There was only one answer to Nawiri’s dilemma, and unfortunately Complex could do nothing to stop it. Without warning his legs gave out, and before the male could so much as gasp a breath to warn them, the tower collapsed upon him. Now, Com liked to think of himself as a tough guy, as that’s what superheroes were made of: the tough stuff! So he could take the God awful pains running up his ankles and thighs, sure, that was regular ol’ pain and he could master it . . .eventually. What the puppy couldn’ take, however, was the weight of two girls atop him. He gave a small hoarse cry.
“Aaah!” Deviant had no such illusions of pretending to be strong. Dangit, she was scared! And it wasn’t exactly a nice landing either, what with landing on Com’s hip first, followed by some unruly prods from Nawiri’s above – dung, but she was thin! And the stupid bird, oooooh - ! “Let me at him!” she cried after rolling off her brother and shakily getting to her paws, feeling the sting of its pecks still as she glared above. “Come fly closer and see what you can peck next, rat with wings! C’mon!” she bared her little teeth at the feisty thing.
“Ouch . . .” He wanted to tell her to stop yelling, but Com barely had the strength to twitch, let alone speak currently. ”S-Sorry . . .”

As Complex's legs gave out from beneath him, Nawiri felt the whole puppy pile begin to shake. Half yelping in surprise and fear, when Deviant went down Nawiri gave a half-leap have slip off her as well. She didn't land particularly well and did more of a roll off Complex and on to her side, nothing but a mess of grey and black limbs. "Ugh," she groaned for a moment, stretching out her legs and hoping nothing was broken. Thankfully, she was a resilient little thing, and the most she sustained was a few bruises.
She didn't ever want to fall off two pups again.
The little bird was satisfied with the tumbling of the puppies and giving Deviant one last warning chirrup he returned to his claimed branch, glaring down at the pair.
Rolling unsteadily to her feet, Nawiri looked over at her two friends, wondering how they were faring. "Are you guys all right?" She questioned, walking over to Deviant and offering her a small nuzzle and doing the same to Complex. Concern shone through her red and blue eyes as she studied them, wanting to make sure they weren't terribly broken.
"I . . . I don't think birds want to teach puppies to fly today," she stated softly, flattening her ears. "They. . .they din' seem very happy." What a shame. She would have liked her new friend to have been able to fly.

Deviant only offered a little hiss, still rather fixated on goading the bird to come down and try nipping at her again. Her poor fur! It was bad enough she had nearly broken something probably, but to be clipped by some midget creature was just beneath her! Worse, the girl was pitying and fretting over her. Well you know what, blackie, even royalty can take care of itself, Deviant grumbled in her thoughts, pointedly not looking at Nawiri as she sat down with a wince and once more began to clean herself as if the embarrassing tower had never been erected.
“Guess . . . Guess not,” Complex panted, bending his limbs slowly to regain feeling in his toes again. He tilted his ears back apologetically when it was his turn to be nuzzled by Nawiri. “Sorry to make you two go through that. I-It was stupid of me.” He had just been so sure it would work . . . But what if that blindness had gotten them into worse trouble? He frowned with guilt.
“Darn right it was!” added his still semi-flustered sister between licks. “Now can we go home?”
“I guess so . . . You wanna come, Nawiri?” he asked, looking to his friend. “It’s kinda ten minutes away for walking, but my parents are really nice, and so’s the pack. Maybe they have food we could eat too.”

Nawiri honestly wasn't trying to pity them; she just felt so bad that they all took a spill and the little nurturer within her wanted nothing more than to make sure they were all fine. Thankfully Deviant seemed all right. . .she didn't really say anything and began grooming her coat.
As for Complex, he still seemed rather pained but hadn't complained about any broken or bruised bones. That was a good sign, wasn't it? And none of them were bleeding, which was even better! Somehow though, she thought that they all might be a little sore come the morning. . . Strange how hurts sometimes took awhile to show. Oh well. . . nothing any of them could do about it now!
Suddenly though, she was asked to go with them. Never had she been invited to go anywhere, and Nawiri felt her heart leap in her throat. "Oh . . . c-could I?" She questioned, intrigued about his family and his pack! Wow. . .a real pack! She'd never met a pack wolf before, much less royalty at that.
And yet, she knew she couldn't. . . or at least shouldn't. Adelia had told her to stay put, and if she returned to find her gone. . well. . . that might cause trouble. And if she got in trouble while Adelia could n** hard and certainly allow her displeasure to be known. . . if it was Adenru who found her. . . She gave a slight shudder at the thought. The golden male was very strong and very big and much less friendly than Adelia, and he'd even tried to eat her once before Adelia had stepped in!
"I . . . I can't though. I'm supposed to stay here and I'll . . I'll get in big trouble if they come back and I'm gone. But I really wish I could. . . I've never met a real family before, or a pack either." She admitted, voice taking on a wistful tone. She wondered what their pack was like, or their family; were they all sorts of striped and pink and purple too? Not ugly greys and blacks like her. . .
A shame really she couldn't leave. There was no telling when Adelia and Adenru would return, and if they didn't come back until it was past dark she would feel awful. Because then she'd miss out on hanging with her friends and would be stuck all alone once more.
Besides which, her stomach was awfully empty. Adelia and Adenru fed her enough to keep her alive, but there were days even their hunting luck failed.

