“Neo, would it trouble you terribly if Air and I took a mission?”
The Meowstic practically spat out his tea at the question, so shocked was he to hear it being spoken by his Lucario teammate. Shooting a glance at his partner, who sat across the table, Neo spotted a look of shared confusion on the Vulpix’s face, albeit more contained than his own. “...By yourselves?” Neo asked after a moment, and, receiving a nod, stared at Lux with further disbelief. “But...why?”
The Lucario chuckled, watching his captain’s aura fluctuate wildly with confusion as he explained himself. “Well I’ve been keeping an eye on Air and it occurred to me that his talent could use a little refinement. He’s really got a knack for transformations but there are a few things I doubt he’s tried that could really improve his usefulness.” Not that the Ditto wasn’t useful already--he was, perhaps, the most useful and versatile member of their Team--but Lux knew a few tricks that he was increasingly certain Air would benefit from. “While I could teach him these things here, he’s been a bit restless as of late and neither of us have had the opportunity to do any independent fieldwork since joining, so I thought if we claimed a mission and completed it the pair of us could kill two birds with one stone.”
Neo nodded hesitantly after a moment, following the logic in Lux’s train of thought. “But wouldn’t you like one of us to go with you?” he said, almost hopefully, “We are the captains after all, isn’t it a little strange if we don’t go on a mission for our own Team?”
Lux shook his head gently. “I wouldn’t think so, consider it a chance to take a break from all the hard work you put into running the Team for us.” The Lucario said reassuringly. “Besides, I imagine you two will have your hands full looking after the children and Killian.”
A good natured laugh bubbled out of Neo’s throat and he smiled, glancing up at the Golurk who was watching their conversation from the corner of the room he’d claimed as his own. “I guess you’re right there,” he said. “Well, I guess it’s fine by me if Nyx is okay with it.”
He turned to his partner expectantly and found the Vulpix nodding, which came as another surprise. “I think it’s a wise decision,” Nyx said, “The Guild expects us to handle these requests regularly, so it’s an ideal set of circumstances. I hope your training goes well.”
Lux nodded, the taste of almonds on his tongue as he watched Nyx’s blackness swirling gently in a contained manner. He’d already spoken with the Vulpix at length about what he had planned for Air, and Nyx fully approved of the idea; it was only beneficial for the captains to have strong team members, and with two members of their team being incapable of active status it made it all the more important that those who were active could make up for the slack. Lux, of course, was far less concerned with that than with helping Air to recognize his own talent more fully, but he’d sold it to Nyx in this manner and the Vulpix had taken to it in a heartbeat. “Thank you,” the Lucario said warmly, “I think this will be a most educational experience for both of us. We’ll be heading out right away then. I don’t want to waste any daylight.”
