The Story of Persephone is one of my favourite myths.
For anyone who doesn't know the story I'll give a brief summary.
Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus (I believe) and the wife of Hades.
The story is that Hades kidnaps Persephone to the underworld where she's entirely miserable and always searching for a way home. While on earth Demeter is searching frantically for her lost daughter and destroys all the crops and wreck vicious winter on the lands until her daughter is returned. Zeus discovers Hades has Persephone and forces him to give her up but unfortunately she's eaten some pomegranate seeds from the underworld and thus must remain there forever. Zeus bargains with Hades and Persephone is allowed to spend six months with her mother Demeter and six months with her husband Hades. In the six months she is with Hades Demeter makes it winter.
That's a brief overview, some details may not be exact.
I really like that myth mainly because its the first one I remember ever studying in school. Also I really like it because in my 8th grade class we perform a court trial on this myth. It was deciding who got custody of Persephone: Demeter or Hades. I played the part of Persephone. Unfortunately Hades' side won.