“’Course you can come! There’s plenty of room.” Well, there was a silver lining! At least they could all go back and, while they were being scolded for trying to communicate with birds in such a strange manner, all three would eat some sort of meal and be happy that their stomachs were being satisfied if nothing else – even while their ears were being equally filled with a lecture. Dad for sure would be sore about them going off on their own; he was always trying to corral them where they could be seen, which annoyed Deviant and just made Complex smile at his attentions; he was bad about showing his affection for the pups, but at least both of their parents did care for them. Briefly he wondered if Nawiri had that same sort of relationship with her parents.
This was quickly stopped when his friend began to backstep from the idea of coming with them, and the pink boy blinked with some confusion. “But it’ll be really quick, and they won’t miss you if you go and eat with us really quick. I could bring you back here right afterwards.”
Deviant stretched out her leg and viewed it critically as she spoke, looking for any rebellious hairs. “Idiot, you wouldn’t be able to find this place again anyway. You’re horrible with directions.” Good, everything looked in place once more. She got back onto her paws and huffed a sigh at her brother. “We’d better just leave her here and get back home. I mean, we’re already probably in way big trouble, so let’s not make it worse.”
“But . . .” It didn’t feel right to just leave Nawiri alone to him. “If we’re already in trouble, it won’t matter if we get there later or earlier, right? Let’s stay with Nawiri until her parents come back.” Com assumed that’s who she was talking about at any rate.
“Are you crazy? What if they decide to take us hostage, Com?” Deviant snapped. “Can’t you remember for one second that you’re a prince, not some stupid superwolf-lynx-bird thing? They’ll take us and hold us ransom for . . . I dunno, food and a den or something! No way am I sticking around.” Besides, maybe they smell weird like this girl. Or worse! Nawiri looked thin as it was; her parents probably weren’t in any better shape.
Complex frowned at the accusations. Then again, Deviant always did look on the darker side of things. “Nawiri’s nice, Dee. Her parents can’t be that bad,” he countered. “You can go ahead if you want to tell Mom and Dad where I am, but I wanna make sure Nawiri gets back to her parents safely.”
Deviant rolled her eyes and growled a little. ”So stubborn! Now I have to stay too. Heaven, I’m never going out with you again, you hear me?”

"Her parents won't be coming back for her," Adelia's cool voice rang out from the shadows opposite the pups. She had returned to check up on the young cub only to find she wasn't alone. . . Two pups were with her, pups of the most peculiar colors.
It was small favors that it was Adelia who found them and not her father. Much as she loved him, she knew that he had a soft spot for the tender flesh of puppies. She loved him, even though she didn't agree with his views. . .or his tastes! Pushing her way through the buses, the golden female stood before the three puppies, studying X and Deviant with a cool sort of curiosity.
Enter the step-sister of the fairy tail . . . not entirely bad but not quite over flowing to the brim with goodness either. She made sure Nawiri was kept fed, and safe, but love and affection weren't her strong suits. "And while I'm surprised to find royalty in our midsts," she smiled over at Deviant, though her eyes seemed to burn with mockery, "I promise I won't be taking you hostage or holding you ransom. If Nawiri wishes to go, than let her go . . . She may be ugly, but she's smart for a girl, she can find her way back."
Compliments weren't her strong point either.
Nawiri's ears twitched and she beamed with delight as Adelia appeared. Adelia who was much larger and much bigger than Nawiri could ever imagine herself being. "Ooooh . . . . Oh can I 'Delia?" She questioned, resisting the urge to run over to her 'sister' and shower her in affection.
But it occurred to her that maybe Complex had only wanted to stay or invite her if she was alone. Ducking her head, she looked back at her two friends and added, ". . . unless you guys just want to go by yourself. I . . . I don't want to get you in trouble anymore or . . . . or anything." She half lowered her head, looking back and forth between the two.
They were royalty after all. . . .Nawiri just a commoner. A lowly commoner at that.
There was something sad about the way the afternoon was beginning to wrap. These were the first new puppies she'd met and she was afraid she'd never get to see them again. And she wanted to, desperately so! They were fascinating and fun, even if Deviant seemed a little irritable. But Complex was awfully sweet and these were the only friends she had. . .
If they left now, would she ever get to see them again?

