Being the youngest of four cubs was hard enough, being the youngest, a boy and being decidedly pink, was even harder and just to top it off being chubby made him the butt of a lot of jokes. Mostly his sisters jokes.

His mothers mate Kwea, had told him to stand up for himself, that females were worthless that they needed to be treated as such. He didn't think they were worthless though, he liked them, he loved his siblings and his mother. The girls in his litter though seemed to take jest in him being a rolly pink cub and it hurt his soul that they didn't love him. It hurt more that he wanted to be nice to them, even though Papa-Kwea told him not to and yet they laid their nasty words upon him.

It had been a tough day for Rickweard and he had curled up as far away from the den as possible, hiding, mostly unsuccessfully in a patch of thick grass that was comfortable but didn't fully hide him from any prying eyes. He was feeling very down and the tears that rolled down his cheeks made him feel even more inferior than his sisters insisted he was. He wanted to be strong but he just didn't know how to do that without being mean to the girls. And that was something he definitely didn't want to do he wanted ot be nice to the girls, it was proving to be a real dilemma for the poor cub so he simply laid his chin on his paws and closed his eyes trying to think of other things less depressing than girl-bullies.

Edge found himself looking for his brother again, a sad smile spread on his clumsy cubby face when he passed other lions who gave him a knowing glance. He was on the look out for Ric, the younger cub was known for finding a place to hole himself off while he had a 'sensitive' moment and Edge had to find him and coax him out. He did not mind this one bit.

Brotherhood was very very important to the pair. From the day they were born they were inseparable, it hadn't been long since then, but it was obvious they'd be close as ever forever and this was all part of it. It didn't take long to find the weeping youth and Edge was immediately at his side and curling up. "You know Father only has one opinion right Ric?" He had overheard the conversations and knew what was wrong.

"You can have your own opinion.. and our sisters are just evil!" He smiles slightly, hoping for a laugh, he felt horrible seeing Ric so upset, it literally ached his heart.

Ricweards ears flickered as he heard his brothers approach, and when his brothers body fell against him he leaned in to his older sibling. It was good to hear Edge's voice, good to listen and take it in, but it still ached in his gut that he wasn't like their father, he couldn't push back, he couldn't hurt any one, not couldn't Would not, should not even, he just wanted to be liked, to be loved.

Burying his nose in his brothers shoulder he gives a sniffle. "I know..but.." He trails off there was a really big BUT in the air, and he didn't know what to do about it, he was young but he felt some where inside that he would never be able to treat people the way their father did."Why is everyone so mean edge?" He questioned looking up with odd coloured eyes at his older brother.

His brother who he relied on. He had bonded with his brother so tightly since their birth, he was the one he leaned on when their mother was busy, the one who always came and found him and gave him the comfort he needed. He knew he was weak willed, compared to his brother he was frightened of his own shadow, almost. He took a lot of the petty insults to heart and without his brothers shoulder to cry on, he doubted he would ever feel happy. "I think you have a radar big brother how do you always find me?" He sniffles a slight smile raising on his maw as he said it, it was a running joke between them, Edge could always find him, always, it was like Edge knew where Ric would be even without thinking. It made him feel that much happier that he always had his brothers shoulder, that he understood, that he even said outright that their sisters sucked that opinions didn't matter.

Edge let a big, awkward sized paw lift and hold to his younger brothers cheek, it wasn't uncommon to find the two like this. He loved being a big brother more than anything in the world, adored the loyalty that the two of them shared the little twang he got whenever he knew something was wrong. If it weren't for the color difference Ric and Edge could be mistaken for twins, paws down. But the colors did separate them in their parents eyes most days. Edge disliked this and approved whole heartedly of Ric's opinions. He often wondered the why's of life himself and had begun wondering what the outside might be like. How he was raised left him to never question what the outside would be like. That was for the adolescents to discover and see.

"Everyones mean because they are jealous Ric, you have so much to offer and they just don't understand." Edge smiled, the words were almost a routine, he changed how and in what order he said them, but he always, always meant them. He curled up tighter to his brother to hold and hide him from a passerby, he hated the looks they got, but would never leave Ric, never. They were, as mentioned before, inseparable. "It doesn't matter how, it just matters that I will little brother.. the Gods gave me a special gift and that gift is you. They've granted me the gift to protect and always help you. Never will you be alone so long as my paws step on this earth."

He pulled his brother back when the coast was clear and the tears could be gotten rid of, with his tongue he began cleaning Ric thoroughly, taking care to not go at his eyes or nose to much, but riding him of the water trails left behind. "Now, come along, let's play a game. In tears and laying around is no way to spend a day!" Edge got up and poked at Ric to get up aswell, he smiled encouragingly and awaited his brother to join him.

Ricweard nestled in to his brothers side as his brother cleaned up his face. A little smile edged across his lips and the chubby cub listened intently to his brothers words. The young cub really didn't know what he would do without his brothers help, without his brothers kind words and loving side. Edge was right, they were brothers, they were twins and they would stick together through thick and thin.

The soft pink cub clambered to his paws and attached himself to his brothers side. He felt better about himself when Edge made sure he was okay, edge always made him feel important and it was something that he would always rely on.

