This thread is for those of us who have different interperetations of certain deities than what is commonly believed about them. So if you believe something different about a God or Goddess than what was taught to you in school or than what most books say about them, here's the place to talk about it 3nodding
And please, please, please remember to be respectful of everyone here, even if they say something you don't agree with. Remember that as Pagans we are all sacred and have the ability to interperet the divine for ourselves.

And now for my actual contribution to this.
My patron Goddess is Athena, Greek Goddess of Wisdom. Most accounts of Greek mythology lable her a "daddy's girl" who bows to the subservience of women and lives to serve men in all ways but marriage. However, I do not see her like that at all, and my personal experience with her shows me a very different Goddess. I do not interperet her as a force set up to support men and ensure their dominance over women. Instead, I see her as a force of female wisdom and strength. I consider her a virgin in the sense that she is not attached to any man, not that she is celibate and asexual. I see her as a lesbian, actually, and like to pair her with Artemis. I also think that she advocates gender equality through her strength, despite what the writings from Ancient Greece say about her.

Shinys I see Isis as big sisterly really?? i see her as a protective mother...i actually sometime call her mom while i'm doing a ritual..don't know...the first time the word just poped out of my mouth! i thought she was going to complain or something but she said she liked me calling her like that... 4laugh tha's why i isis is my patron goddess i just trust her a 100%!!

I too see Isis as a motherly figure, but I can understand how one could see her as sisterly. That's cool, Shinys 3nodding I think I'm personally inclined to see most Goddesses as mother figures, my Lady Athena included.

I'm a mother, and therefor somewhat more on her level?

Sekhmet! She is usually portraed as the ultra violent "I'll bite your head off if you mess with me" kind of goddess. She sems a lot more relaxed than the high strung lioness detiy i've heard of.

a few things. The celtic gods especially seem very friendly, save fo cernunnos. he's distant, sometimes moody, and very mystically mysterious, in the sense that he likes to make you work for information and figure things out. he's more like a hunting buddy or a comrade at arms than anything else really.
Morrigan, i would think, might be one of the first recorded vampires in history. she does many things and says many things reminiscent of sanguine vampirism, and still more reminiscent of psychic vampirism.
Now. i have come into contact with Oden and thor a few times. Oden rides his eight legged horse through my woods alot. and his one eye is very bright and has a shine to it. its not a natural eye but something else. i'm not too familiar with his legends, but i know he gave one eye for knowledge of the runes, and i would assume he would want it back. i made a visit to valhalla some time ago as well. thor is very friendly, i found. he's actually taken quite a shine to me. oh, and oden has a nice sword. i asked him to give ti to me but he refused.
