Introduction. - Welcome to the "packlands". This is the RP thread for Hige's troupe, south-bound for the shores of the sea. Feel free to read through, but please mind these rules during your stay!

----------------------------

User Image

Rules.

No non-member posting. Please refrain from posting unless you are a member of this pack, or have been given permission/added to the list.

No Godmodding. This is a general rule of RP, please don't auto anyone's actions unless given written permission.

No Harrassment. Anyone found asking for ownership of ANY of these wolves will be reported to the shop.

Give Notice. This isn't really a rule, so much as a request. If you need to take sudden or planned leave for an extended period of time, please just make a quick OOC post so we know what's going on. We understand if it's not an option, and hope it won't be an issue. Please let us know as soon as you're able!

Carry Over. This means that all the rules that apply to the main shop thread [link] also apply here. See the rule below for further question.

Be Warned. If you enter this thread without permission you are endangering your character's safety, should you become a threat. Please avoid un-needed confrontations.

Pack Stats. - We'll do our best to keep accurate counts and records here. Growths, ranks, new litters, den site counts, and prey-to-predator ratios will be listed in this post.

----------------------------

Pack Ranking. - Ranking has been determined! Now that positions are established you may PM this account if you wish for a different rank, but it must be backed by "RP-Proof". This means that we will not just change your wolf from gamma to omega, Jade and Rei are going to want to see RP that supports the change. No ranking is permanent, alphas are semi-permanent [See the front page of the shop for specification].
* By default all adults will be ranked as gammas.

Ranks:
Alphas: Alphas serve as the leaders within the pack. They usually come in a pair, but may sometimes consist of just one wolf if no other suitable wolf steps up to the task. They are the most dominant. 90% of the time one of the alpha's offspring will be choosen as heir to take over in the alpha's footsteps. Challenges for this rank will very rarely be accepted [We started this pack for a reason, ya know xD;;], and must be approved via Tahja and Stormy.

Betas: This rank is filled by the alphas choice for second in command. The position will always go to the closest wolves to the alpha pair. This rank will only change when the alphas decide or when new alphas step up to take over. There may be anywhere from one to three or four beta if it is so seen fit, but most often it will be limited to two. The beta do not have to be mated together to fill this position.

Gamma: Gammas are the third down the line in rank and dominance. They make up a majority of the pack, as there can be any number of them.

    Delta:

    Youth:

    Omega:

    Shaman:

    Seer:

----------------------------

Pack Jobs. -

Jobs:
Leader: These wolves are usually the alpha and beta pairs. They hold the authority to issue direction to the pack in a broad spectrum, while the second-in-commands hold the authority to see those orders executed. There may be subclasses of leaders, such as one or two wolves within a group of hunters that may be put in charge if they show a particular amount of skill in one area.

Ambassador: These wolves speak on behalf of the pack. They're the ones that you'll hear of being sent here and there amongst ally packs and the freelands to recruit new wolves, establish diplomatic relations, alliances, and to gain a general understanding of the current status of things.

Advisor: These wolves are highly trusted amongst the alphas and betas for one reason or another. They have life-experience and level-heads, making their views, opinions, and advice invaluable. They may be consulted in major decision making, such as the well being of the pack, hunting strategies, and matters concerning allies and enemies.

Hunter: These wolves play a very key role in the pack. They provide substinance for all, but may also double as defense from intruders in some cases. Hunters are mostly ranked from alpha down to adolescents (who are learning the ways of adulthood). There may be one or several elected wolves to serve as leaders on group hunts. The leaders should be able to get along well and are expected to strategize together in the event that they need to work together in the same group, on the same hunt, to avoid confusion.

Scout: These wolves also play a key role within the pack. They not only patrol the borders for signs of intrusion, but also are considered the messengers of the pack. They may be sent out to gather information on other packs territorial-status, herd-movements, changes in the weather, and going on's among allies. They rank from gammas to omegas.

