Personality:
Loyal She is very loyal to her friends, perhaps even annoyingly so. When her companions need help, Eun is quick to rush to their aid even if she ends up punished or injured afterwards. She cherishes her friends dearly and is afraid of losing them, so she often does whatever they ask and attempts to help them whenever she can. When they are in a conflict or fight Eun does her best to calm the fight or at least stick by her friend’s side of the story. Since she is afraid of losing her friends, Eun can appear to be unnecessarily clingy or too servile at times. Family friends have sometimes compared Eun Kyung to a loyal puppy that follows others.

Subservient As a child, Eun Kyung has been raised to be docile and obedient. When she did not perform to her mother’s standards, Eun was always told to practice harder and to follow every command/order to a tee. Although she asked questions at first, she was quickly shot down. Consequently, if someone with authority orders her to do something she will not question nor hesitate to execute the command. It makes her an excellent pawn, but also more easily manipulated by others because she blindly follows what other people say. However, at times it can be useful when someone wants to execute a plan that may be dubious at first-glance. If ordered by someone from the other side, she will usually reject the command. However, if s/he is able to intimidate her enough Eun can be convinced to obey. She tries her best to follow orders, even when they negatively impact her friends, but the more negative/closer the friend the more likely she will not follow.

Bottled up Over the years, she has learned it’s better to lie about her feelings than to trouble others—especially her mother. Even when she feels depressed or frustrated Eun Kyung will not say a peep about it and instead keep timidly smiling and following others. While it does allow her to keep functioning normally on a day-to-day basis, her negative emotions keep piling up and eventually she is forced to relieve stress. This usually comes in the form of Eun becoming more snappish and passive-aggressive for the next few days depending on how pent up she is. Eun has attempted to fix her problem, but still finds it difficult to express her feelings. Since she attempts to 'hide' her episodes by heading toward places/areas she does not normally go to or intentionally avoid friends, her episodes are not as well known one would think they should be.

Naive Her mother has always sheltered Eun Kyung, fearing for her ‘innocence’ and wellbeing despite her harsh attitude. As a result she has a rather incomplete perspective of the world and has an optimistic way of thinking about things. Innuendos fly over her head and certain cultural/local norms she has a difficult time grasping. Her eyes also tend to light up like a child’s whenever she finds something new ie. (a new activity or general concept) and seems quite eager to try new things. When it comes to other things, such as relationships, her mileage may vary her reaction depends. She may be embarrassed/horrified or she may still be innocently curious and eager.

Likes: Music, tranquility, nature, gardening, tea, rhythm, beauty, dresses
Dislikes: being a let-down, failure, loss, loneliness, disappointment, dirt, fighting, sports/athletics

Hobbies:
Floral Arrangement Eun Kyung loves plants, especially flowers. She is knowledgeable about various plant species and lovingly grows them in her backyard. Whatever flowers she is unable to grow, she eagerly purchases from multiple shops and stands. Afterwards, she carefully compiles the flowers into arrangements. Her house is constantly filled with numerous bouquets that often change each week. Eun Kyung also creates her arrangements with the season in mind, such as preferring cool-colored petals in winter or using summer flowers in its appropriate season. She also usually carries around a few flowers to give out to others as a small gift or peace offering.

Flute When she needs to unwind and relax, Eun Kyung plays her flute. Although she quite talented with it, she prefers to stay in her room and practice by herself. While she won't object to playing if someone asks her to, she does not go out of her way to play for others unless they are a close friend who needs cheering up or music to relax to. The main reason is that she believes she is not very skilled at the flute and should practice more before performing in front of a crowd unless requested or necessary.

