Ok, first off, I just cleaned my tank 4 days ago, aside from a 6.6 or so (which the fish have gotta be used to by now )PH everything's fine. Now, a few months ago (could be a few weeks, life passes me by and I don't pay attention) my rainbow had a sort of nobly thing on his side. I figured it was a tumor or something, but it went away and the side healed. However, two weeks ago (mainly last week) he's seemed to developed a raw bit on his side.
last week it had 3,4 white bits on the open area... not quite fuzzy like fungus but much too big for ich. Similarly, I noticed a similar raw-bit on another rainbow's nose:
They look similar enough that I'm concerned, but I'm not sure what exactly it is. I've been treating with Pima and Mela -fix and right now it seems to be not getting any worse (which I assume is the first step.) However, I did think I saw a bit of fungus around the ends of one of my raspora's tail- at the same time, he got into my pre-filter box so he just might have been roughed up from the trip. Basically, should I keep doing the Mela and Pima -fixes or should I maybe add something else? I'm going to toss in a little bit of salt now too, but I mean medicine-wise.
Sorry to bother you all, but the guy (who seemed to be the resident "expert") said some things that were so untrue I doubt all of his advice. (that is mainly 3 points: "never wait 1 month to clean your tank" - if your tank your levels are fine and you don't have too many fish, that's exactly how often you should, according to every training manual, magazine, aquarium insert, and person I've ever talked to "I clean my tanks every week" - you're doing something very, very wrong if you have to clean every week. ('cept maybe light gravel cleanup for Oscars or something) "those aren't really medicines" - they might be naturally derived and more like 'tonics', but they TREAT diseases, that's what I call a medicine) I always hated people who didn't listen to me as an employee but... I just can't bring myself to trust him.