Elder: These wolves are too old to offer much physical aide, such as in hunting or scouting. They are looked after, as the pack has high held respect for the more seasoned members of their kind. They have feeding privledges along with pups, and are not expected to do much more than pupsit, storytell, and perhaps advise.

Storyteller: Needless to say this position is for those with sharp memory. The storytellers may keep a mental/verbal record of all that happens in the pack's history. They may also be more like fable-weavers.

Babysitter: When the pack has youth (Adolescents and pups) in their numbers these wolves are expected to help in looking after them. It varies on a case by case basis. Babysitters may rank from alpha to omega.

Council: This position is reserved for those with the mystic ability of seer or shaman.

Pack Lands. - Images of the pack's territory can be found here, courtesy of Jestari, who was so kind as to take a random comission from me. :3 If you want to add a particular area or landmark to the territory, give this account a PM and we'll try to get it added.

-------------

Territory.Map. The borders of the freelands lay North, a 4-6 day travel for a wolf moving at a moderate pace. The closest neighboring pack belongs to Devvyl and Selia, Hige's adopted parents. It's a 2-3 day travel from the Seaside pack-lands to our Allies pack-lands. Please PM the Pack account [Hige x Loki] to have your densite or suggested lookout points added or moved on the map.
*Note: Map will be updated as frequently as possible.
*Note2: Some images from Steven Pinker

Landmarks. A collection of photograph images to give a better feel for the lay of the land. We'll have densite artwork up shortly. If you'd like to add a minor landmark please PM the pack-account, also any photographs you can provide would be most useful.

Seaside. The landmark that the pack has been named after: The sea. Vast and rich with sights and sounds, the seaside is an excellent resting spot for the wolves, especially during the hot months when those with thicker coats such as Hige and Thayne will find the water's edge to be most refreshing. There are dunes with tall grasses for pups to take shelter in for games of hide-and-seek, and among other things the view can be quite soothing. Just don't drink the water!

Rivers. Water is in high abundance in these lands, and though the ocean's are undrinkable, there are many other sources that one can find in abundance through-out the land.

There lies a wide river that travels alongside of the mountains. It is a rather dormant looking beast, almost more like an ongoing lake. It's waters are calm, but also deep, and houses the path that the fish swim to return to the ocean for spawning. The river is joined by a small stream to the west of it's tree-lined banks. The stream is an excellent fishing location during migration-season.

On the east of the river there is a cave at the foot of the center of the mountains. This cave is an excellent shelter and hiding place, as it burrows deeply under the mountains and leads away to a hidden cavern whose walls echo with the music the rock-pools create from within.

Mountains. The mighty guardians that lay East: these snow-capped landmarks were once the home of Hige, and still are to many other wolves. They provide a constant source of water as the snowcaps melt and trickle down into streams that carve through the lands to join the sea.

The South side of the mountains form trecherous cliffs not suitable for living, even if one could get to them. The North and West side of the mountains are surrounded by forest. A cave rests near the center of the West base, most likely an abandoned den. It has not yet been explored.

Cliffs. The mountains and the sea meet as well. On the far south-east end of the pack's territory there is a gravel-ridden strip of beach, where pebbles and bits of mountain were gradually worn away and fell to the earth and sea below. This area is dangerous during storms and high tide.

[[ In hopes that everyone will get together and get to know each other and whee. stare On a sidenote, all these little pitiful donation wolves are just too damn adorable. ]]

Limping slightly, the South Seaside beta male headed down the slope toward his brother's den. His shoulder was healing slowly, but it was closed now. His mate, Tony, was asleep back at his own home; he had told her where he was going before he left and been informed that she would join him later. After a nap. He'd laughed and trotted off. Thayne was grateful she had stayed behind a while. He suspected she knew why he was coming to see Hige and was staying behind a-purpose. She was a blessing.

