I wish the trainers you battle in game, would nickname their pokemon.
Just to make the game a bit more personal.

I think they would have to give their pokémon really generic names that don’t deviate much at all from the pokémon’s species names. Because imagine:
“Cool Trainer Iria is about to use Milly!”
Well, what is a Milly? Do you send out a Fighting type thinking it’s Miltank? Then it turns out to be a Milotic... >n>
It would make things more interesting / exciting, though, having to guess what the pokémon is from its nickname, but expect some raging when you want the battle to be over and you guess the pokémon wrong. :XP:

Well seeing that these games are also geared to the younger folk, I would imagine that they would have a great deal of frustration figuring out what Excalibur would be, seeing as that could either be Excadrill or Escavalier (inb4 obvious Fire-type). It would cause a lot of problems as it also requires a lot of coding, as My Distortion pointed out. It's good on paper though.

Now that I browsed through Bulbapedia, I noticed that Pokemon Contests are the only place the trainer nickname their Pokemon. emo

it would get old quick because just like team rocket had the same pokes the same nicknames would get reused, I could see it being used on main characters
