Prelude
It began with one phone call. "You need to wake up now. I need you to leave your dreams," a soft, harmonious voice gently ordered. But they didn't understand. How could they not be awake? They had to be to even answer the phone! Dismissing it, they continued their existence without a further thought to it but a mocking chuckle.
However, they all dreamed as one that night. Gathered about a midnight haired being, who was clothed in white and pearls, they listened attentively as she informed them that a Nightmare outbreak was unleashing itself in the little suburbia of Santa Maria. They were to destroy the materialized and soothe the human sources as the Sandman does.
Some woke up without recalling the dream. Others awoke, remembering everything as if it was naturally a part of their lives. But eventually they'll all find their way to fulfilling the duty that was given to them.
~Clarification
Dreamers: servants of the 'Fourth Wish', whom they typically deem as their mom, and the Fates. They generally do the typical roles of a reaper, sandman, and also guard the realm of dreams from the afterlife. They contact each other through dreams or cell. NOTE: Some work in both worlds, others work strictly in the dream one. So they could be unaware of being a Dreamer when they're conscious, but still be active and close to the other Dreamers in their dreams.
Nightmares: just a colloquial term used to refer to your typical nightmares that had gathered enough energy to become it's own entity. Sometimes when they're powerful enough, they escape into Reality/Earth. They're generally like evil monsters, but they can be half-trained by powerful beings, usually to do their bidding. For the most part, if they're not destroyed, they're dumped off in Hell.
~Setting
Santa Maria is a typical, non-magical suburbian town. The 'Dreamers' have to be secretive about their powers while they try to combat the flood of Nightmares that are appearing in the local area and in the local 'dream field' (basically the part of the dream world that's linked to that specific part of the material world). The dream-world itself is morphic and usually appears to be set in clouds, fog, and/or floating platforms or paths. It's also 'spiritually' located in front of the spacial expense before the gates to Hell, Heaven, and Purgatory. So it's a supplement to the typical 'Heaven-Hell'/angel-demon universe.
Currently, it's unknown as to whether the threat is just a strange fluke or cycle, or if someone's behind it. [AkA: I'd like at least a villain. *evil grin* ]
