“They say that free will sets us sentient races above and apart from the other beasts of this realm…but is it such a blessing? Or is it a curse?

Not a day goes by that something born of free will happens. We murder our fellows, lie, steal, cheat, rape, pillage and plunder. We are horrible to each other, punishing even the slightest offense with revenge of some sort.

Sure, the beasts of this world perform the same deeds, but they do it in order to survive, unlike us. We do it simply because we can, because our free will causes us to go against our instincts, to do what we think is right or just, no matter how wrong or unjust it may seem to others. We cling to these ideas, and we harm each other in the process.

Perhaps it will be our downfall? I certainly imagine so, though I dare not think of the last days of men and elf, of dwarf and gnome, of all the sentient races that live in this realm. For it will be days of bloodshed and the cries of thousands as they lose everything they hold dear.

To destroy everything we couldn’t do without seems our path, to doom ourselves to damnation seems our goal, and we follow them willingly…”

Und'ny'iegh

A riddle...

...or a rhyme

Und'ny'iegh stretched out in the shade of the trees. This was far better then way back home. No flies, and a cold breeze to keep one from overheating. He could move so much more and think so much clearer without all the heat and sand.

"This place I do adore, for shade galore;
So much shade to be seen, rarely is my mind so keen;
I think I will stay here awhile, and work on improving my guile."

He smiled lightly and rolled over to cool his other side, still with eyes closed and mind wandering.

I am a shadow in the forest.

Aiowyn sat in her tree, lazily swinging her legs, eating an apple. Nearby she detected movement and heard a voice, rhyming to itself. She tossed her apple core behind her and swiveled in her seat so both legs were hanging off of the same side. She studied the creature laying in the shade of the trees. Her tree creaked, the voice of it speaking in the Old language of the trees, and Aiowyn listened intently to it as it whispered what it knew to her. Then she dropped out of it lightly and landed silently. She crept closer, curiously, and crouched just beyond the creature behind a tree trunk.

Und'ny'iegh

A riddle...

...or a rhyme

The Lammasu slowly sat up, head lifted to the skies, eyes still closed. He took a big whiff of the air and smiled, returning to his position. He silently laid there in the shade, ears swiveling lightly. He knew there was a presence nearby, though were exactly he didn‘t know. His senses weren‘t as keen in his old age, and she was sneaky. The presence was hopefully not a threat, though he guessed he would find out sooner or later.

He was hundreds of years old, though the exact number has been lost to him for quite some time though. He was rightly feared back in his prime, when things were different, though in his old age he doubt he could scare much of anyone now. Too frail, too slow.

I am a shadow in the forest.

With ease that betrayed the familiarity she had with the forest, Aiowyn scaled the tree and sat on the limb closest to the beast, so she was above and beyond it a bit.

"Who are you?" She asked, her voice ringing out in the forest. She tilted her head to the side, the limb shuddering slightly with the movement, and the elf shifted her weight minutely. The curiosity the elf had would have probably lead her closer if she hadn't detected the age of the beast. She had been told once that to creep up on an old beast was both unlucky and unpredictable.

Und'ny'iegh

A riddle...

...or a rhyme

Und'ny'iegh rolled onto his stomach and looked up at the girl. I am Und'ny'iegh. I am but an old lamassu, merely passing through." He sighed lightly, and sat up. He hated not rhyming or answering with riddles, but some found it annoying or confusing.
"And you are?" He smiled lightly at the girl, but was cautious nonetheless. He didn't trust lightly.

I am a shadow in the forest.

"Aiowyn Taynou, the silver shadow," Aiowyn said, dropping stealthily from the tree. "And where might you be passing through to?" The elf asked, tilting her head again curiously. Another piece of her ebony hair fell from its place but Aiowyn seemed not to notice, or noticed and took no action. Either way, she did nothing to pick it up from her shoulder.

Her hands remained at her side, but it could be noted that both of her dual katanas were within reach, and that the swords were indeed loose in their sheaths. She took extra care to be safe, rather than sorry. Things much more terrifying lurked in the forest than a lamassu.
