A brief overview of their life so far
xxxxxxxxxxHabagat (or Gat for short) grew up in the Scepters with his older sister Amihan. Their parents died when Gat was too young to remember them and he and his sister were taken in by a bachelor uncle. His uncle was not very hands-on when it came to raising Gat and Ami, their uncle would buy them anything to keep them out of his hair. His uncle often declared that he was working on securing them a good future and shouldn't be disturbed. Gat eventually stopped counting on his uncle's presence, except as an outstretched hand with a wallet at the ready.

As a result Ami ended up being more of a parent-figure to Gat and did her best to raise him herself. She has her heart in the right place but Gat was more grounded and sometimes more responsible than his sister. In an odd way, they were each other's parent-figure though both Gat and Ami saw themselves as the actual parent.

Whether or not they're an orphan from the cache
xxxxxxxxxxHe's an orphan but not from the cache though he's never really met his parents.

How their status as an orphan or non-orphan has effected them
xxxxxxxxxxGat doesn't harbor any ill-feelings for his uncle but he doesn't have any fondness either. Mostly, he's neutral about him. He has a close relationship with his sister that even after he asserted his independence and asked for space, he still stays in contact with her.

One event that changed their life or affected them
xxxxxxxxxxGat was at that age where he was too big to be little and too little to be big. Yes, it was the uncomfortable, awkward in-between age and it showed in the way his uncle treated him. His uncle had asked him about his opinion on a business venture involving animals, and at first Gat thought his uncle was sincere.

He wasn't hungry for the older chimera's approval or attention but the subject involved animals, specifically the feasibility of raising non-indigenous familiars in the Scepters. Gat had ideas and he had the studies to back up his claims. It was one of the rare few times he showed genuine excitement and interest in something his uncle was involved in. But well-researched points were brushed off as mere "childish fancies" because they did not coincide with the answers his uncle was looking for.

Amihan had heard the tail-end of their conversation and got into a huff over the way their uncle spoke to Gat. And for her effort, she was condescended to for becoming too emotional.

"I mean, just look at your brother! You don't see him blubbering about or getting into a childish hissy fit. You ought to act your age, Amihan, or they might not accept you into Leviathan on grounds of immaturity."

And because Gat was at that age where he was too big to be little and too little to be big, all he could do was hold his tongue while his sister and uncle went into a screaming match. This is pointless., Gat thought and wordlessly excused himself. If he stayed, he would have seen both his uncle and sister calm down and apologize to each other for losing their cool.

How they feel about their race
xxxxxxxxxxGat could take or leave the chimeras. Or any Nightmare or Daydream, really. He generally prefers the company of animals because they're much simpler to deal with.

Their goals in life
xxxxxxxxxxGat wants to be a veterinarian or a wild life park ranger. He basically just wants to deal with animals and familiars rather than other people.

Positive and negative traits.
- nihilistic; Growing up with someone as expressive and affectionate as his sister, Gat learned the folly of wearing your heart on your sleeve through Ami's example. While he admires Ami's continued optimism and openness, he doesn't see the point and doesn't want to risk making the same mistakes as she did when it comes to relationship. Namely in having one because people will always disappoint you, one way or another.

- dishonest; Not in the compulsive liar sense. Gat's just not very good with admitting his feelings to anyone other than himself. He's very good at acknowledging them but letting another person in on it? No, get off of my emotion-lawn, gosh darn it!

= taciturn; Gat grew up with Ami doing nearly all the talking for them and was content to keep his silence. He only speaks when it's really important and besides, the familiars and animals respond to him just fine with other auditory commands and signals. Also he doesn't like the sound of his own voice, he thinks it sounds goofy.

= stoic; Tying in with his dishonest nature, it's easier to convince someone that you're fine and to leave you to your own devices if you never show your true feelings. This is a neutral trait because it's also a means to prevent fights from starting if you don't openly show your general disdain for the world.

+ patient; He has Ami to thank for this. He loves his sister, he truly does, but Ami tends to be excessively enthusiastic and impulsive. Sure she can be fun to be with and her energy is infectious but he knows from personal experience that the best way to handle an excited Ami was to let her simply babble long enough for her to get tired. This skill has been a tremendous help when dealing with animals.

+ protective; Gat doesn't have a lot of things he holds dear. So when he does value someone or something, he will do everything in his power to ensure their safety even to his own detriment.

