Comistar looked down at her reflection in the quiet stream. She was a fine mare who had her morals and beliefs. But what happened those couple nights ago proved otherwise. She never would have thought that already she would have a foal—two in fact! And she didn’t think that she’d be one of those mares who went along with one-night stands. It wasn’t the sort of commitment she believed in. She had always thought of falling in love with a stallion and raising foals after they vowed to one another. But life was filled with challenges of all sorts and Comistar wasn’t going to back down. It wasn’t that she regretted that fateful night and becoming pregnant, she just wasn’t sure if she was ready to become a Mother. When giving birth and while the foals were still growing inside her stomach she knew that she would do anything to protect them. Her daughters were beautiful and Comistar would do anything for them. She lowered her head and gently brushed the bottom of her snout against the surface of the water. A quiet chuckle escaped from her vocals and she closed her eyes briefly before taking a drink.
“Momma,” a peppy soft voice rung out. Comistar opened her eyes and glanced down at one of her foals who ever much resembled both parents but with the coloration of her Mother.
“Anacelia. What are you doing up so early? You should get some more sleep,” Comistar said softly. Her daughter paid no attention to her Mother’s sweet voice and moved closer. Anacelia stood beside Comistar and rubbed her side against her Mother’s foreleg before walking underneath her and looking down at the water. “I couldn’t sleep,” she finally said. Comistar laughed softly and rolled her eyes.
“Well let us see if everyone is awake,” Comistar stepped away then back towards the little resting spot that wasn’t all that far from the stream. Anacelia nodded her head and trotted along her Mother’s side.

At first Nitrous had been disgusted with himself. Not only had he gone against his beliefs and had a one night stand, but that one night stand had left the mare pregnant. He had felt nothing against the mare; after all, it wasn't her fault that she was expecting foals. If anything he felt guilt for putting her in that predicament. No, his anger and disgust had been directed at himself. He believed that he had become exactly like his mother and sister, seeking a good time without any thought of the consequences. It must have been in his blood.
Then he met his foals. Two sweet, beautiful, innocent little fillies that filled him with warmth and love. Right then and there he knew he was different after all. There was no way he could abandon them, like his mother had abandoned him. He would stand by and help them grow up like a proper father. The decision made him feel at peace once again.
A small nudge brought him back to earth. He looked down and met his daughter's smiling face.
"Dad, were you dreaming with your eyes open?" Zahra said, nudging him again. Nitrous realized that she had been standing there for some time.
He grinned and got to his hoofs, nipping at her soft mane. "You bet! I was dreaming of tossing you in the river," he replied with a laugh.
"Nuh-uh! I'll run away so fast you won't catch me," The filly said with a frown, then she paused, her ears swiveling. Suddenly her face lit up and she bounded a short distance away. Nitrous watched her, listening too. It sounded like someone was coming their way...
"Momma!"

Anacelia trotted forwards with her head bobbing up and down as she whinnied at the sight of her sister. Her nostrils flared as she snorted and lowered her head to the side a bit, picking up her pace to a very clumsy canter. She neighed softly as she bounded closer towards both her Father and sibling. The young filly picked up her head and flicked her tail as she stretched out her neck towards Zahra and nudged her gently with the end of her snout. “Sissy!” she chanted out and nudged her again with a gentle friendly touch. Anacelia laughed loudly as she trotted around Zahra’s body and kept ‘poking’ her with the end of her snout. “Been hiding from me? I found you, I found you!” she cheered in a playful proud manner.
Comistar chuckled as she stepped out from the brush. She smiled brightly as she looked down to Anacelia and Zahra play with one another. The two had brought warmth and a sense of youth to the mare. Of course before giving birth, she never would’ve found herself being pregnant so soon. But life was always filled with unexpected moments and Comistar knew that she would never give her foals up for anything. She had a duty now to protect and love them.
“Daddy!” Anacelia changed her route to Nitrous. She trotted over to him then and stood beside him for a brief moment. This did not go unnoticed by Comistar and she found herself staring at the stallion that had helped birth the two fillies. The smile blossomed on her lips as she looked at him. Not once had he left her to tend to their daughters by herself. Instead he stayed and Comistar was very grateful for that.
“Something wrong, Daddy?” Anacelia asked Nitrous, cocking her head to the side a bit with big curious eyes though the smile never leaving her lips. Comistar stepped towards Zahra and gently nudged her before tugging on her daughter’s mane playfully. She laughed, raising her head and smiling down at her daughter.

"Noo... I've been playing with daddy! I wasn't hiding!" Zahra squeaked indignantly at her sister. She was happy to see Anacelia, of course... But why did she keep poking and prodding at her! It didn't hurt but it was starting to get annoying! She retaliated by poking her sister back, giggling.
Then Comistar joined them, and playfully tugged her short mane. Zahra squealed excitedly and started prancing around her mother's legs. "Momma! Play with us, momma!" She started to nudge her legs just as Anacelia had nudged her moments before.
Nitrous looked over at Comistar and grinned. She was a gorgeous mare, he had to admit, and she was a good mother. If anything he felt lucky that she was the one who carried his foals. He felt as if things were well between them, despite their unexpected family.
"Not anymore!" He said, putting enthusiasm behind his words as he reached down and blew softly on Anacelia's neck to tickle her. "Now that you are here." He moved to nuzzle her mane gently and then raised his head again to look at her.

Anacelia giggled in delight as her father blew softly into her neck and then nuzzled into her short stubby mane. She looked up to him, stretching out her neck and nipped playfully at is mane. Laughter escaped from her vocals as she bucked out her hind legs and then pranced around him. She did the same to his tail, bucked out her legs and trotted around the stallion with laughter pouring from her vocals.
Comistar smiled softly and chuckled as Zahra nudged at her legs. She dipped her head down and gently bumped the end of her snout against her daughter’s neck. “Alright, alright. You win,” she licked Zahra’s muzzle. Comistar raised her head and looked as Anacelia circled Nitrous. The smile blossoming on her lips as she looked at the stallion whom she was so grateful hadn’t left the family.
Anacelia paused for a brief moment to catch her breath. She breathed deeply, but with a playful grin on her lips. Her nostrils flared as she pranced to Zahra and poked her again. “You’re it!” she chanted out with a little child’s squeal. She giggled and began to run away, running out in front of Comistar and then hurrying to her father.
She looked over Nitrous’s side as her sister. “YOU CAN’T CATCH ME!’ she shouted out. Anacelia giggled, turning around and then running off but staying close within sight of her parents.
Comistar’s eyes furrowed, stepping forwards as Anacelia bounded away. She could still see her daughter, but still feared, as she wasn’t that close to her side. A heavy sigh escaped from her vocals as she shook her head. There was probably nothing to worry about.
