A very old planet, Tatooine once was a lucious jungle planet inhabited by the native Kumumgah. At some point, the planet was invaded and taken over by the Rakata, who used the planet for slaves, and as a location for one of their ancient Star Maps. At some point prior to 25,000 BBY, the locals rebelled, pushing off the Rakata. Retribution was swift however, and a massive fleet arrived and decimated the planet with turbolaser fire, fusing the surface into glass.
Thousands of years passed. the glass gradually broke down into a fine sand, forming the Tatooine we know today. The Kumumgah became isolated and seperated by the vast deserts, gradually evolving into two distinct but related species: the Sand People and Jawas.
Today, the planet is nigh inhospital. Life in the desert is harsh, and the entire planet contains only 4% moisture altogether, with an average 1% moisture around the planet. The planet has been colozied several times for one reason or another: mining, criminal hangouts, exotic hunting, trade outposts, etc. Usually, these endeavors fail, although the latest port of Anchorhead, despite some setbacks, has been able to survive.
Neither the Sith nor Republic maintain a large presence on this desolate world. Instead, most of the planet, including Anchorhead, is run by either Czerka Corporation or the Hutt Cartel. The few law-abiding citizens who do live here eek out an existance by farming moisture.
