I was watching this today (if you want to watch it, go to YouTube, it's easier...) and I found out what most Gundam series were missing...
No, not the "song saves the world" but the extravegant dog fight.
I mean, Zero is 2002. SEED finished (?), and SEED Destiny started, and look at it's animation quality...
WTF?
Why wouldn't they do it?
Budget? ->I wouldn't think so, b/c it rakes in SO much money
Time? ->probable, but still, rather see something beautiful than some good/some bad
NOTE: Unless I am mistaken, Macross Zero battle scenes are not repeats.
so yea, should Gundam also venture into a 3D battle animation?

"dog fight" is a term used to describe aircraft fighting each other. In Gundam, they don't really need to do that - most fighters are infact mobile suits that'll now transform to such and stab each other instead.
"3d animation" is an oxymoron - it's either a 3d rendered film, or a cartoon animation. Though it is possible to make the 3D things look like a cartoon, as is the case with Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma robot - it was NEVER hand-drawn in the show, always a 3d model.

throughout Macross, they reder to the fights as "dog fighting"
I mean, yea w call dog fights:
a.) two or more dogs fighting each other
b.) two or more planes fighting each other in a close combat situation
however, if we take into context of the era they live in, and the technological advancements, we can still say, mech to mech is dog fighting...
as well, b/c I been on Gundam the Ride, I know fully, that a CG type battle is still worth it.

Personally, I don't really like the Mechs in Macross Zero - I prefer it when they are just using Fighters on the beggining episode, actually... sweatdrop
That fight scene absolutely spanks peen by the way, if y'all ain't seen it.
