Lorina :: *takes a few steps on the spongy green ground, an almost-smile escaping. the snow was gone, and now the sources of water were exposed and readily sniffed out*
Eigengrau: *UPSET and lets Kherty know it, staying curled up moping in his thicket*
Kherty: *even though he knows fawns should be out playing and whatnot, Kherty makes no move to rouse Eigengrau, not wanting to let the brat win by showing concern and simply enjoys his me time. sorta. still stands beside the thicket like a dutiful butler-father* ............! *spots a familiar hind and steps forward before remembering himself.* ... *straightens up, hoping Eigengrau didn't see--oh damn it*
Eigengrau: *pops his head out of the thicket, accusing glare* I saw! You're trying to leave me! Well I don't want you as a--*wait what he spots Lorina and blinks in shock, before completely popping out of the bushes all anger forgotten* That's her right? It's like you said! Mother! :D *dashes towards Lorina, apparently having learned nothing from yesterday's encounter*
Kherty: *ALL OF MY RAGE just stares after Egeingrau, wishing he had never said anything and wondering why, just why* ...... *suppressing a sigh, he slowly follows, dread growing with every step*
Lorina :: *pauses, hearing a child scream mother, only to flick her ears back when she realizes the child is coming toward her. why??? she takes a few steps back, confused* "Fawn, I am pretty certain I am not your mother..." *flicks her ears back up, listening for a parent to claim him when she smells a familiar smell... That hart from before! *
Eigengrau: *as he nears Lorina, Eigengrau slows, halting in front of her. he blinks up at the hind, confused as to why she would say such a thing. was he rude again, is that why she didn't want to be his mother? she has to be, they have swirly hair! and she's a pretty color, his favorite in fact, all of his adults have been blue... sure she may not have a cloud for a tail, but she's still so pretty!* ...;_; Kherty, did I mess up again?
Kherty: *his mouth twists into a silent snarl but nope he's not mad or anything Kherty doesn't get mad! nope, all cool, he's got this* Yes. You did indeed mess up again, Eigengrau. *there is a sharp, almost mocking tone to his words that Eigengrau immediately catches, though Kherty ignores the tears in the fawn's eyes as he stands above him, now addressing Lorina, hoping she doesn't recognize him and yet thinking he'd be terribly crushed if she forgot him because he's actually taken the time to remember her though it's not like he even knows why he bothered UGH this is DUMB* ...Allow me to apologize. Eigengrau has yet to learn that he does not actually have a mother and never will with such behavior. *lets that sink in for the dumb kid* ...We will be taking our leave now.
Lorina :: *tilts her head slightly. so his name was Kherty.* "Don't leave just yet, buck." *quite intrigued as to how Kherty came in the care of a child, and why this child wanted her to be his mother* "If he has no mother, how is it that you came to be his father. Unless, he actually is your child." *glances toward the ground, where she assumed Eigengrau is* "Eigengrau, was it. Do I look like you?" *doesn't say it sarcastically, more as though she is legitimately curious about their looks.*
Kherty: *his scales must be itchy, what else could that tickle be when she asks him to stay? doesn't like this line of questioning though, staring blankly at Eigengrau for a moment before answering* ...I found the fawn when he was merely days old. I observed his thicket, so far off from all of the others that had recently sprung up... *sounds disdainful, ignoring the sudden wetness he feels where Eigengrau's face is on his leg* ...and assumed his parents were perhaps new here. *not that he would help, Kherty was just incredibly nosy, always watching other herla* ...His parents never returned. As much of a heartless monster as I may seem, I was not about to leave the child alone. *actually almost smiling here, though it is bitter, maybe he is regretting taking Eigengrau in?*
Eigengrau: *buries his face into his father's leg, not wanting to hear the story but hearing it anyway, knowing Kherty isn't really his father and obviously Lorina isn't his mother after all... finally looks back up with watery eyes when Lorina speaks to him, confused and frustrated. was she doing that mocking thing Father hated so much yet was so good at? but no, she sounds sincerely curious and that just confuses Eigengrau more. he is oblivious to Kherty watching him now (whoops forgot to mention she was blind! let's see if he picks up on that), sniffling and answering weakly* ...Your hair, it moves like mine. See? Doesn't it? *shakes his head, hair all tendrils and woosh* ;_;
Lorina :: *listens intently, trying to form a picture in her head of the tattered buck she met and this young fawn, an odd couple from the small amounts of time she's spent with the both of them. ignores Kherty, more intent on what the fawn has to say.* "My hair." *closes her eyes, feeling the hair tugging softly from the back of her neck and flutter a bit. was it really that noticeable a movement? it was difficult to feel, and made no noise. she couldn't picture it* "No Eigengrau, I can't. Can you come close so that I may?"
