"Variety! I loove variety. Like butterflies or grass. Each one tastes a little different." She wolfed down some grass hungrily before continuing.
"What did your parents make you do?" Birdhouse asked, tilting her head curiously to the side. "I don't really remember my past, but I don't think my parents were like me. I'm kind of different," she admitted, looking at Miki to see what he thought of that too.

Miki smiled a bit. "That's a good way to put it." He took some grass to eat as well. "My parents?" He looked up at her while he was grazing and raised his head before swallowing. "Well...lets just say we would have traditions that were years old such as arranged marriages and heirs to the fortune." He shrugged. "Truthfully money doesn't make you happy in the end. It can make you sad and lonely sometimes." He cocked his head to the side. "Really? Well nothing's wrong about being different. If we were all the same then we would have a boring world." He paused. "Wouldn't you agree?"

Arranged marriages? Money? Heirs? They were strange concepts to her, but then again, she knew of herds out there that took blood lines very seriously. Those who didn't have the right parents or families were sometimes thrown out of the herd.
"Well sometimes others don't like how different I am." She never really got upset about it. She rolled her shoulders in a kind of shrug, though she smiled when Miki said there was nothing wrong with being different. "Is that why you left your family? Oh, I hope you weren't cast out..." She finished by giving him a sympathetic look.

Miki nodded his head. "Yep." He shook his head. "Well don't worry about that...I don't live by those standards so you're fine to me." He paused for a moment and realized what he said. "Oh...I mean...I um.." He smacked his forehead. What the heck was he trying to tell her? "I just left them on my own free will. I don't like being tied down to that life."

Birdhouse tilted her head to the opposite side a little, then she seemed to give up on figuring out what he had been trying to say at first and straightened herself out. It didn't matter really... Birdhouse wasn't going to worry about the past, so she didn't need to know everything about Miki's.
"Well then it's better that way. You can find your own family," Birdhouse suddenly looked eager and started trotting in a circle. "The grass could be your family if you wanted. Or a tree. Or a friend." She nodded vigorously. "Anyone who cares about you instead of what you do."

Miki smiled. "Truthfully, I think I would like that. Very much." He looked at the grass then at Birdhouse. "You're definitely one of a kind. I'll give you that. Not in a bad way of course."

Birdhouse met his eyes and smiled too. "Thank you, I feel the same way about you. In a good way." She giggled a little, then let out a sigh. "The grass and plants are my family, but sometimes I wish I had a bigger family. Like, with someone like you in it." She thought for a moment then she seemed to flush in embarrassment when she realized what she had said.

Miki blinked for a moment. Did he actually here what she said? He didn't mind it at all, but he wasn't sure if he was dreaming or not. "Thank you..." He paused for a second. "Yes...it would be nice to have a real family...not one that wants to control me." He looked down for a moment wondering if he should say the same thing. "Someone...like you."

"Really?" Birdhouse asked, first a bit surprised, then her face lit up. She grinned, flicking her tail and back and forth curiously. "We can be our own family. Who cares about those other guys, yah?" She liked the sound of that idea, and her smile seemed to grow even wider. "We can do what we want."

Miki nodded his head. "Precisely, afterall it is our life. Better use it how we want to instead of letting others tell us what to do or what is right or what's wrong." He actually was liking the idea, plus he needed someone besides overbearing parents. "Do you live anywhere or do you tend to wander?"

Birdhouse shook her head. "Yes I wander, but I shouldn't... I am part of the Riverbend herd, but I rarely travel with them," she admitted, hiding her face in her long hair. "Life goes by too fast in the herd, you know? I can't just stop and look around if I want to." Then she looked back up at him, sympathy in her eyes. "But it's better than being all alone."

Miki shrugged a bit. "Well you got that right. It's better than living alone." He looked around. "It's really not that bad. As long as you're with the people you care about and the people that care about you then you can be at home wherever you are." He looked back towards her with a wink. "Right?"
