Basic Idea: slaves wear very basic, barely there masks... members wear average masks... important folks wear elaborate masks... only mothers, mates, and owners know the true faces of their cubs, mates, slaves, respectively. Everyone else... who knows? ::mysterious music::

Further Thoughts
Slaves only wear a smear of paint across their eyes (or more) to denote their belonging to the pride, but not being worthy of proper privacy and decency.
Families can often have a theme to their masks... an item included, or a particular look/animal implied, or a common color scheme.
Mask makers, or everyone makes their own?
Multiple masks common, allowed, or restricted?
Feline only? Lion only?
Is there a god of Masks for them to worship already?
Caste system likely best option. Slave, Low, Middle, Upper. Different names for them? Low may not own slaves.
Why do they wear masks? Considered decent and proper. Provides privacy and indicates importance. How did it begin? (Does it matter?)
What sort of ranks?

beasts of burden, cleaners, assistants in any job, can be skilled and used for that skill, but never allowed credit.
Low
hunters, go-fers, nannies
Middle
Hunt Leaders, herbalists, basic crafters, guards, all low jobs
High
artisans, healers, Lead Crafters, soldiers, clergy, all middle jobs, no low jobs
Royal
King, Queen, Heirs, Dowagers, Generals, all High jobs, no middle or low jobs

Can climb ranks via rps.
Can marry out of rank, assume whichever rank is higher.
Lottery every so once in a while for ranking? Present self to be rolled for same, higher, or lower. Can choose to remain unrolled (non-participants assumed here?) Maybe must present a single rp to keep rank? Can present multiple rps to raise rank OOCly, lottery result IC?
