.:HISTORY:.

No one knows, precisely, when the pack originated. It is old, perhaps one of the oldest packs in Telk, predating the memory of all who currently live. Before the current members, there were others like them -- other strong gammas, other sly omegas, other God Alphas mastheading the beasts of shadows.

Perhaps they were born from myth itself. For so long as there have been wolves in these lands, pups have gone missing...wolves have disappeared, or been murdered in the night...and howls of sorrow and rage have filled the air. In the pain and superstition of the tales spoken amongst wolves, shadowy demons took form. Perhaps, fueled by tales, the first of these apparitions stepped out into the world fully-formed, a ghost made flesh, the carnal image of collective fear.

Or perhaps they came before the tales.

Perhaps before there were stories...before there was myth, and legend, and whispered warnings to stay close to the den...the hunters already prowled in the darkness. Before language and civilization and time itself, they were there, lurking, waiting, biding their time.

Only one thing is certain. The Shadowclan have lived for an eternity - and though, sometimes, their presence may seem to fade, they will never disappear entirely.

Legends cannot be killed.

.:LAWS:.

-The alpha is your God, and his word is law. He protects you, cares for you, and gives your life purpose. In return, you worship and obey him.

-The good of the pack is greater than the needs of any single member, including the alpha. All things are done for the good of all.

-No one member shall be held in esteem above any other, save for the Alpha. If it is found that a member's love or loyalty to a single Brother is greater than that for their God, both members shall be punished so that they learn their rightful place.

-The Alpha lives to serve his pack. If he ever fails in his duty to his followers, it is the responsibility of the pack to remove the alpha by any means necessary.

-Outsiders are not allowed on these lands. Intruders must be killed on sight, unless they are males worthy of joining our ranks -- a determination ultimately made by the alpha.

-No wolf may see the mark of the Shadowclan and live to speak of it.

.:OOC RULES:.

-No female will ever be allowed to be a member, no exceptions.

-All actions bear IC consequences; if you choose to have your wolf leave or defy the laws of the pack, you accept that your wolf may be subject to punishment

-Brotherhood wolves are allowed to participate in breeding, under the following restrictions: it doesn't become a common occurrence; the wolf is never caught; the female is not allowed to know anything of the pack or its secrets; any male pups borne from the litter are stolen and raised within the pack without knowing the truth of their heritage. I retain the right to revoke breeding privileges if this gets out of hand

.:TERRITORY:.

Map not to scale -- wolves are pretty bad at that.
Brushes from here.
Map (c) Milorganite

The Shadowclan greatly values its privacy, and so has chosen its territory accordingly. Few wolves dare to venture near the swamps and crags of Shadowclan land -- and especially not those who have heard the rumors that the land is haunted.

The terrain was formed by an enormous glacier that once swept over the land. At its edge, this glacier left a compacted moraine of dirt and rocks, which forms the territory's northern border. Few wolves have any desire to cross over it. Bumped up against this moraine on the western side of the lands is a lake, fed by a thin river. In the spring, the whole western side of the territory turns into an enormous swamp. A foolish wolf can be sucked under if he isn't careful. In fall, the flocks of waterfowl that land there during their migration are so thick a wolf can run through with his mouth open and catch dinner.

The eastern side of the territory is drier but not much friendlier. There, the glacier left enormous stones, and little but scrub grasses and berries grow. The wolves make their dens among a collection of drumlins and kames, protected from the wind that tends to tear over the land. Near the dens is the meeting pit, an area surrounded by stone where the pack gathers when called.

There is a theory that the earliest Brotherhood wolves developed their unique ability to blend into shadows as compensation for the relative lack of cover in their natural territory; with so few large trees, they must work doubly hard to fade out of sight.
