Wolf kissed his mate, still weird, before he left the den... his destination... his youngest brother. He had heard a rumour and wanted to check in on him. "Pup?" He called, looking around the strange place they had settled (for now at least), every day the danger seemed to only follow them...more and more were dying; and if they lost any more females they simply wouldn't be able to actually recover from their losses. It was unacceptable. "Pup?" He called again, Pup had never tried to challenge Wolf's dominace... not that he remember at least, but perhaps that was simply because Wolf had always looked out for him, as the runt of the litter few believed he would survive but Wolf, Grey and White had refused to let him die... not after they had already lost their parents. "PUP?" He called again, frustration building in his voice now.

His head shooting up from where he had been skulking. All the losses got to him, he hated hearing who had been most recently lost and so he generally tried to keep out the way, but never too far away. Looking round as he stood, he ambled over to his brother the Alpha, his odd eyes unsure, having been sleeping under a bush when the calling had woken him. Not sure what was wrog and not sure he wanted to hear any more bad news. The only good news had been his brother taking a mate, but even that was mixed news as many had lost mates and pups, not to mention the limited number of females made the chance of single males finding a match very low.

Wolf looked around the area with a hunger few ever challenged when they saw... he had to find Pup! He just HAD TO! Surely he didn't go off... someone had said they had seen him skulking off into the night... but to Wolf that seemed so out of character.

His eyes finally found their target! Mixed eyes of light and dark blue looked at him and his pose told Wolf he was worried he was in trouble or worst that there was MORE bad news. Relief washed over him and the playfulness in him emerged as he tackled his brother, pinning him into the ground and licking his nose. "Don't worry me like that." Was all he said.

Giving a small yelp and a whimper as he was pinned only to be licked. His ears coming back up and relaxing slightly. "Sorry... I... just needed a break..." not struggling or tryig to fight his brother off, accepting that he was far from being the top rung, even now he was smaller than his brothers, though not as small as he had been when he was a pup in fact. Ending up rolling over to look up at his eldest brother. "Was there something you needed?" Not sure why he would come looking for him if there were.

Wolf got up, he actually hated when anyone looked down at his brother, he may not be the strongest of the pack but he had other traits that simply couldn't be overlooked. "Someone told me you had left the den on your own... I was worried." He smiled over at his brother before looking out at the forest. He had once looked out thinking that everything was wonderful and perfect... now? It was a living shadow filled with his worst nightmares, would he ever learn to relax here again? As far as Wolf was concerned it was fine if Pup wanted space, if he wasn't alpha he would want space too... but if he claimed it for himself right now it would disturb the balance and before Rose he had been close to losing his role altogether.

Turning back to Pup he spoke, "Fancy a run?" He wouldn't run too fast, he would stick with his brother... this wasn't a show of strength, it was simply enjoying Pack.

Nodding as he stood up, rolling onto his feet easily. "Sure.." Still looking pup like as he had big paws and was kind of skinny. He was quite fast though but having never felt the need to prove he was better at anything he didn't try. He knew his place and while not 100% happy with how others were with him at times he took it in his stride. He would find a use or not, such was the pac way. "Ready...... Set.. Go!" Givving little to no warning before running off with a cheeky but happy yip.

The way Pup always picked himself up, always kept going... that was what he liked most about his youngest brother, the 'eternal' baby of their little family.... Wolf grinned and took off after him, his heavy paws striking the ground as his tail wagged with enthusiasm. Part of him knew he should probably go back and tell Rose that everything was ok, but for a moment Wolf just needed to breath... to be free, to be a brother.... getting close to his brother he puposefully nipped at Pup's tail. "Going to have to move quicker than that brother mine!"

Pup growled at the playful n** begore flashing his brother a grin and focusing on the run again, kicking it up into top gear, his skinny grame bounding along, literally leaving wolf in his dust.... If only for the moment, not deluding himself to thinking he wouldn't get caught up to.

