~~ Introduction ~~ We decided to go the whole 9-yards and just remake the Kuze's. This will be extremely slow as the curse will be on them for a while. Most Stars won't be able to deal with that, so for the moment, I predict the herd will mostly just be blood relatives.
The herd is based on Fatal Frame:The Tormented, a horror survival game for PS2. Reika Kuze is the main boss and Kyouka Kuze is a reoccurring ghost.

~~ History And Landscape ~~ Long ago, there was a group of Stars who fell from the sky near an old shrine. Having lost their previous memories, but knowing they were from the sky, they decided to make a new society. They fixed up the shrine, made it inhabitable for them all. The stallions soon began to love the job of making things with wood and considered themselves the carpenters of the shrine. They left to live in the nearby abandoned village, taking some of the mares with them. This left nothing but females back at the shrine. It wasn't long before they began to make a strict matriarchy keeping the carpenters well away from them except in times the shrine needed repairing or something new built.
They began to experiment with the world around them. Through old texts in the shrine's library, they discovered a ritual involving the tattooing of the snake and holly on someone's body to help with the pain of others. They also discovered the area below the shrine, which seemed to be a gateway of sorts to another world. Believing it was their destiny to continue this work, since they landed so close to it, they set to work to preparing things to make the Kuze Shrine.
Once a suitable first Tattooed Priestess was found, word spread of a way to help heal your mental wounds by having it tattooed onto a sacred Priestess's body. Animals came from all around to partake in this ritual, transferring their pain over to the chosen mare through ink and blood. This was kept up for many years.
The last Tattooed Priestess was Reika Kuze, a poor filly from a nearby village who lost her entire village to a sickness. Of which only she survived. She decided to volunteer herself for the position of Tattooed Priestess, to help others get through their own pain. Back in her village, she had known a colt, Kaname, around her age who left before the sickness spread. She had loved him and he her. After she was impaled and put to sleep, she continued to dream about him, which made a connection with him. He started to dream of the Manor of Sleep, which prompted him to try and find her.
To backtrack a little, this stallion was the only son of Kyouka Kuze, who had him smuggled out of the shrine so he couldn't be drowned in the well. Kyouka was the only daughter of the Kuze Head, Yashuu Kuze. Kaname was not aware of his roots, nor that he had a younger sister named Amane, who helped him to see Reika. Amane led him into the Chamber of Thorns, where Reika slept with the other Priestesses. He woke her and she was glad to have seen him one last time. But before her very eyes, Yashuu appeared behind him and killed him. The sight of it made the tattoos enter Reika's eyes, causing the Rift.
To try and slow the Rift down, Yashuu had the carpenters build a manor around the shrine, to seal the Rift within it. On top of that, she had the carpenters sacrificed and buried in the walls of the manor. This didn't stop the Rift, so Yashuu next ordered the Handmaiden, Hisame, to impale the remaining two at the bottom of the Abyss. Amane, for bringing a man into the Chamber of Thorns and awaking Reika, had already been impaled in punishment of her crime.
The Rift continued to spread, turning the shrine and building around it into the Manor of Sleep. Those who perished within were trapped within the dream world to walk the halls forever as ghosts, pulling in others who dreamed of the manor. Anyone who has suffered the lose of a loved one is in danger of visiting this manor. As they dream, a tattoo spreads across their body. They sleep longer and longer, until they never wake. A few days later, all that will be left of them is a black stain on their bed as they are permanently whisked away to the Manor of Sleep.
To date, Reika and Kyouka are the only two known to escape the Manor. Amane close to Reika and told Kyouka about her. Kyouka had been left alone when the Rift happened. A mad impulse came upon her and she stole away quickly to the Chamber of Thorns. Ignoring the bodies of the Handmaidens and Kaname, the son she didn't know was there, she grabbed Reika and took them both to safety. But being so close to the source of the Rift caused a change in them. They are cursed. By day, they are mentally broken mares. By night, they become ghosts with a deadly touch.

~~ Rules: IC/OOC ~~ Kuze Code
A few of these crop up within the game. They were put into place to secure the purity of the shrine and make for successful rituals.
One was the no men rule. The shrine was only to be inhabited by women. Men were allowed when the snow was on the ground as guests. If they were villagers come to offer their pain to the Tattooed Priestess, they were considered Worshipers and had to keep their faces hidden at all times, so as not to make the Priestess's heart stir. Rarely, men were permitted to enter as Outsiders. These men were used only for producing more female heirs and were restricted from venturing beyond chosen rooms.
Baby boys born in the shrine were thrown down the well before they turned four.
It was considered particularly taboo for men to enter the innermost parts of the shrine, where the Tattooed Priestesses slept.
The punishment for violating the code is death. A man who violated the code would be killed with a cleaver and cast out, whereas a Handmaiden or other shrine dedicate would be impaled.