Oh . . . dung. It was the worst curse Deviant knew right then, and if it were not for her background, she might have swore it aloud several times. If there was anything she hated more than having to deal with her brother’s antics (actually, any one of her brothers’ antics for that matter), it was being snuck up on. She started at the sound of the adult’s cool voice and actually let out a growl even as she glued herself right next to X, glaring at the creamy orange female throughout. She smelled just as funny as Nawiri, which didn’t help her nerves; what was wrong with these wolves? Did they eat carrion or something? Gods . . . Her hackles stiffened despite the fact that this “‘Delia” wasn’t posing open threat to them. Three pups, one stranger, no supervision . . .
It was a trap! Deviant thought. Nawiri was just the lure! Gods dung it, X, look what you got us into!
As always, however, X was very, very oblivious to his sister’s behavior. As well as to the implications of the adult’s first words. It was like his mind only wanted to focus on the details that specified an optimistic future, in which this case was that their friend could come along if she wanted. Which she did, right? “Don’t worry about it!” Complex told Nawiri with a big smile, tail wagging resuming. “Our parents are nice and so’s our pack. I’m sure they won’t mind.” Oh, this so made up for not getting flight lessons!
“Thank you for letting us take her, Miss ‘Delia,” he added politely with a nod to the adult, always remembering his manners like a cool superhero did. Even though it’dve been cooler if he could have said “All in a day’s work, ma’m” or something. “We’ll make sure she gets back safely. You can come too if you want! There’s always plenty of food.”
Deviant’s eyes bulged as she heatedly hissed in his ear, {Whatareyouthinking?! One pup’s bad enough, but an older stranger? X, you’re so stupid, you can’t just go inviting everyone you see!}
{But that’s what good wolves and good princes do, right? Give commoners better lives? That’s what Mom would say, and you want me to be a prince, right? So this is my duty,} her brother retorted through the side of his mouth.
{Don’t you twist my words on me!}

Adelia watched the two pups, noticing their behavior was as different as night and day. The female seemed defensive, unsure and rightly so . . . She was a stranger, after all, a possible threat and someone who could easily gobble either of them up on a whim. Unlike her father though, Adelia preferred to avoid eating other wolves. . .there was just something . . .off . . . about it. But she'd never defy her father or his wishes.
But the winged pup was a little different. He seemed to be open, receptive to the idea that not just Nawiri join them, but Adelia too. A free meal was tempting, but she would resist. She was her own huntress and didn't trust the food of strangers, much less a pack. Nawiri was young, innocent, foolish. . .
If she got gobbled up by these pups parents, so be it. They could find other pups to infect, to bring in on their family. But if Nawiri was just a friend, a passerby. . . well. . . perhaps they could get some information out of her yet. Infiltrate the lands of another so callously. Adenru would be pleased to hear they spoke to 'royalty' . . .
Hmph.
As if the pups were anything truly grand or epic. At least as far as Adelia were concerned. If they were truly royalty they would be kept on a much shorter leash. Still, she kept her small smile, golden eyes dancing between all three. "I can hunt on my own, thank you. But take the weakling if you insist. . .she won't be missed and a solid meal would do her well." In other words, Adelia didn't like to share and Adenru hated it even more.
Nawiri looked from Adelia, than over to Deviant and Complex. A small part of her understood what Adelia meant - she was unwanted at this point, undesired so removing herself from the elder females presence was a good thing. But, at the same time, she wasn't so blind as to see that Deviant didn't seem thrilled by the idea of her joining them. The way they whispered to each other, while she didn't really hear what they said, something in her gut told her it wasn't entirely positive.
. . . once again, she was getting in someones way. For a pup who was so small, she certainly seemed to do that a lot. Her smile wavered a bit, tail lowering as she glanced shyly up at her new friends. "I . . I don't have to stay long," she reassured, "and I . . I can find my way back here so no one needs to accompany me when it's time to go." She added, hoping that would make her sound much more self-sufficient and useful.
How terrible a thing it would be if her first friends learned to dislike her so soon? She'd never had friends before, and she didn't want to lose Deviant and Complex so soon.

