Who's read/seen Hellsing? ^^ It's definatly one of my favorites, featuring a dark storyline and the ultimate in badass anime vampires: Alucard.
Pre-emptive statement: Whatever anime vampire you're going to name, I probibly won't have seen the anime, so I won't know for sure who's tougher. Though I'm betting Alucard. Also, if the vampire in question is anybody from Trinity Blood... Seen it. Alucard would win.
Those who've seen the anime, but haven't read the manga: You are MISSING OUT! If you PM me I can give you a sight that has the manga scanned and translated. You can also search for one of the three OVA's, which follow the storyline of the manga.

I don't know, I don't think the anime was that bad. At the time the anime was created there were only 2 manga volumes out and Kohta Hirano was taking his sweet time updating (1 year per 1 volume) so they had to fill it in somehow.
But yes, it does lack a lot...
