Okay, so we all know that a lot of body mods have meanings behind them, right? But what about those that don't have the deep stories - the tattoos that aren't a memorial to a family member who died of cancer, or a piecing in a particular spot to remind yourself how you overcame that challenge in your life (I have a friend who got a bunch of microdermals in the shape of a star for this purpose). What about the ones that you got simply because you thought it looked nice?
I'm not talking about the barbed wire and roses tramp stamp and the n****e piercings you got while you were s**t-faced drunk in Vegas, but the ones you actually put thought into with the researching, sketching, and working out ideas with your tattoo artist.
While I was eating lunch with an old college professor I bumped into, we were talking about my tattoos, and he asked me why I did it. He wasn't being judgmental, he just wanted to know. 2 of my tattoos are Star Wars symbols, and the one on my leg is a reference to the game Resident Evil. They don't have any special meaning, I just liked them. When he asked, I explained how when I get a tattoo, it makes me feel like this beautiful walking piece of art - like each new tattoo is an addition to the canvas.
So, what about you all? What went through your head when you decided you wanted that metal put into your skin, or that sleeve you have decorating your arm? What compelled you to get your body modification(s)?
Side note: I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the "Banter, b***h, conversate, and gab" thread. If this is misplaced, I apologize.
