 S W O R DO S T O R Y
The Sun Samurai smiled softly at the shafts of corn that were still in the night. Their papery husks made soft skrtch...skrtchh... sounds when his fingers brushed by them, and he marveled at the richness of their color. He never understood how agriculture bloomed in his abode, but it was magical all the same to him, wondrous in itself. How calm the corn was, how quiet the corn was! If only the corn was like this for the remainder of their lives. Their future, like all other crop, was grim. Of course, every man's tragedy was another's boon--this he knew well from his own story. While he didn't dislike his story, he felt awful about the corn.
He frowned at the truth, that they'd be harvested eventually, for some hungry (or curious) Book Child. He, himself was a Book Child, and he did enjoy the corn. Yes, he was a guilty accessory.
Sighing, he sat down beside the field of crop, unhooking his katana from his hip to maintain a comfortable position. Brown eyes scanned the sleeping hilt, the glimmer of the blade concealed within. Katanas were very much like corn. It was the inside that was valued, the inside that caused people to feel what they felt when it was inside them. He laughed at his analogy, amused that he'd find such a silly correlation. Katana Corn! A tasty blade, sure enough! The idea sent him shivering. He was glad other City People and Book Children were absent; he wouldn't want anyone marveling at his nonsensical fits of laughter. Everything in the world was a comedy to the Sun Samurai--and in frank sense, so was tragedy.