Quirks:
-tends to add "I think" to the end of a lot of her sentences
-twiddles her fingers often
-usually has her eyes focused on the ground, has a difficult time keeping eye contact for more than a second

History

She has always lived in the countryside. Although her brothers were free to come and go as they pleased, Eun’s mother forced her to stay within the compound whenever possible. Inside the house, she learned the things her mother wanted to: cooking, housekeeping, sewing, and other feminine activities. Rarely was Eun Kyung able to learn academics (other than the basics) and politics since her mother believed that it would soil Eun. However, when she was a child she was often allowed to visit the city where her half-brother, Tae Kyung, lived. [[Plotted with Koco about it, s'all good! ]] He occasionally watched over Eun when her other brothers could not and as a result she grew to really admire and care for Tae Kyung. Once she grew older, however, Eun was forbidden to visit the city. Only recently has she been allowed to come to the city again upon her mother's request to check up on her cousin.

Family

Ae Cha - Eun Kyung’s mother Tae Kyung’s stepmother. Unlike her name, she is strict and cold. Although she has shown concern over her daughter’s wellbeing, she often views Eun as an important chess piece and keeps Eun at a distance.

Dae Hyun - the eldest son that grew up to be the man that his father dreamed he would be. Through determination, practice, and natural talent he has achieved many feats, including being of a notable rank within the Nobles. From a young age Dae Hyun consistently did better than a fair number of his peers, giving birth to his confident-bordering-on-arrogant ways. He also takes honor and pride very seriously. Dae Hyun is truthful and holds to his promises. He is also an easygoing lad who deeply cares for his siblings.

Sang Min - unlike Dae Hyun who is physically talented, Sang Min is mentally talented. From a young age he had taken to reading and learning, astronomy in particular. His parents and siblings often found him outside on the roof, admiring the stars. Rather than make use of his intelligence by becoming a strategist for the Legion, Sang Min decided to become a scholar instead. His father is quite disappointed in this, but respects his decision nonetheless.

Reason to Join

Initially, while Eun Kyung had heard of the Noble vs Legion conflict she did not pay close attention to it. However, when her mother asked her to go to the city in order to look after her half-brother, she could not resist the request. She ended up joining the Nobles in order to more closely observe her half-sibling and also because her family supports the Nobles.

Skills

Eun Kyung is not aware of it, but she possesses the capability to become a soul conduit, specifically a live soul conduit. Although very weak, with a bit of training her abilities to bless/enhance and heal souls will become useful. She is also adept at housekeeping and performing basic aid.

OTL
I hope you will use the return key more often in the future.
The lack of it makes everything look like a giant wall of text.
Very intimidating. Furthermore, it makes it hard on the eyes to pick out details.

Now then, for her personality.
I find it amusing that Eun Kyung does not live up to her name unless she's on the battle field. It makes for an interesting play. I can see more than a few Legion warriors underestimating her based on her day to day behavior.

Aside from that, I wish to see a heavy flaw in her personality. Something that can really bring her down. You might think that my suggestion is strange but by picking a large flaw, you ensure character growth in the future. C:

Her hobbies are pretty good. Tie in well with her personality. It's nice to know she likes the flute as well.
C:

Your history is a bit flimsy. * O*
That's okay. You still have a lot of time to work on it though. It's very short, you could go into detail about what got her interested in running around with the boys as compared to being dainty with her sister and etc.

The skills she can offer for the Nobles fit her personality well.

Kudos. Just a bit more tweaking and you'll be ready to get marked.

Really? I didn't realize. xD;; I'll add in more spaces then.

I thought it was amusing too. x3 The irony!
But yes, I can understand what you mean by adding in a heavy flaw. C: I shall work on that!

Urk. Yeah. I'm not very good at histories. xD;; I'll try to elaborate on more things.

Thanks Koco! I actually thought there'd be more things that I'd have to tweak with my quest. Shall work on them ASAP!

I love her name and how her appearance doesn't match it. It makes for a very amusing and interesting character. Her tomboyish and brash attitude is endearing, and I love her "big brother-ish" way of thinking, despite her feminine name.

The flute is a nice twist to her otherwise masculine way of thinking; it shows that she still has some girl in her, despite everything else. But I think you need a few more hobbies; while they're good, they seem a bit lacking in quantity. Maybe add a few more, just to round out her character a bit more?

