████████ PROFILE ❀ ❀ ❀  ❀ General InfoName; Byeon Jae (Be-yon Jay) Origin; Korean Meaning; Shining | Respect Gender; Male ❀Loyalty InfoAllegiance; Legion Path; Captain Weapon; Hand-knives and Short Swords At this point in his life, Jae has very little to offer to the Legion, or the thought of becoming a Captain. The life he has known is what has led him to hope for such power and capability. Confidence over-rides the part of him that has accepted his inability to perform, and is optimistic that he will become a warrior due to his talent in swordplay and basic self defense. ❀AppearanceHair Color; Pale White/Soft Grey ████Hair Style; Short and Ruffled Eye Color; Grey/Off-Blue ████Skin Tone; Light Umber ████Body Type; Well toned, but not muscular. Distinguishing Features: Jae walks with a limp, unable to properly move his left leg after an incident when he went fishing at a young age with his father. Though he remembers the pain, and suffers from bizarre dreams with different scenarios about what may have happened, no one will describe the event. Several small scars mark his left side from hard landings as a kid. He also has a tattoo of 연 (yeon | lotus) on the back on his neck. ❀Personality:the good things in your past... Jae is very superstitious. Since he was young, and he began to have nightmares about the sea, he believed what he saw in dreams to be true and has faith in what his subconscious is trying to tell him. More often than not, this causes him to "follow his gut" rather than listen to the voice of reason. long as I have lungs still breathing... With an undying determination, Jae will do whatever he can to learn all that he can. Though his hotheadedness and rude behavior occasionally gets in the way of this, he believes that the most valuable people are the most educated. Jae has high hopes in all people, and believes that a person is capable of achieving anything that they set their minds to, regardless of their limits. He often draws small designs with characters that read "before we drown," implying for people to learn whatever they can before its too late. At the same time, he believes that learning isn't the only thing, but that a person should do whatever is believed that they cannot. For him, its running or dancing, any sort of motion that heavily requires both feet. everyday the sun shines in my heart... Jae is a little naive when it comes to the true functioning of the world around him. Although he has endured suffering through his leg, he shrugs it off and tends to believe that there is better in people. He thinks of people over society, such as marriage being for love or a job being chosen out of fondness not practicality. Rarely does he think about the second party in a situation, such as his desire to become a soldier - his concern is not the people or the threats he could be fighting, it is the people that he is going to be protecting. can't stop staring in those evil eyes... To Jae, everything is black and white. There is no in-between to good and evil, people are either one or the other. The only people he believes to be grey are the members of his family. Despite being open-minded to the behaviors of people similar to himself, Jae has a difficult time understanding much of anything else. He's very indecisive about what he believes in, but part of that can be blamed on his age. rogues and cads will offer you food and wine... Due to his lack of consciousness of the world around him, Jae is rather ignorant and easily misled. Although he is brash and confident, he is easily pressured into inconvenient situations when called "cowardly" or "scared." Without anyone to help him watch his steps, Jae is easily led into bad situations and ends up making a gratuitous amount of mistakes.

❀Ch'anyom
❀❀❀Relationship: Father
❀❀❀Personality: Ch'anyom is a hard working man who spends most of his time fishing in the hopes of building a home for his family closer to the Imperial City. For generations, his family has run a business within the docks, and he intends for his son to inherit the company as he did, despite Jae's handicap. He is very old fashioned, and does not handle modern perspectives well, and is very conservative and afraid of change.
❀❀❀Likes: Fishing, solitude, extended vacations, long summers, large meals (preferably red meats and cheese), routine, dark colors
❀❀❀Dislikes: The smell of fish, the winter season, Jae's inability to perform, fishing at mid-day, short business days, hostile customers, change
❀❀❀Jae's Opinions: Jae adores his father and wants nothing more than to please him. He hates when his father ignores him or tries to argue that he is wrong or knows better, but hopes to one day be able to handle the business as well as he does. More often than not, he wishes that he could move around in life and keep secrets from his father, but often finds it too difficult to lie to him or disguise what he does.
❀Ae-Cha
❀❀❀Relationship: Mother
❀❀❀Personality: Ae-Cha is a loving and tender woman. She is very soft spoken by nature, and is unemployed. Having raised Jae and experienced one son, she feels that she is capable of bearing more children and is optimistic that they will be as successful as their father. As a child she had wished to grow up and be a performer, but was wed to Ch'anyom by her father's wishes, and speaks nothing of it.
❀❀❀Likes: Gentle colors, the scent of peaches and plums, weak tea, sunrises, her children achieving, reading (though she isn't very experienced)
❀❀❀Dislikes: Gutting fish, the scent of the ocean, the ocean, spicy foods, rebellion, general speech, watching her family argue
❀❀❀Jae's Opinions: Jae adores his mother most days of the week, but is offended by how easily she allows Ch'anyom to order her. Because of Jae's open-mindedness, he finds it difficult to understand how she can love his father despite the arguing.
