It was her turn to have her eyes light up with surprise. She giggled, the sound harmonious when soft compared to when she really got going -- to her shrieking laughter.
"I've been trying!" she assured. "They're awful persnickety. The old rules about how to pick 'em suck, too. They want you to like, get a dog screamed at by them. I don't wanna do all that."

Ikebana smiled and nodded sympathetically--plants alone were difficult to keep thriving, healthy and happy. Magical plants were a whole new category of frustrations and banging-heads-against-walls.
"Mm." He frowned in agreement to her reluctance to sacrifice a dog's sanity to the mandragora. He took his time replying, but it was obvious from his slow gait and unfocused gaze that he was turning the problem over in his head. "If you like, I could look a few things up. Perhaps my tradition has another solution. I would not mind seeing one, myself."

At this, her brows raised. The look on her face was somewhere between skeptical and intrigued. Mandrake stalled her own pace so she didn't trail too far ahead.
"You really want to?" Most folks she knew didn't want to mess around with plants like that. Of the phonies she knew, which granted weren't many outside of her own family, Mandrake could only peg Obi for having any curiosity toward such a plant. A short second after she asked, she realized how sincere the question sounded and flustered. "It'll be tough! I've been trying to come up with plenty of alternatives."

"That's alright," said Ikebana with a nod, and although he wasn't smiling, it was obvious that he was in good humor. "No promises. I'll look." He paused then, and then added: "I'm just a little tougher than I look.

Mandrake had to fight the corners of her mouth from spreading too far. She looked him over again, up and down just like a few minutes ago when they first met up. With a quick snark, she shoved his shoulder with a hoof. "Yeah, we'll see!" She hurried along, back to her previous gait to hide her eager grin.

Ikebana moved with her shove easily and gave a laugh, then quickened his pace to follow her. Although it hadn't exactly been what he'd planned for, this outing had certainly, certainly cured his boredom blues.
Now, if only he could think of a good plan for the mandragora hunt...