In any case, the few times Hige had been around, he'd been different. Aloof and preoccupied, like something in the air was distracting him. He would stare off into space for long moments, not paying attention to the conversation. It wasn't like Hige at all.

Coming up on the densite, Thayne woofed his arrival softly, sniffing the air. The breath he took was a shock: so many new scents! Who were these new wolves and how could he have missed them? He'd only been secluded for a few days, maybe a week, waiting for his shoulder to heal...
Stars, a lot had happened that he didn't know about! His ears drooped as guilt twinged in his chest for being such an uninformed beta. Hige would fill him in, hopefully.

He woofed again as he came closer to the den. "Hige?"

((*tries to help rustle up some attention*))

Hige was lying outside of the den, a yard behind it's entrance. Her scent was still strong inside and it was slowly driving him further into depression the fainter it grew as the hours passed into days. Hige was at a loss for what to do after having found no trace of her in the freelands. Wherever she'd gone, she was long gone by now.

Meanwhile, Hige felt like he was shaping out to be a pathetic alpha, sulking here like he was. Granted the pack had many different members, but nothing felt.... organized? Official? It was no surprise that more than half the members didn't meet Loki, in fact, of the 17 other wolves there only Hige, Thayne, and Tatiana knew who she was. In a way Hige was embarassed by this. A pack with only one alpha bothering to show up.

As it was, Hige intended to fill Thayne in on things (especially with wolves strolling in and joining damn near one after another and often in sets of two or higher), but just hadn't gotten the gumption to yet. Anytime the two tried to talk the alpha found himself unable to pool his thoughts together enough to give his full attention.

Today Hige was quite grateful for an "interruption" in his thoughts. Thayne's voice was more than welcomed. The alpha had seen him but three times in the passing few days, the first time with food, the second time he tried to bring food but Thayne's mate kindly declined and offered to hunt for them herself (She was well spoken and confident for an omega. Hige couldn't see her keeping the rank for long), and the third was just a check up visit.

Dull dust-brown ears lifted as did Hige's head from his paws, then his weight from the ground, giving his coat a shake to clear his fur before trotting forward to greet the Seaside beta-male.

"Right here, Thayne." His eyes gave Thayne's shoulder an immediate and instinctive glance over, however casual about it. He was thankful that Thayne had such an attentive and helpful mate to help him along as he got better...

Tat had been spending a lot of her time with Kovu ever since the two of them had officially become mates. The mahogany male was everything that Tat could want in a mate with his teddy-bear looks, drive for thrills and his love. The only thing that was slightly annoying was his protectiveness but it was a trait that the white and black femme was beginning to get use to and accept. It actually caused her heart to swell at the thought that Kovu protected her from other males. It meant he truly loved her and Tat really could not think of any other way that she would want it.

Despite being with Kovu much of the time Tat hadn't shirked off her other duties as Beta female. During her outings she had noticed that her father was far from being himself. In fact, he looked very depresssed and despite his efforts to look happy and gleeful Tatiana could see the sad look in his eyes. It hurt her to see him in such a state. So, in hopes of cheering him up and helping him getting over mother's dissapearance Tat trudged from her den to her fathers.

As she neared her father's densite the sound of voices reached her ears and she couldn't help but sigh in relief to hear Thayne speaking with Hige. I was certinally a welcoming thought to know that the two were still close and that Thayne worried about the Alpha. It was evident in many of the pack members that Hige was loved and worried about.

Not wanting to interrupt anything Tat yipped softly before pushing through the brush that clocked her from view. "Hey Daddy, Thanye." She walked up to the Alpha and rubbed her head against his neck in greeting before stepping away and sitting upon the cold hard ground.

[[ Ko, Tatiana looks really good as a beta. domokun ]]

Thayne wagged his tail at Tatiana's appearance before rubbing on the alpha himself in affectionate greeting. The smell of his brother shocked him -- depression, confusion, loss -- but he kept it to himself. He didn't miss Hige's onceover either, but he kept that, also, to himself. Except that with only the three of them here, Hige was no longer his alpha. Just his brother. Tatiana's father.