❀Hwan Dae
❀❀❀Relationship: Betrothed
❀❀❀Personality: Dae is a very light hearted and quiet girl, a little older than half Jae's age. She is a very experienced reader and talented musician, playing the shamisen, although not the woman Jae would fall in love with. She respects her father's decision to wed them, the man having a strong confidence in what the fishing industry is destined to become and believing that she will find herself in a higher wealth in a matter of years. She is very flirtatious and open whenever she and Jae are alone, which quickly makes him uncomfortable. Secretly, she is very dark and cynical, and has a burning hatred of those who do not like her. Though Dae enjoys her regular disposition, she has a determination to discover the personality that she has to possess to convince Jae to happily marry her. He once had a dream, as a very young boy, that he was getting married. The bride wore a white kimono with a long white train and smelt lightly of cherry blossoms, while Dae insists that her kimono will be a faded pink.
❀❀❀Likes: Jae, music, dark tea, singing, the ocean, busy days at market, talkative people, the aspect of marriage, the Eastern Quarter.
❀❀❀Dislikes: Jae's refusal of her, men who do not find her attractive, being denied anything, being considered second best
❀❀❀Jae's Opinions: Jae is absolutely terrified of Dae. He believes that a man and woman should wed because of love, not practicality. Nonetheless, he puts up with her antics to please his father and is moderately disgusted at the thought of marrying her.
❀Yang-gae
❀❀❀Relationship: Sister
❀❀❀Personality: Yang-gae takes after her mother's silent disposition, and is rarely seen by anyone other than the company. She is too young to be attending the academy, and spends most of her time weaving or practicing her script. She is hopeful and optimistic, and very fond of Dae because of how tenderly she treats her, and how polite she is.
❀❀❀Likes: Bright colors, butterflies, painting, birds, playing with Dae's hair, fairy-tales, marriage, soft things, the smell of bread, sweet things, candies
❀❀❀Dislikes: Bitter foods, Jae's negative inputs, cats, fish, cold nights, politics or anything that causes arguments during dinner, loud noises, unexplainable noises, secrets
❀❀❀Jae's Opinions: Yang-gae is nothing short of a perfect little sister as far as Jae is concerned, with the only exception being her undying affection towards Dae. He has the highest hopes that she will grow up to be a successful young woman, and hopes that he can pull their finances up to find her a better husband.

❀❀❀Jae has had a rather uneventful life.
❀❀❀Though, as a child, something bizarre happened. Whilst fishing with his father on an extended trip, Jae was injured and damaged his left leg to the extent that it is unusable. He is capable of walking and basic functions, but has a noticeable limp and is often considered to be a threat to his father's business. Their boat had been demolished after that trip, and Jae suffered from unusual nightmares that kept him awake for years of his life. One of the men at the docks used to whisper to him that what had hurt him had been trying to keep him safe, though nothing more than that had ever been said.
❀❀❀As he got older, and began interacting with other children, Jae was picked on and easily bullied because of his disability. Being bullied generally entailed being knocked to the ground, seeing as he was unable to recover quickly. A few small scars still mark his left side from falling against harder surfaces. When his father and Dae's father had agreed to their marriage, the bullying stopped instantaneously. Their families had equal wealth at the time, but few would dare hurt someone under the power of the Hwan family, which was rumored to deal in the black market.
❀❀❀ When Jae was old enough to carry himself well (roughly at ten) and could function well, he began working with his father. Unable to return to the sea, struck with a stomach churning fear whenever forced to face it, he often assisted his mother in gutting the fish, or would run the stand and apply himself to being the best business man he could be. Because their business is small and family owned, his father often encountered trouble from the men who ran larger ones, and they were often threatened with the destruction of their own, until the Hwan family was brought into play. Their family makes just enough to get by, but protection from the Hwan family keep trouble from arising.
❀❀❀ With time, Jae began to accept the ailment he could not escape, and began to attend the Academy. Once he began to attend the academy, Jae began to consider the idea of abandoning the family business, and training to become a solider or warrior. Being exposed to the thoughts and ideas of others started to put his own emotions and ideas into perspective, knowing that he is supposed to be living his own life, not his fathers.
❀❀❀With the birth of his sister, Jae took the rest of the world into consideration to a heartbeat, then understood that it would be his duty to protect her in the future - to help find her a husband, and to eventually help pay for her wedding along with his father. For the first time in his life, Jae felt the distinguishable urge to help and give as much as he possibly could to another human being.
❀❀❀ As he's grown, he's slowly entered the rebellious phase of his life, a very obvious change after living a meek and nervous life trying to accept his limp. Though, for many years he spent time in the wrong end of the fish-mongering crowd.
❀❀❀ By the time he was fifteen, Jae had already experienced a drunken buzz. He spent most of his time out during the evenings, doing all that he could to educate himself and round out his perspective on the world around him. Due to his natural curiosity, and how easily he was seduced by a young mistress, he ended up with a tattoo on the back of his neck of the Korean character for Lotus, 연 (yeon), a flower representative of unrequited love as well as birth and creation. He wears high collars to prevent the top of the character from being seen, and lives in fear of it eventually being applicable.
