Grey yelped in surprise. Humans? Humans here! He ran home. Looking for Wolf. "Wolf! Wolf!" The alpha would know what to do. He always did. His older brother was good at this.
Wolf was busy discussing matters with Wrath, one of his Beta's, when he heard his brothers familiar voice. What was also all too familiar was the fact that he could hear the stress in Grey's voice... something he hadn't heard since their darker days with the skinwalker hunting them.
His instincts flared to life as he indicated for Wrath to followed and rushed to find his brother, it wasn't hard considering the fear laced pheromones the guy was letting off, whatever had happened while he was out hunting clearly had him rattled. "Calm yourself Grey. What is it?" He had no clue what it could be... perhaps the kalona who ruled the mountain above their forest had come down? Wolf was aware that the creature did that from time to time in order to hunt, but he tended to stay away from the wolves, and never ventured towards the den. When they had first settled Wolf had found the kalona's scent about a mile all around their den, as if he had been proving a point without actually posing a threat. Wolf got the message... they would obey the creatures wishes and do it well or they would become his next meal. With his mate, and pups on the way, at the den there was no way he was risking their safety! Perhaps they had been too hasty in settling? Things had become so quietly lately, even the creatures that had answered some call of the kalona seemed to have vanished from the land, and now that the kalona had what was taken back a strange tranquil equilibrium had settled. He almost wanted to curse himself! If anything happened... he would never forgive himself! It was his job to protect his wolves after all!
Wrath nodded to Wolf, unable to speak he was all about expressions and movements, each important. Still he knew his alpha understood him, even without words.... actions sometimes spoke much louder anyway, that was something Wrath had learnt. Still he followed Wolf, curious too to know what had rattled Grey so much.

Grey's ears drooped as he looked at Wolf. Nerves building. "Two-legger... I saw them... lots of them.... looks like they are building a den!" Would Wolf hurt the messenger? Even by accident? Sure he knew his brother better than that but this was different.... a threat to his mate! Pregnant mate at that.
"Fire... I smelt fire. So I went to look." He shook his head, looking from Wolf to Wrath. "There were wolves too. I saw them."
Two-legger? Here? So close to his mountain? If there was one thing he had learnt about the kalona... he would not like that! Not one bit. Yet that wasn't the most disturbing point, they had wolves? Clearly not from his den, he would have noticed if anyone was missing, been informed... but wolves... was that why they had come? Had they come looking for them?
A growl was tore from his throat and he was utterly p*ssed off at the mere idea! They would not be hunted! They were predators, and this land had been earned as their own! He watched Grey cowering and knew he had to calm down, at least in front of his brother. A clear head would help him think anyway. "You did well Grey. Thanks. Just tell me the direction and leave the rest to us. There is food from Kouga's hunt already there, go and relax, see Rose." He knew that Rose would comfort him, and that the other alpha's comfort would aid him right now. He hated seeing him like this. Too many bad memories. Too much pain. A repeat would not happen! None of his wolves would be harmed in this... his dazzling blue eyes glanced to the mountain... even if he had to ask for his help.
Turning to Wrath he said gruffly; "Change of plan old friend. We're going to investigate this sighting... and scare away the threat if possible." Though a niggling in his bones told him it wouldn't be that easy.
Wrath bore his fangs for a moment at the news before controlling himself, a two-legger? Here? Nasty horrible creatures in his experience! They liked to use their pelts as rugs and bedding! He shuddered at the thought... and they had wolves with them? No! No! No! No! NO! He would not let them be harmed!
He looked at his alpha when addressed and nodded. If he could have spoken it would likely have been a simple Let's go, he was just as eager as Wolf to get this over with.

