Some users have brought up that sometimes they would like to remove users from a guild (do to inactivity, for example) and that banning is too severe. Given that's the only option right now (and that it has implications on trying to join the guild again - if you are banned, you must be invited to join the guild or be unbanned) we'd like to add a "remove user" option.

Couple questions for you:

- does it make sense to have this feature? smile
- other than inactivity, what activity would make you want to remove users - but NOT ban them?
- we would most probably follow the ban form format (optional reason free form box) for the remove, would it be easier to have a checkbox for "due to inactivity" if that's the most common use case?
- banned users currently get a PM, we would send a PM for the remove as well with the reason.

Hoping to get this fixed during our fixathon!
Thanks smile

I think that one "remove user" feature, with the ability to choose from a handful of reasons would probably be fine(don't know how easy/hard that is to build).

We click on 'remove user", and then we can check off...

1. banned from guild (checking this box bars user from re-joining except by invitation)

2. inactivity

3. other

And a text box so we can add an extra message in if we need to.

______________
off-topic begging...

please move guild announcements back to their own notice bubble - they get totally lost on the My Gaia page

(pretty please with sugar on top)

Well, aside from inactivity it could be used for temporary bans (some guilds use this as punishment, I've noticed), change of guild topic (mostly through sale), and it leaves the option open to join again and seems way less forceful than seeing 'ban' for every occasion.

I agree with the idea of having a check-list for reasons, I feel it would make things easier to have some common reasons to pick from right off the bat.

On a related note, when people ban for activity they often ban in large numbers. Having a multiple-ban list that looks like the invite screen would be nice too, but if a system could be implemented where could remove members on the member list itself, maybe have a check box on the side that would put the names in the removal form, that would also help, but one thing at a time I suppose.

That would be nice. Not to mention, even though I know the member number has to do with when they joined, but being able to see the exact date a member joined would be really helpful as well, when banning for inactivity. Nothing worse than banning someone for being inactive, when they only just joined. sweatdrop

I personally would like to see a blacklist function for Guilds, where putting a member or members on the list keeps them permanently banned and puts anyone who invites them back in on the blacklist as well. I've had to implement this in one or two Guilds in the past due to destructive Crew or regular members who have continued to pop back up like a bad case of acne, and manually banning that person or persons who invite them back is always a hassle.

We can't show date joined - that's why we show userID as you mentioned - it's meant to be used as a proxy. I know it's not ideal, but it's what we have for now neutral

I would love this. I would also love to know if 'ban' has been changed, and if so to what. Actually, I would adore anyone that makes a Gaia announcement when any guild update/change occurs. I'm tired of guessing what changed based on a glitch that occurs, or by just suddenly noticing it one day. The extra exposure of Gaians being reminded that guilds exist wouldn't hurt too.

I don't ban for inactivity, but when the people from the old guild showed up as banned I invited them all and that worked to either get them as members or remove them from the list.

Another reason to use dismissal is for more specific punishment, to nicely slap the person on the wrist, or if there is trouble contacting someone by PMs or profile comments (ie if they are all friends or off) I've learned that a friend request or guild invite (or guild dismissal note) is a way to get into the PM box.

Being able to set up parameters for the ban would be nice, such as duration.

My guild is public and auto accept. I don't know how it used to work or currently does, but what about banning non-members from posting/joining? Is that possible?

To start things off, I would like to say that I agree with the rest of your post, but for the sake of preserving space I truncated it down to the question.

It is my understanding that if you don't want non-members posting in your guild, the 'private' setting would allow them to see the content without being able to post. I don't know much about the auto-accept or ban features and what they entail, but if you set the guild to private and someone joins and causes trouble, you should be able to ban them without a chance for them coming back.

I was referring to the possibility of a non-member being an a** by spamming or posting porn, or anything else against guild or gaia rules. I'd want the guild to stay public, but that one person I'd need to block from posting. I think there used to be away to do a member search, see the 'nonmenber' lable, and still have the option to ban that person.
