Prompt 13
Consequence

Facing the Music
I sit.
I stare.

Screams ring out.
Some angry.
Some in pain.
Some with sorrow.

My head it hurts.
I need it.
Just once more.
The pain must go.

I’ll get better.
But not now.
Don’t make me.
It’ll all end soon.

I’m ashamed.
I stopped.
Years ago.
It’s just so hard.

Prompt 14
Gratitude

“I give you my life,” she said, relief in her voice.

“No really, it was nothing,” Jasmine said, holding her hands up to prevent a hug from happening.

The girl persistently held her arms out, following the half vampire with every step she took backwards. She wasn’t sure what was going on with this girl. Sure, she saved her from an ogre, but it was her job. This girl needed to go away. Why didn’t she run off the way everyone else did? And it wasn’t like she was a young child either. She had to be at least in her late twenties.

“Please, it’s just a hug. A little something for helping me,” her hazel eyes glittered in happiness.

“Really, look, just stop would you!?” Jassie asked harshly.

That didn’t stop her at all. She just wrapped her arms around Jasmine and pulled her into her warm embrace. She hadn’t been hugged in years. Her cheeks slightly turned red in embarrassment. Deep down, she hoped Ulric, her partner wasn’t able to see this. The hug seemed to last forever. She sighed. Was this what everyone loved to do so much with their friends? Ugh. Finally, they broke apart.

Jasmine smiled and said, “Okay. So now I just need to go-”

“But I owe you my life. We need to trade numbers, at least.”

“No, you don’t owe me a thing. We don’t need to do that,” she sighed.

Where was the clean up crew? Generally after an incident, a crew comes in to handle the aftermath. It all stayed hush hush of course, since no one is to know that these kinds of monster truly are roaming the earth. It was simple. The crew came in, cleaned up the area, if it was real bad, they staged another (more normal) type of accident, and then of course for the people involved, a witch or wizard or whoever could use magic came in and altered the memories of the victims and bystanders. Though at times, some people were brought into the Nightmare Chasers organization, but that was for special situations. Like a death. No one died here. It was a normal situation.

“Are you sure?” The woman insisted, “May I just have your name, then?”

Is she for real?

“Betty,” the half vampire lied.

“Hey,” said a voice from behind, “Is she the only one who saw this?”

Jasmine turned to see a tall, slim woman looking down at her. It was Gretchen, one of the senior witches. Instead of wearing the normal black bodysuit, she wore a professional looking suit and jacket outfit.

“Yeah, she is.”

“Good,” she said quietly, then spoke up, looking to the woman, “Hi there, Amy Johnson from The Southwestern Times, may I get your input on this? What happened here?”

Before the woman could fully reply, Gretchen linked her arm with hers and started walking away. A soft green light appeared on the witch’s hand. She was going to erase the woman’s memory. That was the best way for her to show gratitude.

Prompt 15
Explosion

It was everywhere. On the walls, dripping from the ceiling…it was even on me.

“It exploded!” I yelled into the phone, exasperated.

“Now, honey,” said my husband from over the phone, “I’m sure the blender didn’t literally explode.”

“It feels like it did.”

“Tell me calmly, what happened,” his voice was soothing to my ears.

Putting my hand to my forehead I said, “I walked away from it for a minute to grab some milk out of the fridge, and the cat must of stepped on it because boom! I heard it go off, and partly pureed food was going everywhere!”

“You didn’t put the top on it, right?”

I don’t know if he was just slow that morning but I said, “No, I didn’t, Carl, I meant to put the milk in with it. My back was turned for less than a second!”

Sighing, I just couldn’t believe him sometimes. He chuckled after I told him, and said he’d be over as soon as he could with a smoothie from a new place that just opened up a few weeks ago. Of all things to go wrong. My relaxing smoothie turned into a huge headache.

Prompt 16
Money

All For Money
I can’t believe it,
what they put on the news.
Some things so tragic
others just some big lies.
Were they paid a lot?
How much to keep secrets?
People being hurt.
Is your worth weighed in green?
Why is it this way?
How did we become this?
Are we just monsters?
Is it human nature?
Are we so shallow
or just loving money?

Prompt 17
Traveling Alone

Wanderlust
These busy streets
filled with empty souls
scare me deeply
but I still must go.

I can’t stay still
just like a nomad
the will to leave
burns inside of me.

Not to run off
but to go explore
and see it all
before my time’s up.

But no one comes
they’re more scared then me
or are they sane
while I fulfill dreams?

Prompt 18
Irony

Aurora was running around her small apartment. She couldn’t find it, and at the moment, that was all that mattered. How could she lose it? It was a textbook for crying out loud! Does anyone actually lose a textbook on accident? And it’s so big! The fattest book she’d ever owned. Getting on her knees, she crawled to the bed, and stuck both arms under it. Nothing. Not even dust. Panic set in. How much was it? Expensive – it was brand new. She ran to her backpack, and dumped the contents of it on her floor. No psychology textbook. Where could that stupid book have gone off to? There was a friendly knock at the door, then it opened. A redheaded girl walked in.

“Whoa, did a tornado blow through here?” She asked.

“Yeah. It was called Aurora,” She said, standing up, “What’s up, Jade?”

“Oh,” she started, “I just came by to give you your psychology textbook. You left it in class yesterday.”

“Come again?” Was all Aurora could say.

Prompt 19
Lust

Bodies In Motion
I see him there.
So confident.
I want it so bad.
If only he knew,
knew what I’d do.

With tongues in tune
and nails on skin
our bodies will sing.
Primal instincts know
how to please so.

My breathless scream
and his strong hold
brings us ecstasy.
If I had my way
it’s him today.

Prompt 20
Identity Crisis

She Who Haunts Me
I just wish I knew
who was in the mirror.
Her colorful eyes
don't look a thing like mine.
Are her dreams fulfilled
or shattered completely?
Should I be like her
or stay this lifeless way?
Why was I so scared?
Did they really drain me?
The girl I stare at
will just keep haunting me.
