This is only for my Stars Blodeuwedd and Solveig, as part of a plot for their respective herds.

The magenta Arcturus mare strolled gracefully down the path awfully close to the lands of her family's enemies. With the pure white eyes that meant blindness in lesser creatures, one might almost mistake her for a Juliet figure traipsing near the lands of a yet unknown Romeo...however, her clear, strong vision, her skull mask, and the little smirk betrayed the opposite.

This mare, Blodeuwedd, granddaughter of the illustrious and powerful Moloch, King of the Shadow Herd, was deliberately walking into the lands of the enemies, seeking to wreak havoc. To lower suspicions, Blod planned on using the fact that her pathetic mother was of this miserable herd as a cover, pleading that she only wanted to be with her mother's folk instead of her father's folk.

This was a lie, but Blod was no stranger to lies; lies was how she'd been raised in the great Shadow Herd, and only a weak person would be incapable of lying. The fact that truth was valued here was their own weakness.

A golden Arion mare topped the ridge. She had offered to scout this afternoon, and even though she stood still, her golden bells still jingled in the soft, warm summer breeze. Solveig smiled as she gazed at the sky and landscape before her before looking down to scout properly.

Ehhh, this was just too nice a day for Solveig to worry about the Shadow Herd; they didn't seem to care for bright, wholesome summer days, so she didn't bet on them being out. At any rate, there was a nice, cool, clear spring right here at the top of the ridge that tasted like heaven on summer days and Solveig lowered her head to drink deep, the breeze ruffling her magenta Arion wings.

As she raised her head, she glimpsed an unfamiliar dark pink shadow at the bottom of the ravine below. Sol squinted her eyes, not recognizing the figure at all. Since this was the border of the Shadow Herd lands and she didn't recognize the Star below, she called out in her golden voice, "Halt! Who are you?"

Blodeuwedd hid an evil grin behind the bone of her skull mask. This was too perfect. A golden heiress of the famed Lughnasadh, playing right into Blod's hooves. She schooled her features into an expression of woe. "Excuse me! I'm sorry for trespassing, but do you know of my mother, Kaede? I'm her daughter, Blodeuwedd. I am come to stay with her for a time, having learned of her and wanting to meet her." She artfully tossed her flaming mane and tail, signs of her pathetic maternal lineage.

Solveig tilted her head and carefully peered at the pink mare with her own pink eyes. The mare indeed had Kaede's flaming locks and the burning autumnal leaves marking her coat. Other than that, she didn't resemble Kaede...but some of her features...they were typical of Moloch...with the bone armlet and the skull mask. Cautiously, she called out, "Truly? She will be happy to see you, if you are indeed her daughter, but why would a daughter of Moloch and his herd come here, even for familial reasons?" Much as Solveig wanted to believe this mare, her great-grandfather had warned her to be wary of Moloch's folk, especially those who bore his traits.

So this mare wasn't as stupid as she looked. More care was needed in seducing and tricking the little sunstreak. "I am also Moloch's granddaughter, but more than I am his granddaughter, I have always felt that I must be more my mother's daughter, since I did not ever truly fit in," she lied, keeping her expression and voice woeful. "Please, can you take me to see my mother?" Over her dead body would she see that pathetic mare again, but the Arcturus mare made a good excuse to get close to one of Lughnasadh's lineage. After all, what better way to secure her position as the rightful heiress and greatest descendant of Moloch than to produce foals with a daughter of Lughnasadh's lineage and to corrupt said foals?

Solveig accepted the story. It seemed plausible, and the pink mare didn't seem to be lying. What's more, as Solveig trotted closer to inspect, the mare, Blodeuwedd, appeared to be blind. White eyes usually meant blindness, which increased the odds that she'd be an outcast in the Shadow Herd. "You can't see, can you?" she asked gently. "Don't worry, I'll take you to see your mother, after my patrol's over, which will be tomorrow morning. You understand, right? It's always a good idea to keep an eye out on one's borders," she added with increasing warmth to her voice.

Blod didn't know whether to snicker aloud or bash her head against a tree. Was this mare stupid or smart? Well, regardless, feigning blindness and the mare's dedication to duty would pay off in the long run. Blod honestly had no intention of meeting her mother, and if Blod could seduce this mare fast enough, she could sneak away in the night, leaving her none the wiser regarding the deception. Unfortunately, nagging in the corner of her mind, all unnoticed, was the worry that with two mares having offspring together, there was the chance that the gold mare would be impregnated, or that each would only carry one foal. She brushed that niggling thought aside to deal with later. That would be dealt with when the need arose. After all, kidnapping was an option...and they would be her own infantile minions....

Solveig smiled warmly and nosed her gently. "Follow me, please. I'll take you to where I'm staying while on patrol. It's nice, safe, and secluded. No one and nothing will harm you while we're there," she assured Blodeuwedd. It would be much later that evening that Blodeuwedd would accomplish what she'd set out to do, and after she'd tricked Solveig into returning to her post that Blodeuwedd snuck away into the night, luckily carrying at least one descendant of Moloch and Lughnasadh, to be corrupted by the Shadow and turned away from the Sun.
