I kind of feel like that realistically if a trainer did give their pokemon a nickname, they person battling it wouldn't know. It would be like ''oh hey, look, a rattata.''
Unless the trainer was like.. ''OH YEAH, GO JOSEPH!'' Then I guess you'd know.. I feel like they should have the species on the battle interface thing, but have the trainer say something like ''Yeah, go Joseph!'' When they send them out or something..
That would kind of be cool.