Wolf laughed, he actually laughed... but then again Pup quite often had that effect on him. Not wasting too much time he set off after his brother. He would 'repay' him for the dust in his coat.... Rose wouldn't be happy if he came back filthy and stinking!

Using his stronger muscles he dug into the ground and did his best to catch his brother up despite the head start. Before too long he managed to catch up to his spot near his brothers rump. A log was in his path and so doing the old thing he knew how to do he pounced for it and used it to propel him into the air as he leaped ahead of his brother, turning to stick his tongue out. It may be cheating... but survival of the fittest and all that.

Pup skidded to a stop and sat down as his brother raced off. Very sure his protective brother would come running back to see what was wrong, having a plan for when he did. He knew his brother and had seen that he as up for some cheeting all though nothing too bad, so turnaround was fair play, he would just have to wait. Lifting one of his paws like he had got something in it he did just that.

Wolf hadn't got too far before he noticed Pup had fell behind... strange! His protectiveness rose and without evening thinking he skidded to a stop, spun with his strange kind of grace before bounding back to Pup, "You ok?" He called out, forcing his feet to move faster despite the physical pain it sent through his legs... he was focused, get to Pup NOW! He coul dbarely breath, what had happened? Did he do something to hurt his brother?

It didn't take him long to get to Pup's side and noticed the paw in the air... but to Wolf those seconds had felt like eternity. Concern furrowed his brow, "What's wrong....? Thorn?" He asked, preparing himself to look at the 'injured' paw.

Wolf pushed himself, simply because he wanted to wipe that grin of victory off his brothers face.... that was when an idea came to mind... "Pup... look out." He wanted to cheat? Well... Wolf could cheat! (Ok, so he may have cheated first but he wasn't going to dwell on that thought). His light blue eyes were trained on his brother.

Wolf saw his brother stop.... great. He jumped, it meant he had less control but for what he wanted it was perfect.... so close.. so close.... his tail struck his brothers nose and he turned and batted him on the nose gently, "Fool... don't stop in future..." He grinned before running off.

Giving his brothers rump a glare and scooting out of sight under another bush as soon as his brother was lookign away, seemingly vanishing, not leaving a sign of himself other than ome messed up leaves and grass. Curling up to let his brother worry for a while.

Wolf didn't look back as quickly as he normally did, originally hoping to put some distance between them... but when he turned around he stopped dead. WHERE WAS PUP? Panic flooded his heart.... surely this was just another trick? "Pup?" He called, scenting the air to check for other predators in the area. He started back, not running this time... he didn't want to let whatever may be lurking know he was there. Instead he stalked the area back towards his brother, a honed predator used to his body and his skills.

Before too long he returned to the spot where Pup's scent was strongest... he couldn't see him, nor could he scent anything else. "Ha ha Pup...." Wolf said, the worry clear in his voice... he didn't know what he woudl do if anything happened to Pup. He would destroy them with his own teeth.... and claws... and anger. God help anyone who got in his way.

Pup watched curled up in a bush, a paw coming down on Wolf's nose as it got close enough. Emerging from under the bush and sitting. Looking at his brother like nothing was wrong but thinking rest was a good idea as they had been running hard. "So, hows your new mate healing up? Knocked a few tails out of joint with that one I can tell you." Knowing at least one male had challenged Wolf since he had returned with the thought dead female that was his mate. The fight had been particulaly nasty and anyone could see there was more to it than just wanting to be alpha.

Wolf went to yelp in surprise as his brother battered his nose... instead he caught the pathetic noise and growled more playfully than fierce. But all was forgiven quickly and soon he sat down watching Pup, relieved that he was fine. He quirked an eyebrow at the question, knowing exactly of who Pup hinted at... Kouga. "Rose is good, will probably leave a scar but she know's I'll stand by her either way." He would say 'love her' but he was still having trouble opening up completely, especially with his alpha status constantly being challenged.

"No one is stealing her...." He said, a low growl in his voice. "....and I will keep defeating the b*****d until he gets the point and backs off." Wolf actually hated talking 'bad' about anyone, but this had struck a nerve... when it came to Rose he was more territorial than at anything else.

