Well to get back on the subject point i believe that Jareth resembles the strong likings of a Sidhe ( pronounced Shee) they are the higher classed faeries that usually reign above the others.
The Seelie and Unseelie courts are reigned by two Sidhe Queens.
Another example is that they are the rulers of dreams, an example of this is Jareth giving Sarah her dream of being a heroin in a fairytale.
Sidhe possess the mixed features of elves and humans, many say they have the better parts of humans and angels. They are taller with more angular features then most other Faes.
sidhe are cousins to vampires ( yeah! )
They are immortal, like all Fae.
Fae is known to be all Faerie types so Sidhe is a better name to classify Jareth.
Oh and since Brian Froud helped create the Labyrinth i would assume he created the Goblin King to be a Sidhe i am getting most of this information from his book, Good Faerie Bad Faerie.

OMNIDRINK there are different type of faerie folk. He is a Fae or Sidhe, one in the same, just 2 different names.
They're almost elven like, but are mischievous in nature and hauntingly beautiful. They possess glamour and have the ability to shape shift.  The overloards of tomorrow, today! Brought to you by OMNIDRINK