+ grounded; Dreams are nice and all, hoping and wishing are so-so distractions, but Gat knows that action is oftentimes much more important. He doesn't go for flights of fancies and is very cautious in his dealings.

Prompt One
Something has just reminded your Nightmare of a poignant memory. What was it, and what was the memory?

Gat watched as the nezubat wobbled in mid-flight and resisted the urge to reach out and pluck it from the air before it collapsed. He'd been volunteering at the shelter for quite some time but the instinct to protect these familiars was as strong as they'd been since he was a freshling.

He knew he had to hold back. He knew that if he stopped these familiars from fully trying out their healed wings they'd never fully recover. And when the nezubat sharply dipped down, Gat's wings snapped behind him as he dove after it. He held out until the very last second when the familiar suddenly swooped back up and he barely managed to do the same.

The nezubat flew back into the wild where it belonged. And Gat hovered in the air, watching it until it was nothing more than a speck in the distance. He felt a sense of pride in the nezubat's recovery and he couldn't help but think of his sister.

He'd stared at her in utter disbelief. "You what?"

"I'm going to teach you how to fly~"

He instinctively took a step back from her. It wasn't that he questioned her intentions. This was his
sister. His loving, excitable, energetic, impulsive sister always had his best in mind so he knew she was coming from a very honest and caring place. But this was his sister. His loving, excitable, energetic, way-too-impulsive-for-anyone's-good sister. And she wanted to teach him to fly.

"I can fly just fine, Ami."

"Nyuuuuu~ I see you struggling on those u-turns. C'mon! I got some tips and tricks that will help you~ I'm super sure of that!"

She grabbed him by the wrist and despite her slender appearance she was stronger than she looked. Gat didn't want to admit it but he did need a little help in refining his technique. He was great in terms of endurance and flying over long distances but when it came down to it,
Amihan ruled the skies near their home. Even their uncle acknowledged her finesse and aerial prowess.

It was one thing to watch her fly. It was another to put your life in her hands while you fly. (Or in anyone's hands come to think of it.) She persisted and Gat gave in because he figured if he could prove she couldn't help him she might drop the whole matter entirely. And that's when he saw another side of his sister that he never thought existed.

The dreamy, airy look on her face was gone. The aura she gave off was authoritative and serious and eerily similar to Gat's own whenever he was dealing with a particularly violent familiar.

There was no drawl, no prolonged syllables when she spoke. Her words were short, her instructions concise, and Gat eventually found his misgivings unfounded. And so brother and sister spent more and more time on these flight lessons, and each time Ami's feet were off the ground, the drill instructor was there. She was never mean or insulting but she did not sugar coat her opinions either.

Then one day, she said she would teach him how to pull up from a nosedive. Gat didn't think he'd ever need to use such a dangerous maneuver but Ami insisted. And the ensuing lessons had been the most painful, grueling thing Gat ever went through. It wasn't the drills, or the exercises, the strength building. It was the fear and terror of failure.

The first time he ever went into a full nosedive, he panicked. He didn't normally show his feelings but there was something about the way the ground rapidly rushing up towards you that made the mask drop. The next thing he knew, he had his eyes shut and the air-currents suddenly shifted and he felt like his chest was going to collapse in on itself. But the pressure eased and the wind stopped screaming in his ears, which left
his screaming in his ears.

When he realized he was fine and that slender but strong arms were holding him, Gat opened his eyes and saw his sister smirking at him. She was flying up higher and higher and while Gat waited for her to let go, she said "You didn't pass out! Not a bad first try, Gat."

High praise considering it came from Ami's serious side. They continued to ascend and just as the color was returning to Gat's cheeks, his sister said "Let's do that again."

And she promptly dropped him.

Gat remembered needing a change of clothes after that first lesson. He got better at controlling himself with each fall and even reached the point he went into the dive on his own. And always, always, his sister managed to catch him. The bruises from impact were unavoidable but he never got seriously hurt.

He didn't know how his sister knew he would need it one day. He really ought to talk to her more. Maybe even see how she was doing being the Academy's Flight Instructor. Would she be allowed to teach her students the nosedive? A rare smile pulled at his lips at the thought of Ami subjecting another chimera to such hands-on learning.

Yeah, maybe he will pay her a visit. Someday. When his own work load wasn't so full.
