Concoctions and Mixtures
Most of you are probably wondering, "Whaaa? What the heck do we wanna do with concoctions!" Well I was inspired by a friend of ours who loves to create scientific type characters. Anyways I'm off subject here, let's continue. This system is for more traditional type mages and is optional to use.
A potion is a consumable medicine or poison, usually possessing magical properties.
In mythology, a potion is a concoction used to heal, bewitch or poison people, made by a magician, sorcerer or witch. E.g. Love potions make a person fall in love with another (The love potion figures tragically into most versions of the tale of Tristan and Iseult, including Richard Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde); sleeping potions cause a person to fall asleep (in folklore, this can range from normal sleep to a deathlike trance); and Elixirs are potions which heal/cure any wound/malady (as in C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe).
A concoction is, strictly speaking, a combination of various ingredients, usually herbs, spices, condiments, powdery substances or minerals, mixed up together, minced, dissolved or macerated into a liquid so as they can be ingested or drunk. The term "concoction" is sometimes loosely used metaphorically in order to describe a cocktail or a motley assemblage of things, persons or ideas.
Quite often, various extremely pungent and spicy ketchups or hot sauces, usually based on Cayenne peppers, are inadvertently (or for marketing reasons) called "concoctions".
Note: These creations are Soaps, Perfumes, Potions/Poisons, Scents, Oils, Gums, Pellets and etc.
Termina Version of an Potion/Poison Restrictions
* No Potion/Poison that Auto Kills, or Auto Heals.
* No Potion/Poison that will reduce damage.
* No Potion/Poison that allows a person to automatically learn a technique
* No Potion/Poison that allows one to Fly, Levitate, or Reduction of using Gravity.
* Only Live Creatures may consume a Potion/Poison.
Name:
* The Name of the Potion/Poison is important because, obviously, you need to have a name for your Potion/Poison. It can be in any language, but since this is a pre-dominantly English-speaking rp, you can attach, in parenthesis () the name of the Potion/Poison. Doing the name in another language adds some unique flavor to your Potion/Poison, but it is not necessary. There are several online translators available for use in the production of names.
Location:
* The Location consists of one part for the Potion/Poison Template. It consists of Location within Regions. The Locations are divided up into 16 Regions. A Potion/Poison may be found in multiple Regions within reason, however it is unlikely to find an Potion/Poison in the Arctic Region as well as a Volcanic Region. This gives an idea of where a user must go to search for the Potion/Poison in question. A Potion/Poison is not set within a season because no matter what a Potion/Poison can be eternal and found at all times. The Potion/Poison found within a Region are where the Animals/Herbs are found in order to make it so its only obvious and common sense that the Potion/Poison will be found in the same locations.
o Arctic - The Arctic Region is a section of land that is considered to be extremely cold through the year. The arctic has a tendency to allow hardly any life especially that of plant life. The Arctic section is found within the high northern parts and low southern parts completely away from the warm areas.
o Coastal - A coastal region is a land based area where it lies near areas of vast amounts of salt water which can be found within a large Salt water lake, as well as oceans and seas. Coastal sometimes reach all the way back up to five miles beyond the normal point of the salt water.
o Desert - A desert region can be found around most places. A desert is a region defined as having an average of approximately less then ten inches or rain per year. A section that is very dry, where rain hardly drops upon is a place known as a Desert.
o Forest - A forest is any area that is heavily covered with trees. There are both large forests, which may cover vast areas, and small forests. A forest can usually be identified by covering at least five-quarter miles in diameter.
o Grasslands - A Grassland is a place barely touched by agriculture and has very few trees within as well. The land is made up mostly by Grass hence the name, Grasslands. The grass can sometimes reach up to at two feet, even three or four feet high.
o Hills - A hill is a relatively small raised area of land. They are often found at the foot of mountains, but may exist in their own right, separate from the surrounding landscape.
o Jungle - A Jungle is found within Tropical Regions where the weather is constant, where the summers are wet, and has dry winters. Similar to that of a Forest but with more of a Tropical feel such as no pine trees.
o Mountains - Very large, raised areas of land, often found at the borders of continental shelves. A notable feature of mountains is that they are, due to their height, often much colder than the surrounding land. Another feature is the rain shadow phenomena. It may rain very heavily on one side of a mountain, but not at all on the other.
o Rivers - A river is a large natural waterway. It is a specific term in the vernacular for large streams, stream being the umbrella term used in the scientific community for all flowing natural waterways. In the vernacular, stream may be used to refer to smaller streams, as may creek, run, fork, etc.
o Rural - This describes farmland, land that has been turned over to agriculture, but is only sparsely settled.
o Special - Listed within the Description of the Animals.
o Swamp - A swamp is a wetland that features permanent inundation of large areas of land by shallow bodies of water, generally with a substantial number of hummocks, or dry-land protrusions. Swamps usually are regarded as including a large amount of woody vegetation. When a wetland area does not, it is usually termed a marsh.
o Underworld - Underworld is simply stated as under ground complexes such as underground cities, caves, caverns and other things of sort.
o Urban - Any area that is widely settled, such as towns, villages or cities.
o Volcanoes - A volcano is a geological landform (usually a mountain) where magma (rock of the earth's interior made molten or liquid by high pressure and temperature) erupts through the surface of the planet. Although there are numerous volcanoes (some very active) on the solar system's rocky planets and moons, on Earth at least, this phenomenon tends to occur near the boundaries of the continental plates. However, important exceptions exist in hot spot volcanoes.
o Wasteland - Land which is considered to be economically unfit for production, such as swampland or desert land. This type of land is usually defined as a place such as an Elephant graveyard, or a place where a great disaster has suddenly occurred, allowing hardly any growth.
Preparation:
* Preparation is what is needed in order to state what a user must do in order to use the effects of the Potion/Poison properly. Does the user have to use the Potion/Poison part as a tea substance? Do they have to freeze the Potion/Poison part before using it? Does the user have to be dried? How long does it take in order to perform the actions needed? Can a user just simply mix the Animals/Herbs and pop the stuff in their mouth, or simply apply it to their wounds? Does it need preparation at all? Remember the longer it takes and harder it takes for preparation the stronger and more potent, as well harder to handle the Potion/Poison will become.
Description:
* This is the area where you go through, systematically listing your Potion/Poison. What it looks like in color, shape, and form. Is there any unique marking on the Potion/Poison. Is it a Perfume, Incense, Soap, or just a Concoction. This is normally the longest part of the Potion/Poison and should be at least semi detailed. Please also elaborate as to how long the Potion/Poison may last when the Potion/Poison is taken. An unprepared Potion/Poison may last up to eighteen weeks, while a prepared Potion/Poison may last up to four years long on a shelf when dried but mixed, while a concoction may sometimes last a lifetime.
Drawback:
* Does the Potion/Poison have a backfire against you? What if the Potion/Poison is handled with bare hands does it harm the user? Can a person become addicted to the Potion/Poison, and if so what happens to them and how may they get out of the addiction. How careful must a user be while handling the Potion/Poison. Does the Potion/Poison have any drawbacks when used? The whole phrase “If you play with fire, sooner or later you’re going to get burned” comes into play here when dealing with a strong Potion/Poison. If you are really having trouble creating a drawback, you can go ahead and say so, and one of the moderators will be more than willing to help you come up with one.