I'd be interested in seeing her history as well, though I see you're redoing it. ;]

Great job so far. =)

Okay, so I really like her. XD I think she's well rounded in the right areas, and you keep the emphasis on her character together. She likes to fight, and does it proudly. I think the flute is really cute~ it was a nice touch. I like that she's not motherly either, it's not to common to see a girl be more brotherly.

And I have to say, I really enjoyed her history and family story. It's always bound to happen in a larger family, that she's kind of the 'black sheep'. And I like the added thoughts about her family. So I wouldn't change much Xd You have some awesome profile writing skills lol

Completely revamped Eun Kyung~ C:
PostPosted: Sun Aug 07, 2011 10:51 pm

Okay, so it looks like, reading old quests comments, I'm the only one who finds having two Kyungs a problem. In light of that, although I will point out that not everyone will enjoy the confusion, I am not the majority. Most of the quest refers to her either by her full name, or by Eun, so it wasn't really a problem until I got to the motivation behind her Noble alliance, and it said "Kyung" alone.

There is no real conflict in her personality. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it would be nice to see motivation for change somewhere, and I don't really see that capacity. Is she going to simply grow a backbone and start to stick up for herself? That potential for growth is good, I suppose, I'm just wondering what possible catalyst could undo, if any could undo her spinelessness. I'm a sucker for conflict in personalities, or some trait which gives characters extra dimensions. In this case, almost all, if not all of Eun's traits can be summarized to her obedience, which stems from desire for approval.

Although I understand that her desire to obtain her father's approval is a pivotal aspect of this character, I believe that she would not suffer from subsidiary motivation. For example, those bottled emotions have to go somewhere. Right now, she looks too much like she'll give in to being a martyr. Even that would be an interesting manifestation, playing the martyr. She does not appear to have any real flaws, is what I'm trying to say. Even if she has a potential temper, and there is mention that she can have a "nasty hurricane of emotions," that is the only indication that she has any negative traits at all.

The traits "Through a teary smile," "I don't need anything," and "Serving to please" are extremely closely linked. Is there any way the shorter one "I don't need anything" could become part of "Serving to Please" and thus freeing up room for a different trait? I want to see what she is like when she is pushed over the edge, as it says she can be. That would be a better extra trait. I do not believe you need to focus so exclusively on her passivity; the point is driven home rather effectively, and "I don't need anything" really does seem like it would fit just fine in "Serving to Please."

Her other usual expression is a "soft smile" and "teary eyes"? I think that is perhaps taking the passivity a little above and beyond. What is she doing in a war, if that's what she always looks like? How can she even be near a battle? I realize she can just "smile and take it" kind of idea, but ... right now, there does not appear to be anything keeping this fragile thing from snapping in two. And that's not built into her personality. So if she can't snap, and she can't bend, what's going to happen? She only has four traits, three if you are able to merge the two I recommended and thus avoid too much repetition, so that leaves two other whole facets of her personality. Consider other elements of her personality than just her "default state" and maybe you can add a little realistic depth so that it seems like she could actually hold her own in a war. Even if her role is a supportive one.

She dislikes failure, but she also dislikes fighting/dirt/sports and athletics. What will happen in her battles, when she has to fight? How would you justify a win, if her character is so strongly geared towards pacifism?

Hobbies: She loves gardening, and nature, but also floral arrangements; does she never feel guilty that she's killing all the flowers that she and others have grown for temporary pleasures? Is Eun the kind to indulge in temporary pleasures to make herself feel tranquil, or does that bother her? Basically, that is the impression which enjoying floral arrangements provides to me: Eun is a timid creature who partakes in activities of fleeting pleasure to try and make herself feel better. What does she do with her floral arrangements? Does she donate any of them to causes, sell them, make them as gifts? It mentions peace offerings. That's cool.

Flute: Why is she embarassed about the flute? I didn't see why she would be embarassed if she craves praise. Embarassment often seems to stem from humble personality types, but Eun is not humble in her traits so much as someone who craves attention and thus approval. If she can't get attention, no one can approve of her. Does she not want attention, then?

I like the quirk of adding "I think" to the end of sentences, and the finger twiddling.

