Caffienated

PostPosted: Wed Mar 23, 2005 5:17 pm

I've got a great cat. His name is Caffiene, he's a former feral. He hates bright lights, loud sounds, is scared by people (if he doesn't know/trust them), likes routines, and gets upset when things are 'different'. Heh, the place I got him from was saying "Well, he...has behavioral issues" but he licked my nose when the lady said "want to look at other cats?" so I decided to take him. I feel a special kinship with him. He is grey and white and has a collar with his name and rabies tag even though he doesn't go outside. His favorite toy is a shoelace. He likes to chase it. Did you know cats have over 30 whiskers? My cat doesn't like cold water, he likes it room temperature. He used to not talk, the people said, but now he does. The place I got him from is called "Petsmart" and the group was "Cat Rescue". Opps. I'm babbling. Anyways, he's my best friend nad the main suicide prevention I have. It sounds strange, but I worry if I was to die, who would make him happy?

I understand completely. For a while, my doggie was the only thing keeping me alive. He is a rescue dog who was beaten when he was a puppy, so he's a biter. I stayed alive for a while just because I know he'd never get a home if I were dead.

I don't know. I love my cat, but there are times where I just feel like punting her out the window. I'm serious.

I think people benefit from dogs more. People love the shallow affection that dogs bring. That, and they're always happy. And you can teach them tricks to show progress. You develop something, rather than having a cat or fish, which sits there.

exotic pets are cool though.

I know what you mean, Caffienated. I used to feel the same way about my cat, Socks, before he passed away. It was really rough for me at first, worse than when my grandfather died, even. I'm ok now, though.

I think it's up to personal preference, really.

I prefer cats because they suit me better. Dogs are great too, but sometimes they just annoy the heck out of me. I feel like the dog will love anyone unconditionally, but with a cat you often have to earn respect and affection. Cats are also less inclined to rub their noses all over you, and be overwhelmingly hyperactive. I tend to need an animal that I can just "chill out" with.

I definitely prefer cats. Rubbing wet noses across my arm all the time is not attractive. (I have two dogs and three cats) So, I definitely know how annoying dogs can be. But, I know how anoying cats can be too. Especially when they don't like other cats or dogs, so they end up hissing all the time, and the other two just sit there and meow for no reason. That's annoying when trying to sleep....

I'm definitely more of a doggie person. I have an ickle Jack Russel Terrier/Daschound cross and I find that she makes me so much happier. I love looking after her and having her follow me wherever I go...I dunno, having a little animal so dependant on me just make me feel so much more important and like I actually have a reason to live in this world.

I've never been able to have pets for very long. I get them and jsut as I start to really love them, we have to move to a place that doesn't allow them.

I've had a rabbit, a guinea pig and a bearded dragon(lizard).

Personally, I like reptiles best.

Actually, I'm saving up for a cage and light fixture and such so that I can get another Bearded Dragon. They are the coolest lizards ever. whee

And I think that in terms of psychosis, that my symptoms decrease in severity when I'm around animals. Reptiles, anyway. Mammals, fish, birds and the like usually just stress me out.

Too true. My reason for life, or it was before I got mostly sane again.

@.@ I have two dogs and three cats! ...weird... and your cats sound exactly like mine! The boys meow at me, and the girl is grumpy especially with the dogs. she HATES them. I LOVE my kitties. One of them comes when he's called, and is a complete angel--bump-head cat, sits (and sleeps) on your lap, loud purr, kneads paws...the whole thing. The girl kitty comes home when I tell ehr two...like, if I'll get home at four, I'll ask her to be home by four, and she will be. The oldest kitty (9 years) doesn't really listen to me, but he's more my father's cat, so...

it's my sister's dog's birthday! My puppy's only about 4.5 months, though... she is SO much better trained. *loves puppy more, though feels kind of bad about it*

Pets definately help me with my life.

Before I got my aquariums, I had two dogs, but they still didn't get me out and about to do things or to really even get up to take care of MYSELF. I just took care of my dogs, loved them, then went back to bed.

I had a 30 gallon tank and I had bought two oscars, one albino tiger oscar and one tiger oscar and one pleco (i call them sucker fish).
Well they got around five months old *they are now seven months old* and the white oscar kept beating up the black oscar and almost killed it. So I had to get rid of it but I gave it to my best friend so I still get to see it.
I got a 55 gallon tank that I now have my albino tiger oscar in ^_^ These fish are AWESOME. You can TRAIN them. They're quite wonderful.
Anyway, i have four seperate half gallon tanks. Each of them had a betta inside. I was planning on breeding bettas but I just can't seem to do it. I have normal, or standard breed bettas. But since my favorite male just died I think I'm going to either get a crown or royal betta.

Oscars: Common, Albino Tiger, Tiger, Red

Sucker Fish

Bettas!

MY LIFE! POMERANIANS! Sorry I don't have a pic of MY pomeranian yet, I'm still saving for a webcamera

When a pet dies, do you think it could do you more harm than the good of having the pet in the first place? For those of you who suffer from depressive symptoms, how do you deal with the loss?