Grey relaxed a little. "Ok." And ran off to the pack. Surrounded by everyone else was so much better than being alone. Maybe he could hunt as a pair? Later, much later, he would ask.
Wolf ran along side Wrath, following the scent trail that Grey had left behind in his haste, he would admit that he liked being a wolf when it came to his sense of smell... who was he kidding, he loved being a wolf and would never change that!
When they came to the edge of the forest, and the smell of fire lingered in the air he paused a little. The tracks showed more than one two-legger... different sized feet... and just as Grey had said... wolf tracks. They didn't seem dragged or forced though, was a wolf happy to be with this group? That couldn't be right! What wolf wouldn't crave for freedom?
Knowing this was the last time he would actually get to say anything without being detected he simply said. "Let's split up. Just perimeter and meet back here." He was off before he waited for a reply.
He almost froze.... there was a lot more than one two-legger here! But a whole pack of them...! He could see structures made of tree and... something else... and a fire in the middle surrounded by logs. They were cutting down his forest?! He snarled as he investigated more, he caught sight of Wrath a time or two but the wolf never lingered for long as he took took in everything.
Wrath ran off at the same time as Wolf, exploring the den being set up by the two-leggers. On one side it was a pretty impressive accomplishment. They weren't directly in the forest, but it was clear from the sharp looking weapons he found that they at least hunted in it. He found rabbits hung up, the smell of herbs and other plants hanging in the air, fire, blood...? Why was there blood? Inching closer to the source he was surprised when he saw the most beautiful wolf he had ever seen! Slinking behind one of the structures he hid so he could just watch her... she didn't seem in trouble, didn't even seem like she was being forced to stay... so why? Why was here?
Even though he was aware that Wolf would be making his way back to the meeting point... he couldn't just walk away from her.

Sayen paused, she could have sworn she had seen a flash of white. Curious she moved closer to investigate. The trail seemed to fade a little but there was definitely another wolf... a white wolf! She blinked in surprise and tilted her head, "Oh hello." A smile lite up her face even as she shifted her head to make her bag sit more comfortably. "I didn't know there were other wolves around."
Dowanhowee watched curiously as the little she-wolf walked away, "Exploring again?" She wondered to herself as she set about finishing off the basket she was making. It was nice to finally have a place to stop and call home. It was a beautiful spot, the spirit of the wolves seem to be strong here, the forest was gorgeous and bountiful and the mountain loomed protectively over them. Who could ask for more? Whistling she set about working, together with Ptaysanwee and Luyu she was sure they would have three baskets finished by the end of the day.
Wolf finds himself sniffing at some of the interesting things in baskets and containers out in the sun before shaking the haze from his mind and running off to reach the rendezvous point, not wanting Wrath to have to wait all too long.
Of course when he arrived... Wrath was not there. Standing on guard, ears raised and waiting for any noises or sign of distress to reach him he hoped that his old friend hadn't run into trouble.... that was a lot of two-leggers! And if they liked wolves as he feared... they were in trouble!
Wrath tilted his head at her words, her voice held an almost sing-songy and even as his eyes darted behind her as if he was worried about who was about to come out and try and snatch him he still couldn't tear his eyes away from her. He backed up though, indicating towards the forest as if silently begging her to follow me, he would feel much safer away from the two-legger den! He just hoped she would follow... especially since her wolfish curiosity had evidently been peeked at the presence of another wolf.

Tilted her head at him. Why didn't he just ask? Was it some male thing? Still, she wanted to play, and another wolf was always exciting! "Sure thing big guy, we can go to the forest." Not too far though, she didn't want to stray too far from her sisters and home. Maybe the stranger would relax there? She hoped so, his muscles were bunched so tightly she was afraid he was was going to bounce like a spring at any minute. "What's your name? I'm Sayen." She offered, her bag slipping against her neck a little as she moved, a familiar and comforting weight.
Entering the woods she padded at the floor and wiggled her rump, her tail swaying. It was so freeing here, so different was the war riddled land they had moved away from.
Wrath ruffled his pelt with a shake of his head, neck, back and tail before turning to face her, he shrugged a little, unable to give his name due to lack of voice... would she think he was betraying her if he led her towards where he knew Wolf was? Would that be considered bad? ....because despite everything he really wanted to impress her... but..... what should he do?