Kherty: *he is silent as his golden eyes study the interaction between fawn and hind. Eigengrau, wanting to call him Father. Lorina, who he just can't imagine as a mother. why did he tell Eigen about her? he imagines them as a family and almost snorts aloud in bitter amusement. they would be the most broken, pathetic family of all. Kherty finally looks away from the two, losing himself deep in thought as is so common with him, struggling with such strange thoughts and emotions he's found so hard to suppress lately*
Eigengrau: *watches Lorina, still confused, but feeling at least a bit better, especially since she used his name. timidly, Eigengrau moves closer, standing tall and lifting his head, hoping she can see it now, right?* If... If I can't call you mother, then may I know your name? >: *maybe she's like Kherty, all hung up on being able to earn the title or whatever weird stuff he was droning on about... Eigengrau suddenly feels bad for not listening to his father* I-I'll listen to everything you say! *suddenly pleads, desperate for her approval, oh nooo he's such a terrible, rude boy no wonder he doesn't have parents!*
Lorina :: *lowers her head down so that her nose was touching the fawn's hair, indeed it curled around her and moved the same as hers did when she concentrated. she lifted it back up, the scent of the fawn in her nostrils. she wants to smile* "Lorina. My name is Lorina." *she thought about them being a family, it would be strange. a blind woman, a broken man, a lost child. she wants to laugh* "I likely won't ask you to do much." *turns toward where she thinks kherty was. it was where he was speaking last at least!* "Maybe try listening to him a bit more, sometimes he says things that are very right."
Eigengrau: *his heart lifts when she tells him her name--is this acceptance?!--and smiles brightly up at her, then remembers, wait, maybe she really really can't see, so he nuzzles into her leg instead* OK, I will listen! I'll try to be the best Ward so maybe someday I can be Son and Kherty can be Father and Lorina can be Mother. Then we'll be a real family! *his tail waggles wildly at the thought as he looks expectantly between the two adults*
Kherty: *drawn out of his thoughts, Kherty's torn ears perk as the hind reveals her name and his eyes flicker back over to the two. with the fawn prattling on, he wrinkles his nose up in a slip annoyance and... embarrassment, was that?, before regaining his composure when Eigengrau looks over. Kherty is silent for a moment, studying Lorina now, wondering what she means by that. again, the memory of their first meeting flashes in his mind, but he pushes the thought away, feeling awkward, wondering what Lorina thinks of all of this, of him, what he's done, why does he care? feels a flicker of anger, not wanting to be here, yet hating himself for that* ...That's enough, Eigengrau. Lorina only gave you her name, she never agreed to be your mother. You're being rude again, certainly no way to win over a hind. *crushin' dreams, a day at a time*

Lorina :: *she stood still while the fawn nuzzled her leg. Mother. Mother. Mother. The word seemed nearly foreign in her ears. She'd make an awful mother, probably one like her own, who was cold and distant, and never once tried to make her life as a blind herla easier, which had always made Lorina resent her.* "..." *this child was desperate, a feeling she understood so well. she certainly felt a strange sort of fondness for this fawn, who reminded her of a younger version of herself, before she drowned. she smiles, a first for her in a long while* "Stay still a moment, Eigengrau." *she wasn't sure where Kherty was, or how far from her he was standing, but she took slow, deliberate steps toward him until she believed she was close enough* "Kherty." *she lowers her voice* "You and I both know the horrors of this world. We could save him. Together. He may be the redemption we've both been seeking."