History: I'm not sure I understand why the father made it her birthday gift to send her siblings away. Is he cruel, did he think he was not cruel, does he dislike his daughter in some way? Why did he not send the daughter away alone? Essentially, it seems like a setup for her approval-craving behaviour, and I'm not sure why it happened. A point that important in her life should probably have a slightly more elegant motivation behind it. After all, some don't believe in the concept of an "evil" character, so it can't just be dismissed that he's "cruel"?

Where did the patience to "endure" her life of being perfect come from?

Who is Mommy Tae and why is she used as a sort of Deus ex Machina to prevent Eun from having to make her own decision? This is an important point in her history, as she was given the choice to pick her own fate and instead the story assigns the decision to a strange and previously unmentioned individual. Who was Mommy Tae to the father? Why is Eun's name Eun Kyung and her cousin just Kyung? Even if Eun Kyung's name is fine despite the first Kyung at Lunaria, I don't think her cousin's name is as integral to the story or character, so why is he also Kyung, causing more confusion?

Skills: I didn't see the clumsiness anywhere in her quest until the last line. If she's clumsy, perhaps add that into her personality? How big of a deal is it in her life? Clumsiness would be a nice trait, as it would clash with her desire for perfection and approval, as well as perhaps affect not only physical grace but also tact in conversation and human relationships.

What would she do if someone refused to allow her to be passive?

Derp. Updated. Figured it was easier to revamp Eun Kyung than to keep her current traits. 8D;; Consequently, history is also redone and reason is clarified.

The reason there was 'Kyung' in the reason to join was because it was referring to the other Kyung. xD;; Eun Kyung and Tae Kyung are half-siblings.

HELLO o u o I will be critting you, today! Pleased to see you again o uo!

I will be breaking my crit up into sections, and trying to applaud what you've done well, while perhaps pointing out some things that would strengthen your character if edited! Feel free to ask me questions for clarification, and please quote me with any replies, as I may not see them otherwise! :D

Appearance: Looks good o uo Is her hair solidly midnight blue, or does it have any variations/highlights or lowlights? Also it says she likes to adorn her hair, is there any particular accessory which she favours? :D

Personality:
Loyal: I don't think that her trying to "be somewhat objective" belongs in a trait about her loyalty! It definitely does this trait a disservice; if trying to remain objective is a goal of hers, then it should be in another trait, ideally one which highlights her desire to maintain balance. In this case, what I feel applies more is the fact that she would stick by her friend's side.

Subservient: Does she follow everyone's orders? It says someone in authority, but not what she would do when faced with orders by authority of the other side in this conflict. Because it would be strange, although interesting, to see her conflicted over whose orders to follow. Not that it needs to be that way! Just curious how far her subservience extends. What would happen if she was ordered to harm someone to whom she was loyal? Would she listen to the orders, or would loyalty trump duty?

Bottled Up: Don't see anything in this which really needs to be edited o uo Does she feel bad about this, or does it not bother her? Would she change, if given the chance? Does she realize that she snaps at others?

Naive: Also looks good! However, is "something new" a specific kind of something? For example, since she's 'innocent,' would relationship things be uncomfortable for her rather than exciting, or do all things excite her?

Likes/Dislikes: Pretty consistent o uo

Hobbies: Very succint! How come she believes she's not skilled with the flute?

History: Pretty simplistic, no problem with it that I can see o 3o How come she was forbidden to visit the city? Did something happen?

Reason to Join: So wait, when did she join them? Did she escape back into the city after she was forbidden, or?... I guess include this into the history a little better! Just so that the timeline is easier to decipher o uo

Skills: The only qualm I have here is since you call her "adept" at basic aid, I'd love to see that elaborated a little?... What kind do you consider "basic aid," like... making a sling? Or can she sew up wounds? How does she feel about gore, where did she learn these skills? Perhaps it would make more sense, given her affinity for plants, if her talent was not in first aid specifically but rather balms and poultices? Healing stuff made with plants, even teas made from bark, etc. Something that involves her Herbalism!