Pup looked amused at that but made no comment on it, he had seen how his brother was with Rose and knew better than most how different he as with her. Smiling and nodding. "I'm just glad you settled down, as I think most are that aren't jealous.... Not sure which is talked about more.. impending/past doom or oh joy alpha pups!" Putting on a female voice as it was the older few females that were gushing over the idea of pups.

Wolf barked out in laughter, "Only you would say that to me." He grinned, and then sobered as if he had some deadly news... "Of course, she has told me explicitly that she won't give me pups until I make sure they will be safe." He found that fact rather amusing, even as he contemplated the horrors that lurked in the forest. He didn't normally make light of the situation.... but oh well, you couldn't be doom and gloom all the time. "I didn't know you were such a woman though Pup..." He said with a quirked eyebrow, "...I can just see you birthing hundred of them."

Growling pup gave him a snort. "Bah... I'm woman enogh to birth 1000....." Shrugging off the sillyness. "The few older femmales tend to gossip like I'm a wolf skin rug... Grey or white they shut up around but not me..." Sighing, not usually minding but he honestly didn't want to be thinking about his brother getting frisky with his new mate. Especially as he had yet to even get a glance from a female, he might as well be a rug.

Wolf glanced at Pup and thought he saw some pain behind his brothers eyes... he didn't comment on and nor did it linger but it got Wolf thinking about the state of the pack, there weren't many females left, especially when compared to males... so more fights over them was bound to happen. It was something that Wolf needed to figure out... but what could he do? Rose was right, you couldn't risk birthing pups here, pups were more vunderable and they were being forced to move too much for even his liking. He looked to the sky before commenting; "Don't worry bro, one day you will find the one."{/b] He grinned, "Come on... if I can then you can." Wolf was far from a flirt, and the females had only wanted to be with him because he was 'alpha'... Rose was different, or at least Wolf liked to think she was.

Pup had always liked her and had been sad when they thought she was gone, but happy now that she was back and mated to Wolf....

Allowing the subject change he could tell his brother wanted he spoke, his expression drifting to some far away place... it was a mixture of sadness, joy and guilt. "You wanna know a secret?"

Laughing a little at the idea, but he didn't blame the brown wolf, he had been sweet on Rose a while before all this had happened. No one knew what had been said between them if anything, though Pup did sometimes wonder if Kouga had asked and been refused, just going on how much of a fuss the other wolf was making.

He sighed in defeat, "I had no choice... she made a sound argument," And the Gods kknew exactly how stubborn Rose was! She got an idea, sunk her teeth into it and refused to let go... it was one of the things he loved about her. "Everyone already thought she was dead, it would only harm me if she didn't come back since no one else had seen her.... made sence... worried like hell though."

He snorted at the idea of sending Kouga, "May have a grudge against him right now but I didn't want anyone going... Rose included. I would have rather gone myself.... but two alpha's in such a short time?" He shook his head, "Doesn't bode well for the Pack." Wolf knew he would have been more reckless than Rose had... and Rose had been injuried, which means he would likely have been killed.

Wolf smiled, "You so need a woman...." If Wolf had his way he would figure out a way to introduce more females to the pack... and the more he thought about it the more he wondered if he would have move the pack... and would that make his Pack think he was weak? Unable to hold their land? In truth it was an ongoing struggle... and his heart couldn't bear losing someone else, what if next time it was Pup? Or Grey? Or even White? His heart couldn't take it.

Sighing again he tackled his brother, as he had often done before as had all the brothers when they were small, though they had always been careful with him being so small. "Stop that brooding. The pack will find a safe new home I'm sure of it and once we are settled again no one will challenge you for a long time... Even Kouga will come round given time, between his injuries and you steeling his girl hes somewhat sore at the moment. You'll see." Smiling wondering if Wolf knew that Kouga had been wounded trying to get to Rose to save her.

