Well those the Vi came here to this land.
They killed and conquered and brought thier religion here before the christains did.
The last non christin statue that stoon in Dublin city was of Thor
it stood at the the of the river liffey's tidal estuary, until it was toppled into the water.

Dublin takes it's name from an Dubh Linn, the black pool of the river and from
it being a Dyffin, a river port that allowed the long ship to venture far inland.

So it is all a point of perspective tbh.

I'd like to know where you get your information.

The Vikings didn't come concouring for the sake of spreading their religion...

They were first and foremost merchants, as has been proven in the last decade or so, even if the schoolbooks are still not perfectly adjusted to the correct facts..

Seeing as it's quite impossible to go anywhere without taking your faith with you I don't see the point in mentioning it...
Christianity has been spread by the point of the sword more often than not...
And it is mentioned in those writings that the Viking settlement was a trading-post for most of europe...

Should be mentioned that most historians now agree that the so called "viking raiders" were early pirates.. who were the massive minority of the viking people... the overwhelming majority were merchants and farmers, even at the time when the raids did occur... After all, if they had all been raiders, Ireland would have seen a lot more than the yearly hit and run wink

It did to start with but then some of them decided to stay and settle down and
intermarry.

My whole family is christian, does anyone have any ideas on how I could tell them I'm not? Anyway back to the subject. I get sort of irritated about how they are so convinced that christianity is the one right religion when most of the holidays and practices come from other religions,Yule, cough, cough! And then there’s the fact that their history is pretty much them forcing their beliefs down peoples throat's.

Norse pagans didn't die out through battle they died out through assimilation.

Rikadyn Cerise
I believe, those who practice the faith, with kindness and seek to live in harmony with their neighbors, and do not pass judgement are good people who we ourselves should show the same honors to.

Those, however, wish to oppress and preach that those who do not bow and become slaves, following what they say blindly, I invite them to meet me on the field, with steel on steel, and we shall see who's god favors whom.

Is it ok to love you a little? lol

Reminded me of a line from Dark Kingdom. whee heart I loved that movie. Haven't seen it in forever.

As far as the vikings being assimilated by the christians, they have themselves to blame for a good share of it. The leaders of the time saw christianity as a means to power (sound familiar?) and sought to convert their own people in an attempt to unite them.

@SS On the off chance you see this, can you edit your post, please? One of your links has stretched the page out. sweatdrop