”It’s fiiiiine~” Complex said a little too loudly before his sister could hiss anything more in his ear. []b”Honest! We’re not really good at hunting yet, but I bet we could pester Mom or Dad or someone to nab it for us.” Or maybe they could go group hunting, which sounded so excellent in his head that he grinned once more at seemingly nothing to the others. “We could do all sorts of stuff even. Our family’s a little weirder than most, but we’re all nice. Right, Dee?”
”Weakling”? That lady had called the girl “weakling” and said she “wouldn’t be missed”. What was that supposed to mean? Were they on the run from something? Was Nawiri a slave? And God, that weird feeling only increased the more she stare up at the adult, and so she lowered it with a dark frown. What was up with that? What was the point of instinctual feelings if you couldn’t even tell what they were? Then her brother addressed her pointedly, to which she absentmindedly said, ”Yeah . . .”
Something wasn’t adding up, and it bothered her that she couldn’t figure it out!
”Great! And like I said we’ll make sure she gets back safely. C’mon!” Eagerly he turned and beckoned Nawiri to follow as he traipsed off in what Deviant was quite sure was the wrong direction again. Sighing, she cast Adelia a final probing look before padding along after Complex, barking orders for him to turn more to the right, she totally didn’t recognize that tree he was about to run into.

Nawiri was super excited! This was the first time she was able to leave with friends! And not just any friends, but her two very first friends ever. Deviant and Complex . . . Never had she suspected that today would be the day she would make such colourful friends but was she grateful! And she was even more glad that Adelia was allowing her to leave.
"I promise I won't stay out late, kay, 'Delia?" Nawiri barked over her shoulder, her blue and red eyes glowing with delight. Without waiting for a response, the black and grey pup trotted happily after her winged friend. She was so excited she could barely contain herself! Her tail was wagging about a million miles per hour and she had to resist the urge to bolt in to a run! Instead, she pranced a little bit around both of her friends, making sure not to get in their way, but her joy at being able to accompany them home obvious.
Still, after a few moments she did slow down. Being a bit weaker and frailer than most meant she ran out of energy a lot faster than pups her own age. Still, she tried to not let her sudden fatigue show. Smiling a bit she added shyly, "So you're sure they're not gonna mind? I mean . . . I'm not special and royal like your family. I guess I'm a . . .commoner. But I promise I'll stay out of the way!" She added hastily. Adenru and Adelia were quick to snap and show their displeasure when she got underfoot. Having no family her own, she could only guess Deviant and Complex's family were the same.

Narrowly avoiding collision with one of those trees (honestly, for a wolf that wanted to so badly fly, he was a hazard enough on the ground!), Complex gave Nawiri a goofy grin over his shoulder. “Aww, don’t say things like that! Momma loves to help commoners, and the pack’s pretty chill with outsiders no matter what their status. I mean, we have someone whose job is to, like, clean everything in the dens! Well everyone’s dens I mean, not just ours. He’s kinda quiet, though, and weird. But I like him sortaOOO LOOK, CARDINAL!” he suddenly yipped, flagging his tail as he chased after the bright red blur, ironically in the right direction this time.
This is still a bad idea, Deviant thought sourly, not giving the other pup so much as a passing glance as she was forced to hasten to follow her brother. This isso a bad idea. Nawiri didn’t smell right, she looked tired after just a few minutes of prancing, and that adult she apparently hung around was just creepy. This was all giving her bad vibes, but now there was no stopping stupid Complex, and there was no way she was gonna march the dark pup back to said creepy adult on her own. “You’d better stay out of the way,” she muttered to Nawiri when she was passing her up, keeping her head straight and focused upon the distancing pink blob. “And you better hope you can keep your head down and that Mom’s in a good mood. If she’s not, Daddy gets to escort you out, whether you like it or not.”
There was no need for emphasis at all, but she felt like giving the pup a few anxious thoughts to gnaw on. With that, Deviant trotted along forward, the royal aura almost painfully played up as she let Nawiri eat her dust. Who knew, maybe they’d lose her if they were fast enough, and a lost puppy wouldn’t be their problem.