Wolf just assumed that Pup meant the injuries he had given Kouga. He frowned as he was tackled and looked up at brother, batting him away with a paw with no real intent. "What do you think the reaction will be.... if I suggest leaving the forest?" It was something he feared, he knew nothing other than this forest.... same as anyone else. Of everyone he knew that Pup would havethe best insight on the rest of the Pack.

"I think they just want to feel safe again, the pups that have survived will not hold out if we keep moving, a few females are ready to whelp... Everyone wants to b safe and settled again and staying here is neither.... If leaving is what it takes they will follow you."

He sighed, I fear that will be the case...." He didn't do anything for a moment simply starred at the sky as he thought about it all. He would haveto talk to Rose about it.... get another opinion, it wasn't something he could decide on his own... he just hoped Pup was right.

A new scent reached him. "Deer..." he whispered, a smile caressing his lips as he rolled over into a stalking possition. "...let's go grab some dinner for everyone." Again he whispered, not wanting to scar the hunt off.

Pup lifted his head and snuffed, nodding, the idea of dragging home a meal sounded great to him. Getting to his paws quietly, he wasn't a great hunter but he could act as backup, besides he was too used to being the backup to ever think of taking the lead for hunting. Shifting round behind his brother silently before slipping off to flank and drive dinner towards his broter.

Wolf understood his brothers plan and moved into position, stalking, watching, scenting, listening.... in position he waited for the Deer to come his way. The idea of food was definatly a welcome one.

A quick skuffle and the Deer was running straight for Wolf. Pup herding it from behind with snaps from his jaws. Not really big enough to take down a buck like this alone, the pack would eat well today if they managed this.

Wolf saw it, bigger than he would have first expected... but that didn't stop him, he prepared himself, ready to pounce... closer and closer it came... not yet, he told himself, not yet.... He waited, he was good at waiting. When the most opportune moment came he struck, aiming to bite the poor creatures neck, closing its air in the kindest way he could... though with its size even Wolf feared he may need a hand from Wolf.

Jumping into action his jaw snapped into position, blood filled his mouth as he managed to wrestle the creature to the ground. Don't let go. Don't let go.

Pup pounced on the beast, using his weight to hellp hold it down, fiting into whatever flesh he could to help keep hold of it, not able to help in killing it but he was going to keep it gettign away.

Wolf needed to take a deep breath but refused to release the kill. With each moment that passed it struggled less.... until finally it stopped all tgether, he kept his grip for a while longer until he was sure the beast would remain still and dead. Releasing it he pulled back and licked the fresh from mouth. "Thanks Pup." He said, a grin upon his chops... an impressive kill for the pair of them, and enough flesh to feet the Pack. Perhaps a sign that things were about to get better? He could hope.

Wolf did the only thing he could do, he climbed under it, grabbing the neck and bending it a funny angle before standing to his all fours, the deers weight was on top of him but he knew he would need help from Pup to actually get far... or the rear would simply drag and cause him to stop too often to be worth it. "We-only-got-tp-get-close-enough-for-the-others-to-scent-ot" He said with his mouth still firmly closed around the meat.

Wolf didn't go to slow nor too fast, knowing they needed to preserve their energy but at the same time preserve their strength.

They walked for what felt like forever, over fallen logs, rough branches and even through a prickly bush since they had no other option... but now, after serveral stops, they were close.

Sencing an increase in weight behind him as Pup started to struggle Wolf did the only thing he could he stopped and used the rest of his strength to toss the deer of his back. "Ok... we're close enough to bring everyone here.... or to at least get help dragging it back." He grinned, sitting down for a moment and not mentioning how 'touch' or 'easy' or whatever else he may feel towards their darn heavy kill. "So.... how will we pick who plays runner boy?" He grinned, flashing his bloody teeth.

"Stay with it.... that's the job I give you.... " He turned and pretended to glare at him. "But lose it and I will eat you." Laughing again he sulked quietly towards the den... hoping someone was close to them.
