I noticed a couple of members here are in the UK, and was wondering - are any of you able to get Disability Living Allowance, due to your mental health issues?
I'm currently on incapacity benefit, re-applying for the DLA... I've been refused once already sad I have a hard time getting doctors to believe how serious it is, so was just wondering if anybody else has had any luck..?

I don't know about the UK, but here in the states, one usually has to apply for Disability several times before one is successful in getting it.

Rei ojou-sama what do you have? Why do you think you need it? I don't know what I have. I'm currently waiting to be seen by a team of psychiatrists on the NHS. But I'm dependant on somebody else to basically act in position of "carer", 24/7 at the moment, and I want to be able to have her recognised as a carer, so that she can get Carer's Allowance. She can't work while she's looking after me. Carer's Allowance would give her a little extra money. But she can't get that, unless the government recognises that I need the care she's giving me, and registers me as temporarily disabled.

You might find this helpful.
I can't offer any advice from a personal perspective I'm afraid. You could try getting your carer to speak to your doctors if you haven't done already. A second opinion is always beneficial. Do you have a GP, CPN or counsellor who could help fight your corner?

Thanks for that link. I'm hoping that my new doctor will be able to help me out, and that the psychologists who are getting on my case now will help back me up...

i know in the us its hard toget it and you go through lot of refusals, though because ofmy arrest and being thrown in the hospital for it i got it on my first try..still took 7 months. Good luck with taht they make it a b***h evywhere i think

My disability allowance just started this month. I didn't realize it was that tough in other places, that's so stupid that everyone has to apply over and over again. I live in British Columbia, Canada, and my application process wasn't very difficult, except for being difficult in a emotional way in writing about my problems, and didn't take very long at all. My application proccess was like:
1. I have a appointment with a social worker, refered by my psychiatrist, who gives me a form.
2. I fill out my part of the form, psychiatrist and therapist fill out the other two parts.
3. Mailed it off.
4. Got my acceptance letter. Most people say it takes about 4-6 weeks for it to arrive but I got mine in a week.
I guess part of it is differences in individual cases, but if you have a real problem and someone else can confirm that it shouldn't be THAT hard...
