crouching closer to Perpetua. It was then that Pet remembered about Prioska and turned back to her to give her a gentle nudge with her snout. "Don't worry Prioska, this is Alaric. He's a. . . friend."

Prioska peeked out from behind Pet's kimono, still afraid at the sight of such a large male. "Scared." she whispered in return.

"Don't be little one. I'd never let anyone hurt you again." She smiled sadly at the Gotling as she continued, "Didn't I promise I'd take good care of you from now on?"

The tiny Gotling nodded her head and came out a little from the crook in Perpetua's side that she normally hid in, bracing herself for this one of the large horn to come over and attack them. No matter if Pet said he was a friend or not, she didn't trust this female in knowing when someone could wish her harm.

In a calm somewhat trance, Pet turned back to Alaric and started to walk forward, closing the gap between the two of them slowly. She couldn't give away her thoughts or feelings. Alaric wouldn't. . . understand. Besides, she couldn't leave herself open to being hurt again. Perpetua had to stay strong, because if she wasn't she'd just end up miserable again.

"Just stay calm Perpetua. Don't do anything drastic and everything will be fine." Saint whispered in Pet's ear, wishing her good luck with her first meeting with Alaric since the incident. Pet nodded her head gently before turning her full attention to the one she'd hoped would be her mate someday.

Alaric couldn't suppress the pleased, rare grin on his face when Perpetua began to approach him. It was a relief to see she was okay (though much different), considering all that happened last time. Still, he couldn't help but notice how calm she was.. Probably on purpose. It occurred to Alaric that it was pretty egotistical to assume she would be absolutely ecstatic to see him, and for a moment his grin faltered.

He should be thankful that Perpetua would even talk to him, so much as smile at him. What if she didn't even want to talk to him at all? A sudden heartache seized him as he realized he didn't completely know if.. if they were even together now. He still loved her, but did she feel the same? Still, he gave a small smile now as he stood in front of her, studying her lov--no, no, admiringly.

"You look beautiful, Perpetua," he nearly winced when he realized, was that too much too soon? but only let it roll off his back. It could just be a compliment, right? Because that's what it was. Yeah. "Even prettier than I remember," no, no, don't bring last time up-

Alaric changed the subject, looking down at Prioska curiously. "And who is this?" he smiled down at her, though suddenly felt nervous with Perpetua's eyes on him.

A bolt of pure pleasure went through her at the sight of Alaric's smile. Oh! how she'd forgotten the glee that seeing him smile at her brought. The two had been apart for months and yet she felt herself slipping back into the easy companionship that they'd shared before Alaric's sudden disappearance.

Stop! She ordered herself. Stop and remember what happened the last time we were together. Do you want something like that to happen again? You have to stay strong if you even want things to remotely get better for yourself. Stay calm and don't show him how you're feeling and you'll easily have the upper hand.

Tossing her hair a bit so the fringe of her bangs cleared her vision, Perpetua gave him a coy smile. "Thank you." She wasn't going to give away the fact that his mention of the last time they had met sent him sent a bolt of pure anger and pain through her. She couldn't believe that he'd not stepped in to help her. The pain that she felt before had slowly started to melt to an anger so raw she didn't know how to control it. Perpetua had never felt something like this before, it was a new and rare emotion. She wasn't aware of ever feeling something like this before.

Luckily, Alaric distracted her from her internal rage that she didn't know if she could express. Leaning down, Pet nuzzled Prioska. "This is Prioska, she's a dear friend."

Prioska, shrank back into Pet's side at Alaric's attention. "'Lo." She muttered in fear. The Gotling really didn't like being anywhere near the much larger male. She was small enough compared to Perpetua, this male was another matter altogether.