"What should we play?" The young lion snuffled brushing his paw across his nose to wipe away the last sniffle. Edge could come up with the best games and as long as they were together, he didn't care what they played. That was what being a brother was all about, playing together, relying on each other, just being there no matter what. He knew, no matter what the future held he would always have his brother.

Edge lay still with his chubby little pride and joy and enjoyed the moment they shared almost everyday, maybe twice a day. The moments were what he cherished most, the quiet downtime they shared, it never lasted long, but always lasted long enough for him to never forget. They were a bit bigger now and thus he had a new game he thought they should consider. "How do you feel about learning to climb?" Edge gazed at his brother, knowing full well that fear might set in his eyes and he might cower at the feat, but probably still say sure anyway only because Edge suggested it. He always gauged how strenuous the game should be on the reaction he got.

He watched the little guys face for a brief moment and began shifting himself to get up. Regardless if Ric wanted to do this or not they'd be doing something and he could feel the tension rise in his muscles with the way he was laying, his body had curled something like a protective Mothers around Ric's body and he wondered then as he had wondered times before, how did Mothers lay for hours like that!?

Ric's eyes went wide for a moment and a flash of fear crossed his duel coloured eyes. "Cl..climbing?" He frowns a little he wasn't afraid of hight's, he didn't think, but it had never really occurred to him that he should go climbing. It had obviously occurred to his brother though. Taking a deep breath the chubby male gave a little nod. "Okay big brother." He smiles a weakly brave smile. Nothing bad would happen so long as Edge was there.

"We won't go too high though right?' A crease folded on his brow and he looked to his brother hopefully. He would try it, after all Edge thought it would be fun and it could be something that he and his brother did together on a regular basis. Not that they didn't already do everything together. they were attached at the hip.

"Lead the way.."

The fear that struck Ric's face almost startled Edge, he had never had the thought occur to him that Ric may just not be up to it, but that just made him wary. It did not however cease the idea that brewed in his head, it just changed the scenery. "We won't go high, we can climb on rocks instead of try the trees." The trees were not that big here, but were big enough to induce a good injury should one fall, so thus the change of heart.

Taking this to his advantage he stood and mapped out the Ukuucha`Wafalme in his brain. It was filled to the brim with caves, so not only was climbing rocks a better idea, well they simply didn't have to travel as far and so they could be home in no time at all, should the fun be to much for time to handle and dinner comes to fast. "Okay, let's go." He smiled, the standing and walking causing small easing cracks to pop here and there. It was his body's way of thanking him for moving instead of laying around.

"Here we go..." He smiled happily, a small rock formation was nearly right next to their very own den. More behind it then anything, a place they could play secretively if they kept quiet enough. This way they could avoid the tattle taling of one specific sister that particularily didn't get along with Ric. "Climbing is easy, promise." The bravery on Edge's face was pure and sturdy, something for Ric to lean on, matter of speaking. A safety net, which Edge would forever be. "You go first, that way I can be behind you if you need a soft landing!" He smiled and lightened the air with a joke.

Ric smiled at his brother looking at the rocks wearily. He takes a moment to take in the look on his brothers face, edge was so brave and clever. He was his safety net even before they did anything. He head butts his brother and nods a braver smile crossing the pale pin cubs maw. Together he and edge could do anything. Together they would always be safe.

The chubby pink cub unsheathes his claws and jumps for the first rock holding tightly, his belly pressed against the rock, expecting to go straight back down the way he had come and finding that his claws found little crevices that kept him attached to the rock. He smiles to himself reaching upwards his tail wriggling.

Climbing might be fun, it might b something he and his brother could enjoy together. So far it was fun but he knew that Edge would be right behind him. Edge would keep him going up, just not too far up, just to the top of this rock maybe? His little tongue peeks out between his lips as he reaches again feeling for the crevices with his claws. He decided as he took another pull he liked climbing. With Edge, he liked climbing with his brother.

Edge found himself having more fun with this than he thought he would, probably because Ric was actually having fun and not spending the time being afraid of the task at hand. They thrived together, there was no question about that at all. It just was as it was. "That's it Ric!" He was so proud, his tone of voice proclaimed it, quietly though as to not get ay attention, but he loved to provide his brother with a boost of confidence. Soon as he could he was up and following Ric he had decided just a little higher, purely because they were basically at the top when they about 2 feet up, which was almost halfway.

"Do you want to try for the top Ric, we don't have to if you don't want to? We can go swimming and practice trying to catch fish or something." He smiled encouragingly, he honestly didn't mind what they did, everything was made to be a whole tonne of fun when it was them.

"We can make it to the top." Ricweard smiled brightly, he felt the confidence of his brothers words in his ears as he clambered upwards. Edge would always be there, always help him along, always give a helpin paw and a shoulder to cry on. They were brothers and he doubted anyone was as close as they were.

Scrabbling up the rock Ricweard flops over the top of the rock and sits proudly, a grin spread wide on his maw. "I did it edge! I did it!" He puurs happily the sun playing on his face as he turns his gaze to the sky.
