~ General Setting ~

. . . . . . .

((This should have been added earlier, but it somehow got skipped over and forgotten about until recently. Sorry guys, but hopefully this will clear up any confusion and help you guys understand the setting a bit better))

The world of Semesta is in a medieval fantasy setting vaguely resembling the late 1400s of western history. i.e medieval Europe.

Your biggest cities are cobble stone streets, brick and wood buildings around grand towering castles. Smaller towns may lack the cobblestone paths instead having dirt roads and simpler timber houses.

Most political regions contain at least one fortress which often acts as a sanctuary to people under siege and a keystone to maintaining control of a region.

Each nation is set up as a monarchy, with everyone inside it holding different ranks of social standing. These ranks typically determine your levels of influence within your society. They also have their own sets of customs and traditions which will probably effect those raised or living in each nation.

The deities of this world are Mali, Maki and Khoi. These are the only ones regarded by the masses and ingrained in this world's history. Though like with all cultures, there are many fabricated deities created by smaller groups for various reasons.

~ Technology ~

. . . . . . .

The level of technology stems from the middle ages, such as no electrical systems, automobiles, or plumbing on average. Factories do not exist, so mass production of anything besides crops isn't available. You'll still need to see a cobbler for a pair of shoes, a seamstress for a new dress, a tanner for a leather pouch, a bowmaker and fletcher for your hunting gear, and a blacksmith for your armor, and metal tools. Luckily the merchant quarter is crawling with such artisan businesses. There's craftspeople of greater skill here and there across the world as well.

However, there is a mix of magic and sorcery that is applied to daily life and convenience as well. Where medical efforts may prove ineffectual there are spells to cure and cull diseases. Water elementals have also been widely regarded as masters of the healing arts, since some can manipulate water to act as a healing agent. Magic can also be used to imbue objects with special properties such as reinforcement or illumination.

Most technology is very limited in this world. There are few that have pursued this avenue due to the fact most rely on magic based solutions since it has become more common place and easier to use.

Weapons and Armaments are generally constructed of bronze, iron, steel, wood, or mythic materials of metallic or fibrous nature and are all generally hand crafted by a blacksmith. This means that while an elf may appear wearing leafweave or mythril armor, a plastic riot shield would be unheard of. Magical enhancements can be placed upon weapons, armor, and imbued into artifacts.

Advancements in weapons still resemble their predecessors, which basically means things such as swords, knives, daggers, bows, and the like, would be common to find. Things such as guns or higher forms of weaponry would still be in the works to those who specialize in areas of technological advancements, and would not yet exist in this time period.

~ Religion ~
. . . . . . .

As previously mentioned, the deities of this world are Mali, Maki and Khoi.

Mali and Maki are the deities that belong to the Elementals and can be thought of as the "official religion" of Semesta. These two were the ones to give them life and reconstruct the world into the nations we see today. Because of this, you can find two temples, dedicated to each, in all four nations. Typically those of a higher noble birth are raised to believe strongly in these two, being that their bloodlines are the purest to their element and they have a stronger connection to their origin. Those of lower ranks, can be found to hold a hodgepodge of beliefs, since they are not as strongly connected to their element, sometimes having the occasional in-home shrine to other fabricated gods of their choosing.

Though the general consensus over much of Semesta, is that Mali and Maki are the ones to which respect is due and and the shrines provide a place where one can go when seeking guidance. The monarchs of each nation have specific funding set aside to go towards the up keep of their shrines as well as donation bins at each, that the general public and contribute to. (Though they already contribute through taxes whether they like it or not). Those who work in the shrines are in many cases those that grew up there as orphans, or in some nations attended as students, though regardless they are all very passionate about their work.

Khoi on the other hand, can be considered the deity of the Non-Elementals. He was created through the violence from Elementals on Non-Elementals and was born in a young girl's heart. His domain, is that of the void, and he is able to take away the Elemental's ability to connect to their element, turning them into Non-Elementals. Many Elementals believe him to be a myth, but there are many Non-Elementals who believe in his power and follow his cause. This is how the Verden formed.

There are no specific shrines for Khoi, as much of the elemental world does not accept as legitimate. Though those who wish to worship him will find his presence the strongest on the island of Kainat. However, it is a dead island, so not many ships will be willing to make the trip there without a hefty fee.

~ Vatra of Flames ~
. . . . . . .

Vatra is regarded as a military nation. It excels at creating new technology and weapon making. The people here tend to be loud and out spoken, often carried by their tempers. Brawls or the occasional fist fight are a pretty common occurrence in the larger cities. However, they also tend to be extremely loyal and their relationships with others are highly valued.

Children here are mainly raised to either be fighters or blacksmiths, due to the nation's economy primarily being stimulated by new weaponry. High levels of physical fitness and agility are also fairly common among much of the population because of this.

Those who go on to become soldiers are trained to be cunning and ruthless. They are skilled battle strategists that use both regular weapons as well as hidden ones. For them there is no shame in deception during a fight. They use what tools they have and always fight for a worthy cause.

~ Clouds of Aria ~
. . . . . . .

Aria is known for both scientific and spiritual research that the other nations use. It also supplies lumber and other resources, such as oil and coal, to the other nations. The people here tend to be on the quieter side of the spectrum as most are collected with their thoughts. They are very family oriented, and typically follow the path of their parents, but there are some free spirits who travel all over the world.

Depending on their parents background, children are either enrolled in the schools located in the larger cities or sent away to achieve spiritual enlightenment at the shrines of Mali and Maki. Those who excel in either go on to be scientists or spiritual leaders. Many of the rest will go on to work in lumber or mining.

Their military is made up of defensive fighters that rely on speed rather than strength. They are well known for their agility and quick thinking.

~ Plains of Jord ~
. . . . . . .

Jord is an agricultural nation that acts as the world's food supplier. They produce lots of things, from fruits and vegetables, to meat and fish, as well as various crops. The people here are usually friendly and easy going in nature. Though they also have a strong sense of family and commitment, and do not make promises unless they mean it.

Children here are typically raised on farms and from an early age learn the essentials of hard work. Parents here don't really see the need to send their children to school, and instead teach them everything they feel is crucial to their family trade, be it farming, fishing, etc. When the children are older, they typically take over the family business and continue their work, passing it from generation to generation.

Those in the military are trained to rely heavily on strength. They are a brute force that will charge straight into battle when given the order.

~ Mesa of Mist ~
. . . . . . .

Mesa is mostly known for its medicine and renowned doctors but it is also a place of luxury. Many resorts and vacationing areas are within it's bounds. The people who live in this nation are usually pretty calm and quiet by custom. They highly regard politeness within their society as well as privacy. They like to avoid conflict with others and should it arise, usually deal with it behind the scenes and away from the public eye.

There are many schools in this nation, since they see education as a high priority. Most of it's citizens have some level of education because of this, and many go on to become healers or scientists. Those who prefer to take life as it comes, usually find themselves living in or around the many tourist locations located along the beaches, where they set up shop or give tours to the vacationers.

For those involved in the military, they are trained to be strategists. They are defensive fighters that prefer to outsmart their opponent rather than charge right into battle.
