When Eve learns about birthday parties.

Eve awoke to the sound of bickering, echoing from downstairs. She picked up the Spanish accent of Romero’s voice, but whimpered at the harsh tone of it. Louie’s voice sounded strained and Eve gasped as she heard him curse in French, something he rarely did.
The toddler was very curious now about what would have Louie and Romero so crabby. Anya was out on a job, so they couldn’t have been fighting over her like they did sometimes. So Eve crawled out of her bed and hugged her doll to her side. Her movement disrupted Patch the sprite from his bed on a small pillow on her bed. The red and white sprite seemed tired, yawning as he landed on her shoulder.
“Patch, what do you think is up?” Eve asked the sprite softly.
She jumped as she heard a bang downstairs before running downstairs, afraid to see who had gotten hurt.
Patch held on tight as Eve ran down the stairs, a little afraid himself.
Eve stopped at the bottom of the stairs, creeping around the corner. Her eyes widened at the sight.
The couch was moved to the far wall with boxes and what looked like colorful paper. Louie and Romero stood in the middle of the room with rolls of paper in hand that were purple and green.
“Eve likes green best.”
“No, she likes purple best.”
“Green.”
“Purple.”
This went on for a few minutes before and both vampires looked ready to come to blows over this simple matter. Eve however was confused as why they were fighting over what color she liked best. She didn’t see the purpose in the green and purple paper.
“No need to fight, I like both colors.”
Both vampires jumped at her voice and seemed to be looking for her. Eve walked around the corner, looking at them with her mismatched eyes.
“Why are you two fighting over colors and why is the couch moved?”
Eve’s words were blunt to them, but they were speechless for a moment before thinking up a lie that Eve would believe.
Romero spoke first with a smile, “Ivy wants to paint the walls either green or purple since you like them.”
Eve raised an eye brow at that as her mother didn’t care what color the walls were as long as they weren’t pink and her mother never seemed to want to change the color of the walls. Ivy didn’t care about that.
“You’re lying and I’m going to tell Mommy,” Eve said, acting her age for a moment. She ran to the kitchen where she heard her mother’s voice.
She smelled frosting and heard them talking about a cake.
Before she could come into the kitchen, her mother came out and picked her up.
“I heard the putter of small feet. Eve, mind keeping out of the hair of the others for a few hours,” Ivy asked and she held her daughter close.
Eve pouted, “What is going on? Romero and Louie are in the living room with what looks like things for a party and I thought I smelled my favorite frosting in the kitchen."

Ivy laughed softly, finding her daughter’s confusion cute. “Honey, it’s all right. It’s your birthday today and we’re setting the party up for you.”
Ivy carried her daughter up to her room, “What’s a birthday, Mommy?”
The assassin sighed, “I’ll tell you in my study.”
“All right, Mommy,” Eve was still confused, but trusted her mother to tell her the truth.
“Mommy, Romero and Louie tried to lie to me.”
Ivy laughed as those two would never live down the fact that they couldn’t lie to a toddler.
