Rastian is a character in a story I want to write one day, so he has a pretty detailed back story.

Rastian was born Rastian Daemo, the eldest son to Prince Echowen Daemo and his wife Kreeya Daemo. Rastian's real father, Malachi, had taken his own life upon his mother's brutal death just months before Rastian was born. While Kreeya and Malachi were no longer in love with one another, Kreeya had been very close with him as family, and made sure that Rastian understood that he had a father who watched over him and well as a father who was here right now. Rastian's relationship with his mother and step-father was very deep and happy, and remained that way even when his mother gave birth to his younger siblings, Gregory and Mihari. Through all of this, Rastian's childhood and preteen years were wonderful.

Then, shortly after Rastian's 14th birthday, the entire kingdom was struck down by a mysterious plague that destroyed all the crops and drove the villagers insane. This plague eventually caused the villagers to take on a zombie like status, where they could communicate, but had boughts of blind blood lust. The king, Echowen's father, Turant, became the main focus of their blood lust in the following months, and soon, the castle was under attack. All of the guards were murdered rather quickly, so the royal family itself took up arms, all except for Echowen, who decided it was best to try and talk everyone out of their rage. As a result, Echowen's head was chopped off, Kreeya was chased from the village, and everyone else died in similar ways. (Except for Turant and Gregory. Gregory escaped with a family friend and Turant was immortal, making him impossible to kill)

Rastian died with his sword in hand, upon the family graveyard, after he had tried to protect his father from the oncoming onslaught. Weeks passed before the Neutral Lord, also known as the God of Guardians, Ayergae, arrived to assess the damage and take those worthy away with him to the afterlife. There, he found Rastian, and noticed how much magic potential he had, even after death. He then gave the grieving boy a bargain -

"I'll give you your life back, make you immortal, give you an adult's appearance, and bring all of your family members up to Haeven with me, if you'll become my Reaper and bring any and all souls to their respective afterlives whenever I need you to do so."

Rastian, after much thought, accepted the offer, upon the following additional terms.

"I am allowed to visit my family whenever I'd like."

"I am allowed a home of my own."

"Ayergae must figure out why this plague happened and punish whoever is responsible."

"Only if I get to do it on my own time and take however long I want."

And, thus, Rastian was given his life back for eternity, given an age increase, and tasked with bringing all souls to their afterlives for all eternity.

(End story)

Also, Rastian hates taking kids to the afterlife for another reason, because he, himself, died at a young age. Why would he like seeing a child die when he was a child when he died, too?