He hated being out of the loop, farther than he had imagined.

The pack, for the moment, could wait. His brother could not.

He sat back, a little stiffly, on his haunches and fixed Hige with a compassionate, no-nonense stare. His ears were perked forward, his spine rigid, all of these things telling his brother he was sorely concerned. "Tell me, Hige." Talk t' me, brother, he said silently.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 25, 2006 1:50 pm

His beta, two of the closest wolves (if not the closest) to him, as close as any family related by blood could be. A lick or a firm nudge is what they each recieved in return tokens of affection. Hige couldn't possibly miss the concern they were both expressing, even if just by being there. For a few moments he had no idea what to say to keep a normal front going, but then Thayne sat himself down and looked Hige square in the eye-- commanding the mountain wolf's attention --and gently commanded Hige to bare all.

What more could Hige do than comply?

His body gave something like a weary shudder, as if only now being permitted to show how very affected he was. He slumped forward some and slid to lie down as his front legs slowly gave out from under his weight. All that really needed to be said was:

"Loki is gone."

(I know! She's smexy as a beta. XD)

"Oh, daddy." Tat furrowed her brows and moved again to Hige's side this time she didn't leave and laid herself next to him her body pressing into his. She could only hope that it was some sort of comfort for her father but the pain that he had to feel from the loss of Loki was something that Tat was sure was overwhelming. Just the thought of Kovu leaving made Tat's heart tear. No, to have a loved one gone, a mate none the less, had to be tragic.

"She is really gone? No trace of her can be found?" Tat laid her head on Hige's shoulder and nuzzled her maw against his warm fur. She didn't know what else to do. Hige, right now, was completely different from the wolf she called father. He had always been light-hearted and jovial and now he was mellow and depressed. It was heartbreaking.

Gone.

It didn't make any sense. Gone? Just up and gone? No idea where she was, might be, could have been?

Suck it up, Thayne. No sense in makin' 'im feel any worse about it than he does.

"Stars, brother," he murmured as he lay down facing his sandy kin, their toes barely touching. He hated to ask, but from the look of things, Hige was in little shape to figure things out on his own, and little wonder. Thayne knew he would be in less of a humor to do anything himself, were Tony to up and leave him. He tried to be as gentle as possible, not wanting to put any more burden on Hige than the alpha already had. "What can we do?"

'ow long? Why? What happened? What was she thinkin'?

Hige lay there on the cold ground for some time in silence just listening to the other two, and then the sounds of the forest around them, and the sea much further off.

What was there, really, to be done? Loki left of her own choice, and did a very good job masking the trail. Hige had not scented any others, knowing that SOMEONE would have noticed if one of their own had been kidnapped. It was just like Balan, except when Balan disappeared it was along with a female's scent. Had Loki, perhaps, just gotten tired of things as they were? Had she recalled something from her past and decided to move on?

"No trace. Her scent disappears at the river, and there are no strangers scents in the area. She left of her own free will."

((Sorry for the delay guys, >.<;; had no idea how Hige should answer for a long time.))
PostPosted: Fri Feb 17, 2006 4:26 pm

Thayne watched his brother muddle things over in his head. He swore he could see the wheels turning, smoking, in Hige's skull through the troubled eyes. He nudged Hige lightly, a brotherly show of affection instead of a beta's worry for his alpha. "Hige. What can we do?" Really, it was What can we do fer y'? The pack, as he had thought before, could wait.

As it was, however, thoughts were still flowing through the back of his mind, plans and contingencies. He and Tatiana were betas for a reason -- this being one of those very reasons, perhaps. They could direct the pack while Hige recovered. Maybe they would even manage to get the time together to find Loki, if it came down to it...

Later. The future could hold many things. He would wait for them.