Eigengrau: *he made her smile! so he was doing good! thrilled that he could make Lorina smile so soon, now if only he could make Kherty smile... someday! it was all about looking ahead and Eigengrau was still so young and hopeful about all of the good somedays he'd have. at being given his first task by Lorina, Eigengrau straightened up, determined to master the art of staying still like his father did, though the fawn looked much more proud instead of tense* OK! I will! Watch me, I won't move at all! OuO *watches Lorina approach Kherty, her slow steps ELEGANT to him!!! wonders what they are talking about but figures it is their first adult-thing as parents, failing his first command as he breaks his statue impression, wiggling excitedly in place*
Kherty: *he made her smile! Kherty's eyes widen as he feels a stab of shock, jealousy--just a small movement and yet the way it lit up her whole face, it was as though Kherty was seeing her for the first time lovely he almost breathed aloud, but instead he just tightened his jaw and looked away, wondering how the fawn did it but quickly stopping that line of thinking, too.* ... *at hearing her approach, he wills himself to look at her, for some reason disappointed to see she isn't smiling but well of course she wouldn't be. his scales itch again as she says his name and he perks his ears, straining them forward to catch her every word. his heart, which was strangely quick before, nearly slows to a stop by what she says, what he was just thinking about, what they spoke of back then. he is silent for a moment as he studies her, then looks back at the eager fawn--somehow, suddenly, he can almost see why she would smile but his face is as emotionless as ever as he finally speaks* ...I want to, Lorina. I took Eigengrau in with the hopes of shielding the child from the harm that inevitably rains down on us all... But I'm afraid I'm only making it worse for him. I am not fit to be a father and I... *pauses, taking a breath, he has so much to say, all of the worries nearly spilling out, but he knows she wants an answer and he wants to give it to so with a shaky voice betraying just how hard this is for him* ...I can't do this alone, Lorina.

Lorina :: *listening as the fawn -- her son now? what an intriguing thought -- wriggles in place, trying to be still like she asked.* "I too, may not be the most fit mother, with my ... issues. But that doesn't mean we can't teach him." *she finds herself longing to touch kherty. he mentioned he had scars, visible tells of violence against him, and she wondered what they felt like. what did the man with the monotone voice and the smell that hinted at despair look like?* "I will help you raise Eigengrau, Kherty." *her milky eyes stare blankly, but she's quite sure this is what she has to do*

Kherty: *at her answer, he feels the corners of his mouth tug upwards. it's an odd feeling, and Kherty realizes he is trying to smile. not the mocking, hateful smile he sometimes wore, but a genuine smile of relief. happiness. it's an odd feeling, but nice too, as his smile grows, for once not suppressing the action. he wishes he could see Lorina's smile again, and although his emotions are as muted as ever, there is a lighter, if subtle, tone to his voice* Thank you, Lorina. *he hasn't said that in so long and it's getting harder to suppress the joy he feels welling up, he almost feels like nuzzling Lorina as Eigengrau did to show his gratefulness, but as always, Kherty keeps himself restrained, though there is almost a glimmer of hope in his normally dull eyes* For all of our... flaws, I am sure that, together, we can raise this fawn to be happy, unhindered, with a childhood free from hurt... *he moves forward, closer to Lorina now, studying Eigengrau* Eigengrau is obviously thrilled to have you as his... mother, so he would say, and for that I must thank you. *can't help it now, he just has to comment* ...And by the way he made you smile, it's obvious he makes you happy, too. *feelin' cheeky! though his smile fades as he mutters more seriously* Just as we teach this fawn, perhaps he will also teach us...
Eigengrau: *TOTALLY SAW THAT SMILE he is pretty much hopping in place now and as Kherty looks him, Eigen just wants to assault his "parents" with all of the nuzzles, all of them. he is sure that the smile means they are mother and father now and Eigen just falls even more in love with Lorina... she must be magical if she can make Kherty smile! growing impatient, he calls over to them* Mother! May I come over now? :'D?!
