Ivy lay calmly under a tree her small body still tired from the constant strain she had put it under sense the pups birth. She has worked tirelessly to keep as many alive as she could. It had paid off as well, they had lost only three for that she was grateful.
She had been blessed with three healthy and strong pups that were very smart and just the cutest little angels. Though it seemed their father wasn't of the same opinion. He hated himself so, hated his genes so and because of that his eyes seemed to over look their youngest daughter and would only occasionally stop on their eldest.
She felt her heart clench at that. They were all beautiful pups, they were each unique and special in their own little way. She wished she could show Edgar this, and show him just how special he really was. Though he didn't seem to want to listen to her or even care that she felt that way. He was so caught up in his self loathing and his scheming... she gave a soft sigh and laid her head on her paws watching her pups at play in the little glade she had picked out for them this day.
Perhaps if she was really lucky things would get better from here. She did not want to have to fight Edgar on this, but she wouldn't hesitate for her pups. Aristo had, had a hectic morning. His mother had seemed to be worried about something, something he didn't understand but she would from time to time look at their father with sad longing. Which Aristo didn't understand because as far as he knew their father was a good good wolf. The best wolf ever and always treated him with such kindness it was impossible for him to be anything but spectacular in his eyes.
As such Aristo now lay on his side in the grass looking at the trees with a sort of befuddled look. He wanted to understand what was going on even though he really couldn't. He was far to young to really understand and he knew that but it didn't stop him from wanting to make everything ok between mommy and daddy.
He just wasn't sure how to go about it. He sort of wanted to stop thinking and play but he didn't know where his sisters were at the moment and thus it left him with nothing to do but just lay there and think... he could go attack mother... He lifted his head to look at her. She looked tired and perhaps a bit sad. He chuffed and laid his head back down in the grass a small pup sound of discontentment sounding from his maw. Seems he would just have to wait.

Six. There could have been six damn things to pick from, but the most she could manage was half of that. Wench. Alone or not, it was not as if they were in failing health (Edgar considered his constant state of numbness and half-pain as "normal"), nor was prey particularly hard to find. Obviously it was Ivy's fault more didn't survive, and it was that and the result of those that did which had pulled him away from them for right now.
Apparently even beauty couldn't be relied on either, for the best in appearances as far as he was concerned was the beautiful brown one, but that was marred by her overgrown teeth; he clicked his own together frustratedly. The middle-born he barely could look at with her blinding red and her wormtail wriggling with anticipation anytime he was near, like he would bite her at a moment's notice.
Smart girl. And that was the only compliment he would ever give her.
Lamentably, he had only one son, but at least he had one at all - even if he was, well . . . not to his expectations aesthetically. But he had an eagerness that pleased his father and potential yet. All it would need is patience to see a prince out of Aristo yet. But babysteps, Edgar told himself, babysteps . . . First, he needed to return to Gomorrah with them in tow. Away from his . . . family (Was that right? The word sounded forced), he took a sip from the river, turned, and began to meander his way back to where Ivy and the spawn laid. x x x At her mother's side was the middle child, Holly - or "Wormtail" as her father sometimes called her, on those days he deigned to. Since birth she had felt a lingering animosity emanating from Edgar, and for the life of her she didn't know why. Mama said not to worry about it, that he was just normally like that and that she hadn't done anything wrong. So how come she felt she did . . . ? Stirring from her nap, the rat-tailed girl yawned softly and nuzzled up to her mother's side, sleepily opening one eye to find that her brother was also lying down, either about to take a nap himself or looking very bored.
Daddy said never to make the prince unhappy or let it be so, so immediately Holly roused herself and gave Ivy a quick nuzzle. "Afternoon!" she yipped, coming up to Aristo while trying to keep her tail tucked between her legs so he wouldn't have to look at it. "D-Did you need something?"

A slight rustle of grass brought a small brown ear back, swiveling automatically as Briar chewed quietly on a long stick, scraping her over-large front teeth against it in the rough, methodical manner that the last week had perfected. She twitched her ear dismissively as the squirrel that had drawn her attention scooted up a tree and left her to her business.
With a soft sigh, the little pup shook her head and closed her mouth, trying to feel if any difference had been made yet. She was certain if she just kept scraping these teeth over logs and other things, she could file them down enough that she'd look a bit more like her pretty mother.
It wasn't that Briar disliked her father - quite the contrary, she loved him to absolute pieces and wanted him to love her too. But she was a smart little pup and had picked up on her mother's sadness and the way her father ignored Holly and made fun of her cute little tail that was just like his. So she had a feeling he probably didn't like the teeth on Briar that made her look like him. Personally she loved her teeth, but if her father didn't like them, then they had to go. That's what she had decided, anyway.
Easier said then done though.
With a disappointed growl, she kicked the branch away from her and made her way back into the clearing where her mother and siblings were. Wordlessly, Briar flopped down near her mother's belly and huffed, drooping the tips of her ears as she tried to some up with some other way to make her teeth smaller.

Ivy's head lifted from her paws to look down at Briar as she came to flop down next to her. Her ears twitching forward and making the flower there shift slightly. "Briar? What is it dear? You look a touch exasperated." She commented softly leaning down to lick her pups head lightly. Briar had come to take over her sister's spot who had upon waking run over to Aristo. Ivy watched them carefully for a moment making sure things were well before looking back down at Briar giving her eldest daughter her full attention.
Aristo's head lifted and he scrambled into a sitting position as his sister came over to him. "Hey Holly." He said mildly watching the way she tried to hide her tail with a mildly confused look. "Not really I suppose. I was just bored and trying to figure out why mom is so sad. What about yourself? Aside from just waking up from a nap next to mom." He commented albeit dryly. Mother had seemed to shower his sister with lots of love. Now while he understood that his sister wasn't often... if ever looked at by their father and he was he sort of felt a bit cheated. Not that he really had time to think on that. He knew mom was just trying to make up for the lack of love daddy gave Holly. As such he pulled a smile onto his maw and perked his ears forward. "Entertain me?" He asked sweetly.

It didn't take him much time to relocate them. Amongst the regular patches of the woods, Ivy's sweet scent was easy to identify - that, and the accursed middle-born wasn't exactly camouflaged against greens. Whiskers twitching as his maw soured into a sneer, Edgar announced his presence only seconds before he made it into the clearing, via a grumbling in his throat. Pleasantly enough the whelp was doing her best to hide her tail, and he had heard she was already beginning to grow complacent to Aristo's needs, hyperaware of her father's rules. Barely giving Ivy and Briar a passing glance, he said, "We're leaving for Gomorrah now."
There was no room for argument in his tone. Already he was swiveling his head to view Briar plopped beside her mother. "Get up, both of you! There's too little daylight to waste."
Holly barely had time to so much as acknowledge Briar trumbling back from some minor adventure or suggest a game to her brother before she heard that familiar, terrible noise: Daddy was home again. Wincing, she darted behind Aristo and ducked her head just as the overgrown rat came into view, quivering. Now? What's a Gomorrah? Holly thought, knowing better than to so much as squeak now that Edgar was speaking.
