I've been medicated for Moderate Depression and Anxiety for about a month now. I take my medication consistantly and at the same time, every day, as with many medications time variances can cause medication to be somewhat to severly less effective.

However, recently (i'll say about half a week, give or take a day or two) I've been feeling depressed again. The medication was working well and effectively, however now I feel as though I'm getting worse. The doctor told me that I might experience hostility and quite possibly suicidal thoughts while my levels of energy slowly built back up, however, this is not the case.

I am scheduled to see the doctor later this week, but I am not quite sure what I should do in this situation.
My mother, who has been rather unsupportive with my therapy (she doesn't like the idea that I can talk to a stranger and not her) continues to dismiss this issue as either an undue cry for attention or a matter of general unimportance; two statements I most certainly disagree with.

What should I do in my situation? I am looking for a serious answer.

Okay just relax first off. its true while youre adjusting to new meds thay can fluctuiate in thier affectivness..maybe they need to raise the dosage or combine it with something else. just tell your doctor eveything youre experiencing and he will work with you to find a solution..sometimes fining the right medicine cocktail takes a long time..be patient.

Well most importantly its good you are planning to see your Doctor, what he or she says should hopefully be the best information you can get.

If you wanted to hear my little expierence which sounds simular to yours with drugs for Depression Anxiety (I was taking Welbutrin) I had a slump after taking my perscription for about 3 weeks where it did not seem to work. However I kept taking my perscription as I was told too and after 6 weeks I started to feel clamer like I had when I first started taking Welbutrin. My Doctor said that the first several weeks your body will change in how receptive and nonreceptive you are to the medication, but over time your body will adjust and then drug will work to its fullest.

But listen to what your Doctor says overall.

As for the personal advice I'm sorry your mother is not so supportive, but if you can find anyone else even online just to talk you that might help you out. Focus on what postive things you can do even if it hard to do so. You owe it to yourself.

well, I know that the best thing is to keep taking the medicine. (I'n on Prozac 20mg.) but I know its not the medication thats making me feel this way. I don't know, really. They sent me for councelling at my local hospital's community mental health clinic. I've gone twice and each time they keep digging up all the painful stuff... I still haven't really felt the same since my last one Thursday. I don't know if this will have any effect on what the medication will do but...I know when I had tried a positive outlook, i was much happier. now its hard to even do that.

Well I hope having the places to go that are not your home or immedaite family are in the long run good. Having more then one place to go should be better in theory.... sweatdrop

Good luck!

Talk to your doctor about treatment, rather than your mother. If your doctor suggests something more you can do (like therapy), then you can ask your doctor for help describing the treatment plan, and why it is beneficial, to your mother.

If you're feeling suicidal, or if your depression is getting debilitating, call your doctor and say you need an emergency meeting. Don't wait for your next appointment if you can't wait!

This is my emergency meeting...in my city, doctors are hard to come by, especially when they're even remotely specialized. I'm hanging in here...I'm sorry if I sound...annoying. Maybe talking to you guys even about this will help for the meanwhile... I have most recently tried to take a more independant step when it comes to medical concerns.
There's a good thing. independence smile

My mother is the same way....It happens sometimes though.

I would definitely bring this up with your doctor. It seems that my doctor just doesn't like listening to me saying, "It's not working." and just keeps upping the meds. It's getting annoying.
So, talk to your doctor as soon as you need to.
