Awenasa Herd

User Image

Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home;
A charm from the sky seems to hallow us there,
Which, seek through the world, is ne'er met with elsewhere.
Home, home, sweet, sweet home!
There's no place like home, oh, there's no place like home!

The Awenasa(Cherokee meaning 'home') consists of mares and stallions who resemble a paint/pinto pattern.

Not sure what a Pinto(Paint) pattern looks like? It's quite simple. A base color with:
1) A splash or another color.
2) A splash with two or more different colors.

For example: a mare with the base coating of black with white splashes.

The color pallate can range from natural colors like chestnuts to the crazy colors of hot pink and electric blue.

However, an unsuitable color would be solid such as a plain black stallion.

Examples of a suitable pinto:
Example One
* She has a base color of purple with creamy-white colored splashes on her body.
Example Two
* She has a base color of brown. What makes her a pinto is the splash of color on her back and the unusual marking on her face.

Examples of non-suitable pintos: Example One
* This mare has only a single base color. The white on her legs and face are markings.

Example Two
* She has only a solid base color. The black on her legs and face are markings.

Traditions

Spiritual Faith
The Awenasa are very spiritual in believing that the 'Great Horse Spirit' is the mother of all living inhabitants of this world; that everything--everyone has a purpose in life.
The Great Horse Spirit looks over the herd day and night. During the day SHE warms their bodies with the sunlight and at night protects HER offspring with a blanket of twinkling stars.
The Awenasa pray to the great spirit every night and sings songs of her triumph.
Thanking her for every meal they consume and hardship they overcome.
The Great Horse Spirit is their deity.

Mating
The Awenasa are very strict into breeding within the herd. There is NO breeding outside of the herd and is quickly shunned upon if it happens.

Ceremony
The mare and stallion in question will 'bind' themselves to one another by adorning wildflowers together or to a vine in which they will tie around their necks so that they're connected.
Afterwards there will be a ceremony for the new couple which consists of a feast of fresh grasses and fruits. It's a time for rejoycing and happiness to the couple.
Afterwards at nightfall the couple in question will leave the herd for a couple days. They'll return to the herd where the lead mare will remove the flowery necklaces and announce them as mates.

Birth
A pregnant mare may choose to give birth within the herd or will leave a short distance with the company of two mares of her choosing or the father of the foals.
She'll be adorned with wild flowers or another mare will paint tribal markings on her swollen stomach before she's in labor. After giving birth one of the mares will return to the herd and announce the birth. It is then that both leaders of the herd will return and praise upon the offspring.
Each foal of Awenasa is as important as the next. The foals are loved and cherished by everyone within the herd.
BUT if a foal is born without looking like a Pinto, the foal will stay within the herd until it's an adult. Once becoming an adult the foal will be shunned out of the herd.
